Gambling blog.
'Cause it kills time and there's nothing else to do.

Recap of yesterday:

Stupid Thrashers cost us a perfect weekend. [thrashers411]

But the Ducks pulled through in grand fashion.

Again, special thanks to Earl Sleek of [BOC] for making that sweet-ass chart.

Kent Huskins of the Ducks almost got killed:

Our Gambling record is at:

If you count straight-up picks:

We'll be cold as ice next week.

If you fall into the trap of betting on a game just because you'll be able to watch it,
you'll soon find yourself in a bigger hole than Baby Jessica.

But we're looking at Buffalo/NJD for Monday night on VERSUS.

A lot of talk about this one.
Brodeur is out, so Kevin Weekes will get the start.
A lot of people think this means Over city.

Not so fast.

Ryan Miller leads the NHL in GAA, and the Devils are going to play hard in front of Weekes and limit scoring opportunities against a ne'er-used goalie using their defensive scheme.

It is a good test to see what Vegas is up to.

Under is 5.5

We like it straight.
$10 to win 8.

The AV's got smoked at home by the Sharks last night. Hawks are playing solidly.

Remember Joel Quenneville, head coach of the Hawks, used to coach Colorado.
Hawks city.

The other game is Columbus vs Islanders. We wouldn't touch that game with a ten foot pole.

If you are feeling really lucky, put a bunch on the Steelers.

On a side note, we found some interesting crap about the Redskins and the Election.

Since 1936 (save for 2004), the Redskins Monday night game on Election Eve has predicted the winner of the election.
If the Redskins win, the party currently in the White House (the incumbent) gets another four years.
If the Skins lose, you get the picture.

Pay no attention to the ground noise that Brendan Shanahan is coming to Pittsburgh.
We already have three rivers.
Handing a fourth river of Shanahan's tears is not something Pittsburgh can handle.

Go Pens

Write in Mario lemieux for president tomorrow. He brought us out of bankruptcy, so there is no reason he won't bring this country out of debt!

I was planning on writing in "Buries It" for state treasurer.

Sorry Pensblog, but the sabres themselves are going to score 5 goals, so as long as the debbies can get 1 by miller, I'm winning my bet.
And as far as Football goes, I think I might just start putting 5 dollars on every game to have no TD's, cus if it hits, thats 150 dollars at +3000

Who cares if Lemieux wasn't born in the states, we can fool the system, I mean who knows if Obama was even born in the states (just kidding about that last part if it offends you for some dumb reason)

Stillers will win it, because McCain sure won't. haha

WOOOOOOO Go Stillers.

The Redskins thing win is only true if you don't count the 2004 election or as it is known THE LAST FREAKING ELECTION.
I prefer to go with the stat that if the cotton candy man sells three stacks of cotton candy in the second to last Penguins home game before the election, an angel gets its wings.
PS Someone is in the best shape of their life... Mario for Supreme Court... you b est recognize Scalia
gotta go the French President is on the line.. that's right Guy LaFleur is calling...

Re: Madden's column on respected vets? I presume he's talking about Recchi, but who's the dude that undermined Therrien?

Steve Young could make an effort. Look like you care just a little.

Shanahan's tears can't hear you, they're immersing his Stanley Cup rings on his bedside table, right next to the false teeth.

I kinda hope the guy's done, but it wouldn't be the end of the world if he signed SOMEWHERE. Whatev.

Islanders and Blue Jackets scoreless after the first. Hmmmmm.

Weekes = Beast in the 1st, but he couldn't hold the fort forever. Go *cough* Slugs.

Shanahan is an 85 overall on NHL 09! Staal is an 84!! DO IT!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

kstewy16 said...

Is it just me or does the Debbies Slugs game look goofy? The camera angle seems to be lower, and they appear to be more zoomed in. Stupid jersey.
And No Edzo=Bad Versus.
Go Sabres, Go Steelers, Go Obama.

Why do the Skins have a band... Are they finally admitting they are as bad as a college team?

J.S. said...

6-0 Skins, thanks to one bad play call and Ben getting tipped.

Yes, as ignorant as it sounds, I don't care who you are voting for. I'm sure there are others here who feel the same.

Re: Madden's column on respected vets? I presume he's talking about Recchi, but who's the dude that undermined Therrien?

I've got one other name that it might be (begins with "John" and ends with "-eclair"). But judging by some comments made today by Madden on his show, it may have been Gary Roberts.

I forget exactly how the comment went and I admittedly only heard parts of the show here and there while I was at work. But I do recall Madden talking about the Shanahan rumor and just made some general comments on bringing veterans into this locker room. He basically said what he said in his column, but named Roberts directly as someone who came in as a well-respected and well-liked leader and left as a someone who had clearly worn out his welcome.

Watching the Steelers...

Michelle Tafoya just reported that Roethlisberger hurt his throwing hand. Again.

Doesn't this happen every game with him? I swear, dude would injure his throwing hand using it to open a bottle of milk.

meecrofilm said...

Ben's definitely a little melodramatic when it comes to injuries. But maybe that makes him play better, like he thinks that he's more the man because he's playing through injuries.

Or maybe I'm full of shit.

Stoosh said...

It's Byron Leftwich's world now, folks. We're all just living in it.

fleuryous said...

Byron will fire the endzone.

fleuryous said...

"Fire one" Leftwich, I like to call him. haha

Dude, I want to marry everyone on our defensive line.

And I'm not even a polygamist.

Rage said...

@stoosh-really? I woulda never guessed that about Roberts, but I can def see leclair/recchi...the pens "seem" a bit rough on the old-timers though

Just my opinion, and I realize it could definitely be wrong

Rage said...

@fleuryous-based on what you have said in the past regarding different Pens and now the Defensive Line of the Stillers, I tend to think that maybe you are indeed a polygamist...but one in denial. Seek help. lolz

This ref must be voting for McCain. Soff roughing the passer call.

fleuryous said...

I definitely agree, pops.
That was pretty...slight, if anything.

But whatever--if they see it...yadda yadda yadda.

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

Jebus God, he was a yard short. Tomlin will win his second challenge ever.

This entire officiating staff must be voting for McCain, because that one wasn't even close.

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

Hell, not only was his knee down, his elbow was down too. Horrible initial call.

Deadskins = Fail.

God, I love watching Washington choke.

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

Hey, Willie, don't run into your offensive linemen, please.

fleuryous said...

Entire Steeler D-line for Secretary of Defense.

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

Another thing I really like about the Steelers' defense is that they don't go into a prevent defense up 17 with under 5 minutes to go.

And Campbell gets sacked again, Steelers take over on downs.

Dick LeBeau should be in the Hall of Fame.

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

LeBeau for Secretary of Defense, with Hal Gill as Secretary of the Navy.

The MNF crew just put a solid burn on the DC sports scene.

fleuryous said...

Well, you know what that means...

Obama is already taking measurements for the White House basketball court. hahaha.

pops said...

MNF giving some MAJOR love to the Pens fans.

It is very true, though. The Caps games in DC are a sea of Pens fans. I just love hearing about the Penguins in primetime.

meecrofilm said...

Hah, lol @ Tomlin, "WOOOOOOOOOO"

ESPN giving primtetime props to Pens fans was awesome.

SteelPensBucs said...

It's nice to see the Steelers beat an NFC East team, for once.

That's two NHL mentions in three weeks on MNF: the Debbies were mentioned on Oct. 20, and the Pens tonight. The Verizon Center becomes the Mellon Center when the Pens are in D.C.

Shanahan was an asshole when he was with the Whalers. He demanded a trade after a season after initially being happy. Since then, it's appropriate he played for two teams I dislike (Rust Wings and Ranger$)
