Yawn, Again.

Excuse the lack of post.
We are still trying to wake up from that Minnesota game.

A lot of shit has probably happened since then, but we feel like we would have been inclined to post something if that were true.

Pens play the Thrashers tonight.

Everyone was on Kovalchuk's balls earlier this year.

Lets not forget, he is a jackoff.

Go Pens

@steve - I said the same thing. Crusher is gonna make us pay. So we must win in regulatin to prevent that.

I can remember this game, like yesterday. I was at this game, 3rd day I moved to Atlanta. Kovalchuk's a piece of garbage. The announcing is garbage. And the fans in Atlanta are garbage. I'll be there tonight, so I'll be sure to piss some people off. Maybe telling them they have a black guy as a president oughta get the job or maybe that the government is aking away their guns.
You know, after all of this...I hate this town and I don't know why I'm still here.

Crosby was pretty hateable back then.

you have to admit.

now you can only hate him because he's good.

I'm going to the game tonight. Looking forward to a decent sized Pens crowd tonight (or to be more accurate, a lack of Atlanta fans)

Madden had a pretty good interview with Colby yesterday. I don't care what anyone says, I would like to see him back once he hits UFA. I like the guy. He doesn't belong on a wing with Sid, but he's a solid third-liner.

Anyone know the deal with MAF's injury? I've seen things that say he's out possibly for a couple of weeks, and I've seen things that say he might play Saturday.

The thing that pisses me off about the Kovalass video is still going on now.
Why didn't some one go put him through the boards?!? Same way no one took Ovechkin for a ride the last time he spent 60 minutes trying to end Geno's carreer.
I know discipline is a good thing, don't take stupid penalties..but sometimes ya gots to kick some ass for your big guns.
Where the hell is the Ulf on this team? He's have put them both through the glass.

Matty said...

@ dave
I'll be at the game tonight brother, feel free to say hi and laugh at the "hockey fans" present. It should be fun.

penstone410 said...

@deathbyemu
i agree totally. course we dont want unnecessary penalties, but i agree that some assholes need slapped around if theyre going after our big guys, especially as wrecklessly as ovechkin went after geno. its about time they stand up for eachother.

Mortimer Peacock said...

Matty, son, you DO know that Atlanta is a majority black city and went overwhelmingly for our new black president, right?

I do take your point about a lot of the Thrashers' fans. Some of them come from the backwoods beyond the city limits.

Matty said...

@ Mortimer
You do know that there are enormous companies (ie: Coke, Delta, Air Tran, Georgia Pacific, Chic-fil-a, Home Depot). Those people didn't vote for Obama. Those people voted for John McCain (who won Georgia in the elctoral vote). Those are the people I work for, those are the people that drink their "cocktails" at hockey games. While trying to understand a sport they have no idea what offisdes means. These are the people who love their guns, not all of the gun lovers are back of the woods kinda people.

I think all would probably eventually be forgiven if Kovalchuk signed here. However, I don't see a way for him to fit under the salary cap, especially since if you ask a good portion of Pens fans we'll be signing Gaborik any day. Everyone keeps floating the idea of trading Whitney, but that's a pretty tough sell since Gonchar's contract is up after next season and Letang isn't producing much offensively (though he's improved tons defensively). Not to mention Whitney's contract is a bargain, it's long term, and Shero seems to consider him one of "the core." And they still want to sign Staal - which I wholeheartedly support, but regardless of whether he stays here or not, it would hardly be a salary dump to get rid of him at this point.

It would be super fun to get to hear HCMT say Kovalchuk's name all the time, though.

Stupid aside, I really want Colby back. You can bet he'll be looking for a deal from Pittsburgh. King Shero will make the right call, whether Colby returns or not.

Isn't it awesome to have this much faith in your GM?

dying alive said...

SHOOOOOOOOOOT.

There was a guy sitting behind me at the game on Tuesday who kept yelling SHOOOOOT every time the Pens touched the puck on the offensive zone, especially on the power play. You'd think that Gagne's two shorties last week would have shown him the error of that logic. I do think that the Pens need to shoot a bit more rather than make so many fancypants passes, but passing is a part of the freaking game. Of course, this is the same guy who kept yelling, "STOP BACKING UP!" at the Pens defense every time a Wild player gained the zone. Uh, these guys are professional athletes and you're a yinzer in section D eating nachos. Calm down.

CK said...

I can't wait until Erik Christensen has a turd of a game.

"OH NOES! HE'S GOING TO KILL US IN TEH SHOOTOUT!"

Face it, he's pretty much only good at one thing.

Fuck Christensen.

Morph said...

@ Dying

Yeah me and my friend were at the wild game up in section E, next to us sat the same two sad excuses for hockey fans. They were drunk by the end of the first period and yelled shoot anytime the puck even remotely crossed into the wild's zone. Thankfully they were horrible fans and left with 10 minutes to go in the third of a 1-1 tie game.

Matty said...

My Pre-Game Predictions:
1. Johan Hedberg, 4.04 GAA. Wow. He should be starting.
2. Eric Christensen will poop his own pants on every shot attempt.
3. When was the last time we saw Eric Godard in a fight? Yeah, it's been a while.
4. Colby has been quoted as saying he will try to get under Sid's skin.
5. Colby Armstrong hasn't been in a fight with Eric Godard, has he?
6. Chris Thornburn is still in Atlanta. I think you see where the Godard fighting is going...

aaron said...

@ matty

Godard v. Boulton by the middle of the second. They've danced before.

Matty said...

aaron...you're the man.
whats the over/under on how many punches boulton takes before he bites the ice?
I say 6.

Matt said...

Taking the under for that one.

Minor dilemma: friend in Baltimore invited me to see a Caps game with him next Wednesday (against the Thrashers, no less). What is proper attire/etiquette when you attend your rival's game, and they're playing a team you have absolutely no opinion of?

Probably won't wear a jersey because I hate it when Yankees fans invade Pirates/Orioles games when New York isn't even involved. But do I go with no Pens clothing at all?

Matty said...

I strongly suggest a minor article of pens clothing. shirt, hat, ect. keep away from looking like an idiot (such as those yankee fans). even my g/f points out they look stupid and she's not exactly a sports fan, to say the least.

aaron said...

Goddard's got reach, but Boults has size. I'm calling it even.

Matt said...

@matty, yeah I definitely won't be misrepresenting Penguins fans. Well, real Penguins fans at any rate.

Think I'll keep it to a t shirt (non-player tee), and politely cheer when the home team succeeds. That said, I'll be going crazy for Colby and booing Christensen. If Semin scores I will be completely silent.

Matty said...

I wouldn't cheer at all, Matt. I would just be a total asshole, call A.O. an ape all night and call the South Eastern a joke of a conference.

Matt said...

Haha, I don't think anyone in attendance would dispute me, assuming they knew they were at a hockey game at least.

By polite cheer I meant golf clap at best and not outright booing at worst. It's still the Caps, I can't get excited when they succeed.

Matty said...

Don't look now, but AO has 22 points and a +18 rating. Semin +17 and Backstrom +12. Yikes.

Hand of Godard said...

I just saw this article and for some reason it has me completely pissed off. Not only does the douchebag step on the fucking Penguin, he disrespects the tradition.

Fucker

Allison said...

@matt-
Those people really do look like morons. At the pens isles game a few weeks ago, there was a whole group of people in calgary flames jerseys. Along with pissing me off, they confused the shit outta me.

Morph said...

Speaking of out of place jerseys...did anyone else at the game Tuesday see the Dan Marino dolphins jersey?

meecrofilm said...

Damn there is a lot of 'matt' action going around right now.

Capitals can have their inflated +/- ratings playing against the WPIAL AAA, er, I mean, the Southeast division.

Matty said...

It's a Matt kind of day, meecrofilm. It's a Matt kind of day.

Hip said...

Most 18 year olds hockey players don't have to grow up in the spot light. They get that shit out of their system in the minors. Thanks to Kovalchuk for helping Sid grow up so quickly. We're the ones pointing and laughing now bitch.

As for the Jan Caps/Pens game - if Goddard/Orps and company don't actively seek to destroy Ovie every chance they get, I will be sorely disappointed in the character of this team.

Matty said...

You want to talk about out of place jersey's. What about too much jersey? This conversation reminded me of watching the ALCS. In one game (In Tampa Bay), I noticed a super ginormous douche bag sporting a Tom Brady Jersey, with a Red Sox David Ortiz jersey over it. Sitting himself right behind the Red Sox dugout. Sigh, retarded, pure retardedness.

Hip said...

Matt - the Caps are a solid team, a ton of fun to watch, and very very similar to the Pens.

If you can't bring yourself to cheer, do some serious scouting. It's only a matter of time before we meet in the playoffs.

And don't wear noticeable Pens gear. There's no point in drawing the ire. And Caps fans are reaaaaaaaly sensitive about the Pens (trust me, I know).

Allison said...

@hip- seriously, I thought I was the only pens fan in exsistance who didn't mind that Kovalchuck point. I even might go as far as saying I kinda liked it. Or at least that I didn't see anything wrong with it.

brett said...

@Matt, Matty

I wear Pens gear to any game I go to no matter who is playing or where it's at. It's a hockey game, not a fraternity tryout.

Matty said...

@ Allison

Move to Atlanta, where I am.
Your whole perspective will change. This is the NHL, not football. Kovalchuk, does nothing for the city. Yet they love him. It's really annoying. I promise you.

Allison said...

@matty- well first of all, I'll have to pass on that invitation to the south. My summers in South Carolina tell me that I would not do well down there. No offense. But by the sound of things, you don't like it too much, so you're probably not offended.

Secondly, I admit I don't know too much about Kovalchuck. I think I've read things that lead me to dislike his personality, but the one particular pointing incident never bothered me. I try to look at it objectivly and take sid out of the picture. If he had done that to some other team's player, I woulda liked it, so I can't take exception just cause it's Sid.

jammer jagger said...

i'm going to the steeler game tonight.

i'm wearing my MAF jersey to show all those yinzers how ridiculous it is to wear their steeler jersey's to pens games.

Hip said...

Jammer - way to solve the problem. Lead by example buddy.

Alison - yeah, I have plenty of other reasons for hating Kolvachuk. This isn't one of them. Tough lesson for Sid, but he's better for it.

Matty - how does the city adore him? I thought most didn't even realize there was a team!

Docciavelli said...

@ allison

I'm actually beginning to hate Red Sox fans more than Yankee fans (and I hate them both as an O's fan).

Sox fans are now ridiculously arrogant, and they've picked up the majority of bandwagon/fratboy fair-weather fans because it's "cooler" to be a BoSox fan ever since Jay-Z and Derek Jeter hit 30 years old.

Still, fuck the Yankees.

Allison said...

:)
i love yankee haters... regardless of what team they do root for.

and i don't come into too much contact with Boston fans, or else I'm pretty sure I'd hate them too.
Living bout 20 mins away from Yankee stadium = too many arogant assholes around me at any given moment.

Matty said...

He's the face of the franchise, because hes a good player. They forget about everyone and put other players up to high expectations (ie: Kari Lehtenen). Allison, it could be Kovalchuk bringing the puck down by himself versus 4 people and they stand as if something is going to happen. It's hard to explain. If you want a jersey, it's Kovalchulk. There are no Slava Kozlov jerseys or Tobias Enstrom jersey's. It's pathetic.

Pittsburghler said...

I didn't know there were any white people in Atlanta. . . .

fleuryous said...

Kovalchuk=dick.

But, who's laughing now?

YEAAAAAAAAAH, that's what I thought. haha.

And jovi...when you say trade the new guy, I sure hope you don't mean Goligoski...because that makes me laugh.

Crosby, please make Kovalchuk your bitch.

Go Pens.

Pittsburghler said...

@ Hip

Oooooh.. . . .not the ire of Caps fans!

Seriously, how can I draw the ire of that which doesn't even show up for the game?

Isn't this the same Washington D.C. that had to stop selling Caps tickets online to people from the 412?

Isn't this the same city where 30,000 Steeler fans invaded a football stadium and got so loud that the 'Skins had to run a sllent count?

Wilbon was right. Washington D.C. sports fans are a mediocre lot, at best.

Allison said...

@fleuryous
when i read that i took it to mean boucher. I could be wrong, but i dont think it was meant as goligoski

Matt said...

@docci- WOOOOOO O's FANS!

And I hate Red Sox fans, but I can never hate any fan more than Yankees fans. Remember that kid who caught the ball and it was ruled a home run? If I ever meet him I will break his kneecaps.

Lastly, I'm saving judgment on the Caps fans until I go next week. Then however they act (it IS a divisional foe, after all, even if it is the ATL) will pretty much be how I see them from now on.

Wearing a Penguins t-shirt and NO RED. Bet on it.

debrisslide said...

Wait, who was jobbing Red Sox fans? *looks out the window* All those people on Tremont Street are Red Sox fans. *shudder*

J.S. said...

I'm a Steelers fan, even if I hate on Interceptionberger every chance I get, but I'll show how much my fan status with them has slipped. I had no idea that they had a game tonight until about 2 today, when 2 people on my floor jobbed me with the oh-so-familiar question "So are you gonna have to stream tonight's game too?" LOL, bunch of a-holes! For those wondering, I won't. I actually get NFLn, but I won't be turning over until after teh Pens game is over.

No individual predictions, no team predictions, just hoping for a good game that doesn't go into OT. Think the stat I read today that half (maybe almost half) of the Pens games have gone into OT.

Allison said...
