Is it just us or has Buffalo slowly moved up the chain of rivals for the Pens?
Ever since the Winter Classic, we have hated Buffalo fans almost as much as any other fan base.
Not to mention we cannot stand Lindy Ruff or any of the Sabres players.
A story we have not talked about enough is the Ryan Miller/F-YOU story.
The last time the Pens and Sabres played, goalie Ryan Miller said a ref told him to go F himself. [Buffalo News].
It was just about the referee last night, a brief conversation I had with the ref that was a little surprising to me," Miller said. "He told me to "go [bleep] myself' because I was just asking a question. I was just kind of joking around [to Ruff], saying, "Maybe that kind of started what got the bench minor going.'
"To be honest, I was respectful. I asked him a question and he told me maybe I should "go [bleep] myself."

This might be the biggest non-story of all time. We're the only ones right, therefore we are wrong, apparently, as the rest of the hockey internet world wants Crosby to be punished. Basically, this is what happens when Crosby, who has been churning out cliches and run-of-the-mill quotes since he was 8 while being the face of Canadian hockey and essentially Reebok nowadays, goes a little bit off the beaten path.
Nobody's made a joke about that's as close Crosby will ever get to a Cup?
Nobody's made a joke about Puck Daddy being an expert at going after a man's balls?
If it wasn't for Puck Daddy, we wouldn't have even known about this thing turning into some kind of scandal.
To bring this all to a close, Crosby started that whole thing by throwing a Thrasher into Orpik's knee; a situation that had torn ACL written all over it.
We still have no clue why Bing punched the dude in the balls.
And if you don't like Daddy's closing sentence in his post about this, God help you.

I was waiting for some scandal to break out over this. Please, the guy punched a guy in the balls with his gloves on, and did so from behind. I don't think you're going to cause much damage there, it's not like he hit him hard in the balls with his stick. In my view, if goalies can get away with something that probably hurts more, this incident with Crosby is a joke.

watching the sid vid, i kind of feel that maybe a 10 minute, or maybe even a game misconduct should have been in order, but that's it. any suspension or fine would have been waaay overboard. I can see where the whiners and dicks are getting their point of view from, but really i think their main sticking point is that it was Sidney Crosby. Sure, if another player does that, maybe he gets a stiffer penalty. maybe not. But if said player got a 2 minute roughing call, does everyone make a big shitting deal about it? i doubt it.
but like Staff said, who cares? its over and done with, and nothing came of it, so what's the use of rehashing and rehashing? I guess its a slow day over at Puck Daddy(although i did enjoy the interview he posted with Kozlov).

Versus has the deal through the 2010-11 season.
There was some speculation last year, though, that ESPN was in the process of buying Versus out, assimilating it into its family of networks (in essence, creating ESPN3) and that it would also assume the existing NHL contract. Not sure how true those rumors were or how feasible such a situation is.
To be honest, there's no room on primetime on any of the ESPN networks now, with the possible exception of ESPN Classic. It could be possible that ESPN buys out the remaining Versus deal and incorporates it as a regular-carried feature on ESPN Classic, but I'm not sure of the logistics of that.

@stoosh- I don't pretend to be an expert on this by any means, but in my tv class this past semester, we were learning about the impending change to digital tv and what it would mean for networks. Some networks could not have (blank)1-10. So I guess its feasable for espn 3 to carry nhl. But I have no idea about contracts and such, but I would love to see hocley back on espn.

I don't expect every member of the hockey media to bow at Crosby's altar, but I agree with the staff...this is a huge non-issue and comparing it to Avery is even more ridiculous. Avery has a long history of ridiculous on and off-ice incidents to his name that have cast the league in a negative light. He met with Bettman before this season started in light of all the crap he stirred up with Brodeur and the Devils in the playoffs and was told to tone his act down. He didn't. That's why he was suspended.
I understand why some of the Crosby detractors get worked up over it. It's the same reason fans accuse the Maple Leafs of getting all the calls when they play on HNIC. It's the same reason I used to hate Michael Jordan (back when I gave a damn about the NBA, I was a Knicks fan in the Jordan era).
But let it go, for crying out loud.

Although I know not everybody is going to be a Pens fan or a Crosby fan, sometimes he tends to fall into that category of making a non-story into breaking news (i.e. this story and the "see you next game" comment, which he backpedaled quicker than Carmelo Anthony after a suckerpunch at MSG.) So Sid punched some player in the bag. Yeah, it happened, but I'd be willing to bet that this isn't the first time this has happened this season.
