Really good read from Pierre Lebrun at ESPN about the whole thing. [thanks to BNG]
About the now famed quote, Ted Leonsis told LeBrun;

A few weeks ago, I told Michelle: "Oh man, I should go as Malarchuk for Halloween!" She gave me a very bad look. Ha ha.
Oh man, seeing as I didn't do anything for Halloween, I didn't even realize that hockey-related costumes could have happened. My best idea, four days too late, is a Red Wings fan choking on a cock. Wooooo.
I wish I would have had time for Halloween this year. I wanted to dress up as Ashley Todd, that whackjob who carved the backwards B into her face.

He's being Clint Marlarchuk I'm pretty sure, not Zednik. His ordeal was much more ridiculous.
You'd need a Panthers jersey if you were going for Zednik. Has to be Malarchuk -- although he did forget the accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chin to complete the ensemble.

i'm biased because i'm friends with this kid, but he's totally not a dick. he can be a tool, as any hockey player can, and he can be cocky, but he's also very typically russian in how he talks.
and if it wasn't your own captain, would you still think he was a dick for saying what he did about sid, mistranslation or not?
@maali-I don't speak for everyone, but I definitely would. A dick is a dick. It would be like one of the Pens saying that Ovie isn't a special player, just a fast-skating goon who when he isn't hogging pucks, is running around trying to hurt people...Russian people....but THEY don't say that...

I wouldn't say Semin is dick because Crosby is our captain. I would say Semin is a dick because he hasn't accomplished anything in the NHL and really isn't in a position to say that Crosby is nothing special. Personally, I could care less, but he comes off sounding like a twat.

Crosby has captained his team to the Eastern Conference championship and taken them to within two wins of the Stanley Cup. He's won the Hart, the Pearson, and the Ross - all in the same season.
When Alexander Semin has done ANY of that...or for that matter, has done anything aside from getting bounced in the first round of the playoffs...maybe he'll have earned the right to job Crosby.

TBH, I will admit to also thinking of being either Richard Zednik or Malarchuk for Halloween also. Main thing that kept me from doing so was the fact that I don't own either jersey.
Semin's definitely an arrogant bastard. He could have said that about any player in the league and it would have been a dick move. Not that I don't love Sidney Crosby and think he's a phenomenal player. . .I mean, I'm a Pens fan, durrr. But he could have jobbed Dany Heatley like that and it would still sound arrogant coming from a fellow player. As fans, we say what we want, because it's not our job to be respectable and create an image for the league. Many of us take up that responsibility just because we're okay human beings. But you're in the league, you're a fucking sportsman, grow a pair and respect those other men with whom you share a common profession. Especially guys like Crosby who have been respectful of their fellow players, their fans, and the NHL as an organization. Whatev, Semin.
Point: Crosby doesn't even want to talk about it. Why? Because he's a man, that's why.

Saying that the Brodeur injury is compareable to the MAF injury is just silly all over. The Penguins only didn't suffer because Ty Conklin played out of his fucking mind. Ty Conklins do not happen every year. Beyond that, we were worried when MAF isn't even what our team is built around! New Jersey's team is built ENTIRELY around Brodeur being between the pipes.
Weekes will have to play BETER then Conklin did.
No Selanne on the ballot = epic fucking fail.
