Ass Clown city.

[Thanks to Puck Daddy for the heads up]

Charlie's dad used to have a pair of sun glases like that, but then he got a job.

Therrien apparently coaches the Canucks now as well.

Joke.

I don't mean to keep the political thread going, but I couldn't get back online last night.

Did anyone else keep expecting McCain to pull his shirt over his head amidst all his bizarre fidgeting and grunting and start shouting "I need TP for my bunghole!!" The dude's Beavis.

Well, I'm off to take my kid to the doc.

What the hell is that guy, a 5th grade teacher sitting in front of his chalk board after hours?

Frustrated with your life much?

I also don't know which channels he's watching but he must be confusing Sid with the 5th grade girls hockey team he coaches.

Nice job mentioning HCMT twice, peen. You're smart!

XOXO,

I would love it if HCMT was the coach out here, but I'm just fine with HCAV with my boys to the north thank you. But then, all Frenchies are the same, right Don Cherry? Bah!

I wonder if this guy is PhillyFreak's friend?

Malone, who had 27 goals last season for the Penguins, agreed.

"I really haven't had many scoring chances," he said. "When you're not getting many scoring chances, you have to figure out what's going on."

Here's a hint: two words, initials are E.M. I like Malone and all, but anyone who doesn't think that his play was hugely boosted by Geno last season is kidding themselves.

i've been thinking about this...... what was the interview process for mathew barnaby?

Report: Hawks fire head coach Denis Savard
2008-10-16 12:14:00

Denis Savard has been fired as coach of the Blackhawks, ESPN.com is reporting.

The Blackhawks started the 2008-09 season with a 1-2-1 record, picking up their first victory Wednedsay night against Phoenix.

Over parts of three seasons behind the Blackhawks bench, Savard had a 65-66-16 record.

Canadian sports netowrk TSN is reporting Savard will be replaced by Joel Quenneville, who led the Avalanche for the past three seasons.

Savard gets fired only 3 games in? 3 GAMES?? WTF? And Coach Q's already been hired to take his place? That went too fast to not have been in place already.

fleuryous said...

Yikes. Poor guy.

In other news, I'm hoping for another Ovechkin-Malkin "check."

Haha, that one made me laugh so hard I may have crapped my pants.

fleuryous said...

By the way, I really think Sid is going to score tonight. He's got the fevaaaaaaaaa.

B(R)ING IT.

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

It was 4 games in, but that's what happens when there are expectations in place and you stumble out of the gate. NHL teams fire coaches a lot more quickly than other leagues, I've noticed. Bob Hartley was the first coach to get the axe last season after all of 6 games.

Pops Freshenmeyer said...

And let's not forget that the Pens fired Ivan Hlinka 4 games into the 2001-02 season. Of course, the only reason Hlinka even got those 4 games was because the Pens made it to the conference finals the year before. Even then he probably shouldn't have been brought back.

Kierstan said...

@ Pops Freshenmeyer - That's true, but I still don't think that's enough time for a fair evaluation. Especially with a new coach hired already, this had to have been at least partially set before the season began, in my opinion at least.

In more fun news, I agree with Fleuryous. Sid's due for some points tonight.

RedWings said...

This Blackhawk situation looks like more good news for the Wings. The Hawks had our number a bit last year and they've got great young talent. But the Wings have owned Quenneville for years. So I'm liking it.

guess Denis can de-Commit to the Indian?

that's too bad. I always thought he was a pretty decent coach [with what he had to work with]...and now that the or-gan-i-zation builds the team up: he gets the boot!

Is it me or has the beginning of the Pens season been kinda: blah.

Even at the Flyers game the other night, there was no sense of that 'special' som-em som-em, which seemed to be prevalent at the majority of all the games last year.

Now, I don't expect every game to be playoff-ish intensity or excitement...but the boys just seem to be going thru the motions for large portions of these first few games....expecting something to happen instead of making something happen...[I'm blaming Eaton...just kidding]

maybe it's having 8 new faces out of 23 on the current roster, and they haven't started gellin' like Magellan yet....I just hope the current trend does a 180ยบ sooner, rather than later...hope to see it start in about 6 hours from now, mmmmmk?

@ Turk,

Hilarious "better dead than red".

dying alive said...

Dr - It's not just the players, I think the fans are getting over the Stanley Cup hangover as well. The opener definitely had a large contingent of the wine and cheese, only-there-to-be-seen crowd. The Flyers game was better, but still not the usual intensity you see vs. the Flyers. I guess the season is still ramping up.

Speaking of fans, has anyone else ever noticed the guy who sits at the corner of F balcony where the Pens shoot twice who goes absolutely INSANE when they play certain songs? I noticed him the other night during Crazy Train and the guy was losing his his shit, waving his arms around like he was conducting a symphony and dancing around all jerkily. I thought he might actually throw himself off of the balcony at one point. Is he there every game? My friend said she's seen him a bunch of times but I can't believe that I never noticed him before.

Dan said...

oh my god doc i just made that comparison the other day. ovechkin also needs a nail sticking out of his head

Dr. Turkleton said...

DA...

100% agreed about the fans as well...hopefully, everyone gets out of their funk ASAP [I even noticed the pretzel lady I sometimes visit between periods hasn't been on top of her game to start the season]

can't help you with the guy in F as he's over my head...BUT

I did notice a JESUS SAVES / SATAN SCORES [at least I think that's what it said...it was kinda wrinkly like the new banners] written on a white bed sheet hanging on the back wall [D8,9ish], almost directly across from your B,C,D23 seat.

redwings...

don't laugh too hard...I believe there's a bit o' red in your sweaters, too! [hehehehe]

dan...

HA!...or maybe a Candy Cane? compliments of a certain #44 tonight?

I remember linking this last year [I think SI posted it around the beginning of the playoffs, maybe?]
here's the linky to the rest of the Sports Illustraded pics.

I didn't see the game against the Devils, but I feel like the games this season have been special enough. There are still kinks to work out, but I'm seeing certain things showing through that are kind of brilliant and I'm really enjoying the games.

Tonight: Malkin's going to float one in instead of hitting the post, and Crosby's going to get his goal. We're all going to be so fucking excited that we're not going to know what hit us.

Vanessa said...

@debrisslide-- I agree. While the games aren't playoffish, who expects them to be? It's the start of the season, people... let them hit their stride!

People who want that type of game (or intensity, or amazing plays), every game are fair weather fans in my book. It's just not fair to expect that each time. Plus... the playoff atmosphere is a totally different thing, with the crowd in the arena creating so much energy.

I'm just happy to see any game, after such a long summer and the constant stream of redwing players, jerseys, Stanley cup on display, etc... up here in MI.

Dan said...

doc........ ovie's gonna have a tootsie roll in his pants when orpik is done with him.

@DA: I don't know if anyone gave you the requested summary... but basically it's a YouTube of some douchebag with a backwards hat and sunglasses... and OF COURSE the "I'm into Sports" Goatee ranting and raving about which coaches in the NHL will be fired this year.

He's an ass.

----------

I think that "special" feeling will come back real soon for the Pens as soon as:

1)Someone starts crashing the net.

2)The Steelers go on a three game winning streak and the assholes that go to Pens games just to say "Yeah, I was at the game... blah blah look how cool I am." can go back to following the current "Hottest Team in Pittsburgh."

3)The players stop running into each other on the ice.

Change is Coming
