The Pens themselves effectively pushed their collective PANIC button when they had a players-only meeting after the loss to the Bruins the other night.
People have shied away from throwing HCMT to the wolves.
It's looking more and more like it's an issue amongst the Pens themselves.
We'd make stuff up about what we think it might be, but we have no idea.
But, Therrien's fault or not, when your owner is spending to the cap, you're defending ECF champions, and you have two of the top talents in the league leading the charge, missing the playoffs isn't an option.

We have slowly been conjuring up an assessment of Therrien, and we think that he is a great motivational coach for a young team, but he may not be the guy when it comes to working with and utilizing a number of world-class players.
If you don't agree with that, then, hey, this is a blog.
If the Pens rattle off 22 straight wins, we'll say Therrien is a beast. So whatev.

Apparently Alex Ovechkin chews tobacco.
It first came to light back in October in a magazine article somewhere.
Who cares?
At least he doesn't chew when he's actually on the rink, as opposed to professional baseball players.
But Capitals blogs and PUCK DADDY are up in arms about a recent MAXIM article on Ovechkin that portrayed him in a "negative" light.
Here's a snippet of it:

When we initially saw this, we thought the Caps fans were overreacting.
But the mention of the chewing tobacco isn't what's pissing them off.
It's the overall tone of the article that has even the Capitals organization itself pretty upset.
Here's a SCAN of the second part of the article.
If Caps fans knew how to use computers, we'd have the first half of the article.
Whatever the gripe, our thought on this is that the people around Ovechkin don't care at all about how he comes off to the public. People want this guy to be the face of the NHL? Come on.

We can take other teams' fans' word when they say Crosby is overmarketed by the NHL.
We're used to seeing Crosby 24/7, so seeing him in two consecutive commercials during the Winter Classic doesn't make us flinch.
So we can accept when fans cry about Crosby being the face of the NHL.
There's been growing a circle jerk surrounding the idea of Ovechkin deserving to be the face of the NHL.
Look at those two pictures above.
If you're trying to market your game to casual and/or non-fans, use the clean-cut
Case closed.
We've always said Ovechkin is a douche.
Making a magazine journalist sit in the backseat when they're doing an interview pretty much cements that.

Winter Classic looked pretty sharp on TV.
We understand the mystique of Wrigley Field, but the NHL can't do another game in a baseball stadium that seats 42,000.
Seeing the Big House in Ann Arbor filled to capacity for a Red Wings game would leave a more lasting impression on a casual fan flipping through the channels.
Ann Arbor's less than a hour from Detroit. What a mistake.
Finally, if the NHL doesn't have at least one Canadian team in the Classic next year, they really have no clue about this "going back to the roots of hockey" stuff.

Free sliders and health care for everyone if the Pens win!
Also I posted this in the last thread at (according to the timestamp) the exact instant this went up:
______________________________
Huet blows.
My thoughts exactly. I figured Chicago was in trouble when I saw he was starting. Just had that feeling he was going to choke.
True story: When the 5th goal went in I thought "Flyer Hater will have something to say about Huet."
CBlog: You can never escape it.
Natural hat trick. Feel it.
Maybe I can understand Caps fans being upset at their mega-star being portrayed as a douche in that article...well, hell, I lied. He didn't let the writer enter his house (just left the guy out there until he was ready), made the guy sit in the backseat of the car, and generally acted like an ass as far as I can tell (there's more douchebaggery in the article). The journalist was just writing what he saw. Deal with it, Caps kids.
Finish your drink Sid! It's one hour til game time!
There's a difference between being portrayed as a dick and being a dick. Ovechkin is a dick. The article doesn't put a spin on anything. Him and his Russian d-bag agent ruined AO's image themselves. What a tool.
Alex Ovechkin chews hamsters. I will pound his ass. Fuckragdick.
wow kathy griffin with a zinger. big night, lets hope that players only meeting is enough to overcome the sabutouge
Ovechkin's a caveman! He still makes me laugh though.
Crosby's a born poster boy. At least he has the skills to back it up. People just like to complain about silly things. Then again, I think that's what blogging is mostly about eh?
I was sad no goalie playing wore a tuque over their mask on the ice. Only the guys on the bench. Lame. Skydome would be cool next year.
Happy New Year!
Ovechkin's a dick?
In other news, I think that the Pens should draw a lesson from the way my favorite college football team, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, won their bowl game today. It wasn't pretty. They allowed 3 UGLY turnovers that Clemson turned into touchdowns. Twice they had first-and-goal situations where they couldn't move the damn ball and settled for a field goal. None of that mattered-the kids showed some heart, kept pushing and never gave up. The play may have been ugly but they didn't care, as long as it got the job done. A play near the end of the game summed the whole thing up to me...Clemson's quarterback (Cullen Harper) dropped back to pass, and Nebraska's corner Eric Hagg (bless that kid!) squeaked around Clemson's O-line and started harassing him. Harper kept dropping back, and Hagg got a hold of him enough to keep him too off-balance to throw but couldn't take him down. Hagg gave up a few inches and at least 20 pounds to Harper and Harper managed to almost shake him off, but Hagg was able to hold onto Harper's ankle. Hagg wouldn't let go and kept pulling and twisting until he managed to take Harper down for a 16-yard loss. That basically saved the game for Nebraska. End result: their first January bowl game win in 9 years.
Sorry that was so long-winded, but my point is this: I want to see the Pens scrap things out more, and I want to see everyone showing heart (not just some of the players). Who cares if the goal is pretty, a dirty goal counts just the same as a highlight reel special. I want to know that everyone on the team gives a damn. I'm holding more judgement until I see what tonight's game holds and if the closed-doors meeting actually produces something.
Another note from the Gator Bowl...Nebraska's 2nd half offensive "explosion" started with a 17-yard reception by Nate Swift. Swift's number? 87. I choose to see that as a positive sign. :)
Nice post.
Just one comment about Canadian teams in the winter classic - The winter classic is an NHL outreach to nonfans, trying to prove that there's more to outdoor sports in the winter than football. The main target audience of this event is the indifferent NBA/NFL/MLB crowd, who don't have any Canadian teams in their leagues (Jays/Raptors aside) and can't tell Ottawa from Baghdad. So the first year they marketed it with Crosby, and the second year they went with a baseball theme (btw, who gives a fuck who sang "take me out to the ball game" as a kid before going to play in the NHL? NBC went a little overboard with that IMHO).
I think the NHL will keep pumshing the classic hard in the U.S. market until this thing reaches the mainstream (i.e. sportscenter main headline), so chances we'll see an all-Canadian matchup are slim.
AO is a fuckface. If Russia is soo much better than why doesn't he move back there.
go pens.
After watching the Winter Classic I really thought this year's was better than last in terms of the refinement of the venue. They really incorporated the history of Wrigley into the game. Pitching mound, home plate, brick wall design on the outside of the ring, ivy on the walls. Even the overhead shots showed everything was much cleaner than last year. The game itself was also better in terms of speed and goal scoring. Of course you can thank Huey was starting. God he sucks. But on the flip side, the game could have had a lot more people attend if it was in a bigger venue. Also they mentioned open skating for $10 will happen tomorrow in Wrigley. If you are a Chicago fan, how solid would that be?
But the Winter Classic was another winner this year. That is really good for the league.
GO PENS!
btw..
did anyone else hear Mike Patrick say that Georgia was pulling a Plaxico - they keep shooting themselves!
awesome.
Caps fans must live in a bubble if they are angry about this OV interview. Truth hurts...
Vote Fleury into the All Star game. That kind of confidence boost is exactly what he needs. Fleury campaign starts NOW.
I predict a monster game from Crosby. Pens win 5-2.
This years Classic blew, IMO.
After attending both, I can admit that this one sucked. Sure it was great it was in Wrigley but that's about it.
Now it's off to a bar downtown that's Penguins fan friendly. Woooooooo!
PS.
Anyone who has not had the chance to skate on the Winter Classic rink that our own Penguins played on, head on up to New York..
Photoshop city with Ovechkin...
This should be fun...
AO is a rapist. I have known this since I first laid eyes on him. Man is a fucking psychopath. Joke human being.
Errey said that the Pens need a "Tim Wallace--a WILLIAM WALLACE--attitude" to win tonight. Think he's paying attention to tPB photoshops?
damn, I'm going to have to find my ovechkin chops.
also, if the slump doesn't turn around, I think Shero might rumble out of winter hibernation early
Price is up on Fleury by 3000 votes. Lets pick it up and not let the Habs have 4 starters int the game.
What time tomorrow does the voting close.
BILLY MAYS!!!!
Ive said it before, Staal, Eaton, Boucher for Rick Nash. Eaton and Boucher will give us the cap room for his 5.4mil contract.Sid needs a winger and here it is.
In Soviet Russia, traffic light focks you.
Seriously, though, Russians' idea of "high fashion" is more than a little suspect. Anyone else remember that picture of him and another hockey player (Markov?) with two skanks? Ovechkin was wearing jeans with tons of holes in them. It looked like he borrowed them from the lead singer of Def Leppard back in 1988. If that's high fashion, I'll pass.
Pens in OT tonight. 4-3.
@ dyingalive
totally with you on that shit
and since when does fashion make someone beautiful? or did I miss some memo?
nash is a UFA after this year though... I'd rather wait and try and get him to sign in the offseason than give up staal (who will at least be an RFA).
also, he gets bit by the injury bug pretty often, if I remember correctly.
I hope someone knocks the dicks out of Lucic's mouth tonight.
Im pretty sure Nash is signed till after next season at 5.4mil which is pretty good and he can serve as a power forward and provide major offense.
Duncan Keith played a bad game today as well for Chicago, aside from scoring a meaningless goal at the end of the game.
Huet was bad. How did Rafalski score five-hole on him?!
Tim Wallace didn't back down on Tuesday. Don't back down tonight.
Let's Go Pens.
I hope someone knocks Lucic's dick out of his moms mouth.
Forget about the fact that OV chews. Seriously, who cares about that. The main point of the article is Ovechkins a douchebag. People are upset that the anti-crosby is a douche while Crosby is a class act. They want to love OV and hate Crosby, but Crosby's like the cute little puppy that even after he eats one of your shoes you still love him. OV is like the zombie that tries to eat you're brain. (I was watching Dawn of the Dead on Starz before the game came on.)
Douche.
Go Pens.
you're right, he's signed through next season.
hmmm, now its tempting
kstewy: best. comparison. ever.
hahaha
Kathy Griffin would kick A.O's ass and his business agent.
--
Nash, habbabubba.
anthem singer = jokette
Still my favorite Crosby commercial.
Perfect illustration of what that commercial obviously exaggerates. Or is it really that much of an exaggeration?
I predict a shootout... it usually happens with the B's.
What GM in their right mind would trade Rick Nash for Staal, a so-so center with decent defense and sputtering offense, Eaton, a joke of a player so far this season, and Boucher, a washed up defensemen. Not to mention only Eaton is still under contract for next season.
You people seem to forget that the rest of the league aren't the Pens farm clubs.
Sure, we could add enough picks in until they agreed, but would it even be worth it then? Me thinks not.
It's times like this that we bring out Declan and the bagpipes.
And THATS what happens when you shoot with bodies in front.
Dustin Jeffrey. Two first names never looked so good.
WHOO!
Dustin Jeffery!
2 first names = 1 goal!
JEFFREY
Tally up one more minus for Mr. Staal.
So I'm out of town and I'm stuck watching the Boston feed. Anyone who thinks that Steiggy and Errey are homers have no idea.
Thus far, apparently, Boston has already made two plays that are worthy of a highlight reel (the goal and the hit on Fedotenko) and I've found out that the Bruins resiliency is second to NONE.
thoughts,
pens definitely looking more committed to playing with effort.
sabou looked godawful on that goal.
staal with a pisspoor effort at a forecheck and backcheck on that goal.
looking decent so far. need a W
that was a worthwhile comment, why the delete?
Nash for Staal, Boucher and Eaton.
Riiiiiiight.
Well, let's assume that Shero and Jackets GM Scott Howser agree to the deal, so Howser goes to Jackets owner John McConnell for approval on it. McConnell looks it over, calmly walks back down the hall to Howser's office, closes the door and proceeds to...well...do something kinda like this.
PittHockey...cleaned it up a little.
oh yes, much better.
FUCK
WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT
uuuuugh
motherfuck. and fuck these homer announcers.
thanks, goligoski.
stupid penalties will fuck you everytime.
wow, gogo almost gave em another one.
im liking the effort. but christ, when this team does something stupid like that, it always ends up in the net. its like that PP last game, a great opportunity which led to a stupid ass giveaway and a shortie to set a losing tone for the rest of the.
Boston may have a kick ass team, but their fans suck ass. They are dead, no clapping, no standing during the goals, nothing but an occasional
woooooo.
2 on 3 and we take a penalty? WTF
another PowerPlay for the Bruins. awesome
akus: that's because the real fans are way up high while the bandwagon fans only show up to half the games, if even
at least sabu is staying awake
Continuing to take stupid penalties is a great idea, especially considering how well the PK has been doing lately.
And the Boston homers just referred to the Pens as "fragile," if I heard correctly. Retards.
look at all the movement of this Bruins PP. This is why they have a great PP and why the Pens PP is a joke
is yeo still in charge of the pp?
he should be taking notes.
@ akus - Boston fans are total animals. Didn't they beat a Habs fan to within an inch of his life within the last season or two? I swear I remember reading something about that.
oh please dont be a delay
yeo is a joke.
he was a joke last year, this year is even worse.
a yeoke if you wil...
zing!
hit up high
ward is a bitch. he charged fedotenko now hitting satan up high
Milan Lucic looks cro-magnon.
i like that we're actually shooting and going for rebounds instead of fancy pants passes that get broken up.
just need to get a mix of the two...
oh hey a PowerPlay opportunity the Pens can waste!
COME ON, SCORE HERE. END OF THE PERIOD. GIANT OPPORTUNITY
this PP couldnt enter the zone to save their lives. look how easily the Bruins entered the Pens zone on the PP, it was unbelievable
thats fine! i like that play. shoot and go to the net
The Boston announcers are talking about how the Bruins are lining up at the blue line and forcing the Pens to dump it in.
NO! Surely not a team coached by Claude Julien!
at least that PP didnt look god awful pitiful for a change.
ok, that pp looked good.
a good period, minus a weak goal given up by sabou and goligoski's stupid ass penalty
The way the Boston announcers are talking you would think David Krejci was a synonym for Wayne Gretzky.
is one of their announcers name Brick? cause that would explain the retarded comments
krejci's interviews are like the czech version of denis lemieux
I, Potash with the D-Jeff interview...nice!
two first names = hell yeah
is it too much to ask to maybe, just maybe, get someone in front of the net to get a damn rebound
just sayin
Dying alive = Clutch city in this thread so far. What a performance.
The Pens look like they're running a Chinese fire drill or auditioning for a Keystone Kops short in their own zone. Just frantic skating from point to point without any real rhyme or reason.
I love Steiggy and Errey to death, but if you listen to them, they might as well suspend the rest of the season and give the Cup to Boston right now.
Playing a team like the B's...really exposes the Pens lack of team speed [Sykie, Staal, Eaton, Gill, Scuds]
plus, any hint of an offensive + defensive zone 'strategy' would be nice to see once in awhile...instead of the Shinny System that appears to be in place 90% of the time.
It's not a coincidence that i've been drinking heavily lately while the Pens are playing like this.
they're playing better than the last game
The Pens look like they're running a Chinese fire drill or auditioning for a Keystone Kops short in their own zone. Just frantic skating from point to point without any real rhyme or reason.
I was thinking they looked like Team Malkamaniacs for some reason.
:)
Commit to the Raybin
Another thing that's been bothering me lately: The lack of sustained offensive pressure. The Pens have been getting some good scoring chances, but it's just "one and done," if you follow me. After the save or the deflection or whatever, the other team scoops it up and away they go back up ice. No forcing the other goaltender to make repeated saves.
That last shift of the period was heartening to see because there was sustained sequence in the offensive zone. Keep that up and things will get better fast.
The retard comments are probably coming from the announcer who has only played soccer in his life. I'm serious.
dying alive, when you watch the boston guys it makes you wonder if they've ever watched a hockey game before.
every play a bruin makes is the MOST AMAZING PLAY I'VE EVER SEEN!
Every punch they throw is the hardest, every goal they score is the prettiest and every check they throw is the biggest. He's probably the most annoying guy I've heard in a while.
those most routine plays are highlight reel material for that guy
Word of the hour:
"yeoke"
pops, you make me laugh.
--
Oh maybe Kathy Griffin was talkin to a Boston fan.... or a Rangers, Caps fan, very good possibilty it was a Flyers fan.
--
Satan off Sid's line. Hmm, it had me thinkin until i seen 81 out on the PP.
As much love as Gogo gets here,i had read a few times he needs to work on his D. I would have to agree on that, but right now we just gotta suck it up. I am sure he is frustrated, remember, he is just a kid.
they're feeding the bruins bandwagon as the pats bandwagon just lost its wheels for the first time in awhile
Just throwing this out there...
1. Is Ric Flair announcing goals for the Bruins? What's with the "woooooo" after every goal call?
2. Every time I watch Dany Sabourin play goal, I thank God Craig Patrick traded up for Fleury.
3. We're almost 40 games into the season and there are too many times where Satan looks like he just started playing alongside some of these guys like Tuesday. Reminds me of the 2005-06 version of Palffy.
4. Tanguay out six weeks for the Habs. Ouch.
5. Gaborik is still out with a groin injury. Tell me again why any general manager with half a brain would give up what Minnesota wants for this guy?
6. The only thing less potent that the Pens powerplay is Pitt football's offense.
7. Come on...you laughed about it. Nice to see the powerplay starting to show some teeth, though.
nice, they're jobbing millbury's sweater on nesn. hahaha
Hahahhahahaha, I love you Doc Turkleton. I feel I must stress that.
I've completely forgotten about the fantasy hockey. Life's been crazy lately. I just thought about it a day or so ago. But now I'll be moving to a new place, so free time will be at even more of a premium.
I was referring to Jack Edwards, the shitty announcer. At least there's Pens fans in my old seats behind the bench.
I'm pretty sure its a ric flair clip, and the announcer does it too. And they've been using it for the last 4 years I've been in boston, so it's not new.
As usual, stoosh is on target.
Oh I also wanted to give a nod to you and kstewy for dealing with the "Nash for Staal, Boucher and Eaton" idiocy. Because I was starting to get irked.
Who comes up with this shit?
If the Blue Jackets would make Don Waddell GM and keep him permanently high on quaaludes....even then, he would laugh anyone calling him with such a proposal off the phone.
yea, compare records of new years day with tbe bruins playing 40+ games to the pens 8. real fucking reporting there
oh, bruins are 24-15-x on new year's day, while the penguins are 3-5-0.
might as well pack it in.
damn, bruins announcers just ended any chance we had of winning. shit.
Vote for the penguins for the ASG. Voting ends tomorrow! Fleury is almost in the lead! VOTE VOTE VOTE
I've been waiting for the bruins to get this good for 4 years, but now that I have to deal with bandwagon boston fans, I hope the salary cap tears this team apart in the offseason.
my ASG ballot is in the best shape of its life.
@ Raybin -
I think the lack of second and third chances comes from the lack of a presence on the boards, which goes to part of this team's problems when it comes to the work ethic. I'm not sure how many guys are capable of playing on the boards because I don't know how many of them are really willing to take some of hits necessary to be a presence down there.
It's another area where I don't think the contributions of guys like Malone, Roberts, Ruutu, even Laraque aren't being adequately replaced. With Therrien's system being predicated on that cycle, puck possession on the boards is a big thing, and we're not seeing enough of it this year.
holy fuck, satan, HIT HIM! damn.
haha malkin controls the puck for a minute, the second fedo touches it, he loses it. i found that funny
Seriously Raybin, its bad when Don Wadell wouldn't even make the trades these people are coming up with. People are getting really annoying on here. And IMO, the last thing we need on this team is another ego, we'd have to open the roof of the Igloo to make room for Nash/Gaborik/Kovalchuck.
there is nothing more frustrating than having all hte time in the world to shoot from the blue line and missing the net by a country mile
consol arena has room for another ego
@ Pitthockey - And this Bruins douche was quick to point out that the Bruins have won like 24 games on New Year's Day compared to the paltry THREE won by the Pens. Forget that the Pens have only played eight NYD games ever and the Bruins have played at least five times that.
The Bruins have an all-you-can eat section. Hm. I seem to recall another professional sports team resorting to such measures to put asses in the seats. If only I could remember who it was....
pens are still in this game, but they need to play more like they did in the first.
haha, nice catch with that.
celtics had an all you can eat section 3 years ago, which I sat in for my first and only nba game. talk about a sport with egos.
Claude Julien is the BEST TEACHING COACH EVER!!1! according to nesn.
*puck misses net by six miles*
"Yelle JUST missing the net off of the centering feed!"
why pass that puck, how is that a better shooting angle than what sykora had. BE MORE SELFISH
that was a good sustained effort, just need a bounce here or there.
great shift!
someone needs to bite the bullet and just sit in the middle.
satan gets his shot deflected. i swear to god, that happens to him more than any hockey player i have ever seen. im not just saying that, just watch him for a game, he'll have 5 shots, 4 of which will be deflected out of play. then you'll kill yourself to put yourself out of your misery.
This just in: anyone in a Bruins sweater can walk on water and cure cancer.
shit.
no, elmo, nooooooooooooooooooo
awesome. instead of shooting, a pass which gets skated up the pens throat and into the net. where have i seen that before?
FUCKING LAST GAME
NEED a pp goal here. please?
a penalty which the pens wont take advantage of.
goddamn it. this is so frustrating. im done commenting. im jsut going to watch and then drink myself to death.
I can't believe that PA announcer actually goes "woo!" after every goal. How embarrassing.
I'd like to say we're snakebitten on the powerplay, but I don't even think that term does it justice.
Even with no Gonchar, there is really no good excuse for the PP to be this bad.
if we don't kill this, I'm joining pops in the alcohol drowning.
this is a fucking joke.
something like 1PPG for malkin/sid all season!?
how is that not reason enough to do something drastic with the people that are responsible for this PP?
gronk, if there were ever a time for a shortie, how about now?
pp = Yeoke
5 on 3
go fuck yourself, san diego
Rob Scuderi for president.
Steigy says something like, "Krejci was picked 63rd overall in the '04 draft. Bruins have a knack for finding guys way down in the lower areas of the draft."
That might have been the first time I've ever heard of a second-round pick being referred to as pick in the lower areas of the draft.
Jordan Staal couldn't hit a fucking soccer net from the slot right now.
the nhl should create an award for missing the net, because staal would be in the running for it
when did Fata grow about a foot, put on a #11 jersey and lace 'em up for the Pens?
hip hip hooray for probably going 0-for yet again tonight.
goddamn it. even the bitching is getting boring.
I think Malkin would be high in the missing the net race as well, especially with his play of late.
Max Talbot is a bordering on being a fucking liability to the team right now. I'd almost go so far as to say that anyone who argues to the contrary is just mesmerized by his personality.
If his foot is still hurt, he needs to swallow his goddamn pride and go on IR until it heals fully.
if this home & home is a test for the penguins, i would describe it like this:
they showed up to the exam, but after that, they didn't even put the name on the test...
but then again, malkin is the leading nhl scorer while staal is... lets see... can't find him.
but staal's also only 7 points behind his totals from last season, so he's at least improving. I think.
I think it's time for Shero to pull a New Year's blockbuster trade. Nash would be good.Hell, anything to shake things up right now.
pops, that sounds like my spanish exam from a month ago
@PittHockey
YOU GET POINTS FOR PUTTING YOUR NAME ON THE TEST!!!!
DAMMIT!
haha. its cool. i took 5 years, dont know a lick and yet somehow i got all A's in those classes. i blame grade inflation for my lack of spanish knowledge
they showed up to the exam, but after that, they didn't even put the name on the test...
ANNNND...what's wrong with that?
Okay, folks, here it is:
While just the thought of a player the caliber of Rick Nash or Ilya Kovalchuk on this team is enough to make me sneak off to the closet for a quick stroke session...
It isn't going to happen. It will never happen. EVER.
The Nash idea is so self-evidently stupid, I can't imagine anyone would even bring it up as a joke.
Columbus is just not going to trade away their best player, their captain and their only real marketable draw for anyone short of Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin. Period.
Kovalchuk is dying alive in Atlanta to be sure, but take a look at the Pens' roster and salaries and tell me who the Pens can reasonably deal to Atlanta AND clear up 7.5 million dollars of cap room.
Plus, Shero ate Waddell for lunch last year at the trade deadline and I doubt he'd be so willing to be taken advantage of again, especially since Kovalchuk is signed through 2009-2010. Atlanta was willing to let Hossa and Dupuis go because they were UFAs anyway on July 1.
Do the Pens need a scoring winger the caliber of Nash or Kovy? Yes. Will they get it? Hope so. Will it be either one of them? NO. So deal.
in the last month, the old hockey saying has been ringing in my head
if you finish a plus on special teams, you'll win way more games than you'll lose.
if you finish a minus, you'll lose a ton.
i would honestly be more than happy with a dude like wojtek wolski from colorado. him and crosby would light it up
Unless they're getting Malkin, Crosby or Fleury back in the deal, Columbus has absolutely zero incentive to trade Rick Nash.
Columbus was in contention last year until the last two weeks of the season. They're a point out of the 8th playoff spot right now despite losing Derrick Brassard for the year.
Rick Nash is the face of their franchise. They've drafted and developed well, and many of those younger players - Brassard, Leclaire, Voracek - are already beginning to contribute. They also have a gamebreaker on his way to the NHL in Nikita Filatov. They're the team most poised to be the next Chicago/Pittsburgh success story that built through the draft.
It remains to be seen if they can stay there in light of Brassard's injury, but even if they don't make it this year, they're likely a playoff team next year. They're not in any sort of pending cap hell, so that only bolsters their position.
Trading Rick Nash would be a monumental mistake for them unless they were getting Malkin, Crosby or Fleury back.
great shift, but yet again, no goal. and the bruins will just march down on a break and score. grrrrrr
great. another stupid penalty when they have alll the momentum. and how that wasnt interference i dont know

He's been one of the only positives as of late. Great play.
@Raybin... All spot on points. And you are probably right. But did you ever think at this time last year the Pens would ever land Hossa? Let Shero work his majic and we'll just see what happens.
Zomg, that was the GREATEST HIT IN THE NHL EVARRRR!

Interesting call.
Even the Boston announcers thought it was going to be a slashing call on Axelson.
BUAHAHHAHAHA

Wow, that dive by Fernandez reminded me of Osgood in the SCF.
goddamn it, its such a waste of 2 minutes and momentum
Good PK, would've been sweet to get that shortie though.

Come on, got to get something on the PP. Tenk needs to be on the #1 unit, he's got the jump today. Get Malkin off the point and put Gogo and Whit out there.
Ha, no kidding. You could see that hook from outer space.
ok. a PP at a very key time in teh game. last game, it was an utter failure. have things changed in 09?
this is basically the game
frontrunning fans, just like every other franchise in boston. it's so sickening. the c's had NOBODY in their arenas, then they got good, and bam everyone shows up, pathetic sports town boston is.
Time for the PP to brew up a cup of sweet redemption flavored tea.
DO IT.
Don't want to sound like an idiot, but we need shots. And on NET!
