Matt - Atlanta attendance is always terrible, the night i went (vs Hurricanes few fridays ago) there werent but 3-4k asses in the seats.
I wore OV jersey and got boo'ed immediatley entering (My friend stole my Crosby jersey during the ride up so he wore it, and i didnt want to go to a game not repping a jersey, so i wore an OV jersey, dont sue me for fan treason, he stole it :/)

Haha, if anything i wore my OV jersey because it's Atlanta, and they hate the Caps, i wanted to see the recation, and to pick a few fights (Alcohol was not a factor). it's fun to gauge reactions. Shame nobody wanted to say anything else besides the few boos i got coming in.

Your OV jersey reaction is the same reaction I'd get a few years back wearing a Pens jersey to a Caps game. A few people would give me a lukewarm boo, but nobody would say much because the Caps were trash.
Now the Caps fans are bold--they'll always go with the "Crosby sucks." I guess they feel with a playoff season behind them, they can try to act like Philly.

Sorry--in the Baltimore/DC area, we think of No. Va. as Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax & the Dulles Corridor. Anything past Leesburg is pretty much considered lower West Virginia.
If you're in Fairfax, jump on the Vienna Metro and take it to Clarendon. There's a sports bar called Summers about a block away from the Metro stop, and I seem to remember them having Center Ice.
So the blog was mentioned TWICE by Mark Madden if anyone cared to know.

1. I was at a friend's house watching the game tonight, so I wasn't watching quite as closely as I normally do. But did anyone get the impression that the Pens looked off tonight? I was listening to the post-game show with Grover on the way home and quite a few callers were suggesting that they thought the Pens played a bad game. I know they took some bad penalties, but 2-for-3 on the power play and five very solid goals doesn't seem like much of a bad game to me.
2. Boston is a machine. Then again, they were playing Toronto.
3. I know it's taboo to mention them, but that was a bit of a statement game by the Wings tonight. 6-0 over the Sharks? How many Babcock/McClellan,, "master schools the pupil" jokes will there be over at Abel To Yzerman?
4. For an old Canucks fan who had his sports fan's heart broken by Messier's Rangers in 1994, I love the subtle irony of the Vancouver Canucks sticking it to the Rangers and getting Sundin. Sundin might not be what he used to, but anything that keeps him away from the Rangers is good for me.
5. Dear Boris Valabik,
Nice to see that you are just as much of a joke of a hockey player now as you were when you played junior hockey in Kitchener. You still can't skate. You still can't shoot. You still handle a puck like it's a hand grenade with the pin pulled. And you're still a 6'7" version of Sean Avery on the ice; way to pick on all the smaller guys and then tuck your tail between your legs when the heavyweight came calling. Make sure you send Bettman a Christmas card this year, because if he hadn't expanded the league to 30 teams, you'd be stealing your salary from some team in the Tier II Polish Elite League instead of stealing it from those 28 devoted fans in Atlanta.

I think part of it is the fact that I grew up with minor league hockey for the better part of eight years with the Erie Panthers. When the ECHL left town and we replaced minor pro with major junior, most of the fans didn't realize the caliber of hockey we'd be getting. I knew many of the names, but the quality of hockey was even better than I had expected to see. I've been able to watch some very good players come through Erie (either as Otters or as members of visiting teams).
The junior game is every bit as entertaining to watch because every kid plays hard every night. Every check is finished. Every fight is a knock-down, drag-out affair...not some of this scripted enforcer crap you see in the NHL.
And when the team is winning, it's awesome to see the fanbase fall in love with these kids. Tim Connolly, Brad Boyes, Carlo Colaiacovo, Chris Campoli...these kids are every bit as loved and revered in Erie as Sid, Geno and yes, even Lemieux is here.
They retired Boyes's number in Erie last season and there wasn't a dry eye in the building, including Boyes.
