hines ward > pens blog

seriously one of the best athletes to ever play in pittsburgh.

you would think TPB would get this, especially after the smiz post. hines has been fined twice for hits he was never penalized for during the game. talk about trying to make things a ballet.

is it funny to job ward? sure. but dont forget, he is a hall a future hall of fame player for Pittsburgh,
and secondary coverages fears the guy.

he is a beast.

Beav said...

Good lord, I didn't know Ward is the second coming of christ. Lynn Swann shouldn't be in the hall of fame but since he is I'm sure hines can make it as well. I love how nobody bitches when tPb jobs big ben, but god forbid anybody say anything about the greatest wide receiver to ever play the game!!!111oneoneone!

Hines Ward is the toughest man in football. He's pure passion. If there was one NFL player who could survive in the NHL, it would be him.

Ben is a beast, too.

And number 17 in the nation for Pitt?

It's a good time to be a Pittsburgh sports fan.

Jonny Van Mundegaarde said...

fleuryous, it's on Mondesishouse.com, and he got it here

beav, i'm holding out any jobbing of the staff jobbing Ben until he wins the NFL MVP this year. I already think he'll be the greatest Steelers QB by the time it's all said and done. Call me nucking futs. And I never said he was the greatest WR to ever play the game. Greatest Steelers WR of all time maybe. I don't know if any Steeler present or future will get four SB rings while playing for us, but he already has all team WR records. Not bad for a converted college quarterback in my book.

And I can imagine if Tate did one of those for Obama. There'd be ironic cries of racism, i'm sure...

This place has jobbed the following people:

- Natalee Holloway for her dumb decision making
- Dany Heatley for his driving skills
- Michael J. Fox for his inability to play Jenga and for having Parkinson's
- Anne Frank for something over the summer.

Why should Hines hold any type of immunity here? Yes he's a fan favorite, he's tough, and as long as he doesn't plan on injecting himself with anything or whacking a few people at the neck, he probably has a ticket punched for Canton. But those aren't qualifications for not being jobbed.

Even Mario has been jobbed at least once on here.

Joose said...

Hines Ward seems like he is an awesome guy. He is always smiling, and he appears to be one of the few football players who doesn't come off as a complete dickhead. When he scores a touchdown, he doesn't glide into the endzone and do a dance. He runs over to the stands and gives the ball to a kid.

Roethlisberger can suck a dick, though. When he got in his motorcycle accident and wasn't wearing a helmet, I realized even more what an idiot he is. (Yes, I do think it is generally stupid to not wear a helmet, but it is even worse when you are the quarterback of the fucking Pittsburgh Steelers. Stupid.)

norojo said...

I think Terry Tate should get the nod tomorrow night for that one

The Big K said...

Does anybody else have a feeling that the douchebags in the the NFL League Offices will fine Ward a large sum of money, or even suspend him, for jobbing Keith Rivers' jaw in the first quarter today?

Joose is correct. I've had a chance to meet Hines on more than a few instances, and he's never been anything but polite and engaging. First time I met him was at camp in 1999 and he talked football with my cousin and I for about 15 minutes. Very cool guy.

What I don't care for is the constant disrespect card that he's always playing, but hey...whatever he uses to motivate himself is cool. I just think he's over the top with it.

I think kind of like Jerome Bettis, he's one of those guys whose on-field talents won't be fully appreciated until he's no longer playing. I've jobbed the guy several times, but he's a consummate football player. I think the NFL would be a far better league if it had a lot more guys like him and far fewer guys like Pacman Jones.

Jonny Van Mundegaarde said...

joose, i'm not the best judge of character, but I can pretty much tell Ben is the type of person I try to avoid hanging out with at all costs. He seems like a complete tool to me, and pretty much has since when he was in that commercial for Fatheads.

J.S., I totally forgot about the Michael J. Fox one! Fucked up? Yes. Funny? Hell yes. And I suppose my penance for my attempt at them was the pic at the top of the blog. That's why this place is such a big deal, spanky. Those two know when and how to push people's buttons. Like FlyerHater, you might not agree with what they say, but this place is a helluva lot better with them around. I guess in the staff's case, it would cease to exist.

@ Joose/J.S. -

I love the guy as a QB, but I also know a handful of people who have dealt with Tumblesberger on some promotional stuff and to say he's a colossal douchebag would be an insult to colossal douchebags everywhere.

And this wasn't just a single instance. These people I know had multiple dealings with him and they said he's basically a petulant baby.

In any case, as hockey tends to be more of an afterthought in Boston after the Red Sox, I'm thinking we'll be seeing lots of depressed faces at the game tomorrow.

(Not because he makes us cry, but because he was a hell of a man.) And Fuck Philly. I'm so glad i don't have to root for Boston to beat Philly. that's like robbing Peter to pay Paul.

CBlog, Props for ignoring that moron who signed is as "hockey boring." I'll bet it was Staff, those sneaky bastards.

I do really like Hines Ward, but it doesn't chafe my ass when Staff, or anyone else, jobs him either. They're all professional athletes which that is part of the job.

Ben is a different story. I also have heard multiple things, one being a first hand account. There's a difference about hearing things first hand and hearing things from a friend of a friend of a cousin who knows someone. It seems that Ben may actually be a terrible human being, but an excellent footbawer.

Another great win for the Steelers. Of course, it was the Bungles.

There is a god. The Rays saved me from a disgusting World Series. Being in New England as I am, Red Sox fans are ridiculously annoying. We all know about Phillies fans. Come on, Tampa Bay. Finish the ride.

I will have to watch the NESN feed for the game tomorrow. That's assuming, of course, that the Red Sox postgame coverage isn't still going on.

The Patriots play tomorrow night as well, so hopefully there will be a large Penguin contingent at the TD Banknorth Garden.

Actually - douchebag doesnt really begin to cover it but Im not sure that there is a word that can accurately describe what an ass he can be. He was an incredibly sweet guy....until I turned him down. Then he was a complete tool.

Ward however is a very nice guy. Part of my job was keeping other people away from them when they came in but I screwed up once and he got mobbed by 15 people wanting autographs. He signed each one and then laughing made fun of me for my error. To show me there were no hard feelings he gave me tickets to one of the games that season. Hes a great guy - but he's still not exempt from jobbing.

Chara = thunderpussy

That “dance” with Laraque last year? Soffter than a newborn kitten's vagina.

…Much like NESN's announcers.

Well, more specifically Edwards, not necessarily Brickley. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to recall mention of “the league needs to get this under control” after Gonchar hit a Bruin against the boards. Maybe if you were commentating on soccer, perhaps… ;)

And yeah, my mother-in-law once told me "we don't like hockey because it's too violent". My 8 year old daughter then proceeded to explain to her the purpose and reasoning behind the necessity for instigators, protectors and the like.

While, YES, there are indeed people out there who just don't geddit... there are also some (even 8 yr old girls) who are not ignorant to the true spirit of hockey and all of its history therein.

It's ironic that the Pensblog staff is very Smizik-like in it's jobbing of Hines Ward.

Ward's crying was after an emotional loss in which he thought his friend Jerome Bettis wasn't going to get his chance to win a Super Bowl.

It's not like Ward's the only athlete to ever cry after a loss. I mean...you did see pictures/footage of the Pens locker room after Game Six last year right?

Are you guys trying to be ironic and bash Hines in your own "obligatory attempt to piss of Steelers fans?"

It's a joke I get it, but acting like hockey players are OMGSOTUFF! that they never show emotion and then ragging on a guy who is passionate enough to get upset about losing and his friend not getting the chance to win a ring, is pathetic.

LET'S GO PENS!
HERE WE GO STEELERS HERE WE GO!

Can't we be fans of both teams equally? Or is there some sort of Pens fan inferiority complex I'm not privy to?

J.S. said...

chase, the jobbing of Hines can be traced back hundreds and hundreds of posts. This didn't start today, and it's not like only the Steelers are targeted. In fact, Staff has admitted to being Steelers fan, so it's not a matter of being fans of "one team or the other." This place has jobbed damn near everybody and anybody who has shown up on the Gore at one time or another.

Read my previous entries. I'm a Ward fan. I like how he plays the game. I wish the NFL had more receivers like him. However, he is not off-limits. Nobody is.

Stoosh, if they lose more than one more game, I'd be surprised. I'm not saying they have any sort of special team, but really, look at the schedule. They already played the only other decent team in the conference and ND still isn't anything special. There won't be any title game after losing to Bowling Green (which I guess also makes no other game a gimme) but there is no reason they can't win the Big East and get to a BCS game.

JYo said...

As for baseball...Lets Go Rays! Philly doesn't deserve a title in any sport, even if I don't care who wins otherwise.

I just flashed back thru that game in my head...I was sitting in E19 and saw all the dramatics unfold at that end of the ice:

•Pilon/Stevens
•Francis' late goal to force OT
•TVG

I remember the roller coaster of emotions...down most of of the game & late until the GTG heroics, the OMG!!!, they'll win it in OT!!! then sitting there stunned with my family and everyone just bewildered beyond words.

I don't think a single word was spoken on the 45 minute ride home.

jyo...

so, basically...I should have been like: meh. The Pens just won the last two Cups...three would have been too many! No Biggie...anyone have a Buccos schedule on them? at least they have a chance this year!

I'm disappointed that the [underdog] Pens lost to the Wings, as well...but, I didn't think that is what your original post was using as a comparison.

I'm less disappointed in this years loss v. TVG cause this team is the beginning of possible great teams to come...sure, you never know when/if they'd get back to only 2 W's from winning it all, but with their core...they have a good shot in the next 5-6 years....

That 1992-93 team was basically an All-Star team with a Three-peat or Bust type mentality...that should have beaten the NYI without too many problems...

Maybe since the expectations were so high...it's that big of a fall/disappointment compared to this most recent Spring's results, IMO.
