First? Wow.
Can someone explain to me - in Annapolis - who Mark Madden is?
Or is that just a picture of John Candy with facial hair?
whatev, don't care.
I'm not in Pittsburgh during drive time, and I don't huddle around the radio like they did in the 50s to listen to a show.
Is it good that he talks more Penguins hockey than anybody else? Yeah I guess. But this situation reminds me of an episode of Dirty Jobs where they had to filter through tons and tons of crap to find a few good items that may have passed through the pipes.
In some form or for some reason, I guess this is good. But for me, I'm not going out of my way to listen.
Sometimes, he can be rather obnoxious, but sometimes, he makes me pee with laughter.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Madden
if you don't know who he is.
My dad likes listening to him, so yeeeeah...I guess he'll be happy about it. haha
Madden is fat and annoying.
Oh, I see. Madden's the guy who was canned for saying this:
"I'm very disappointed to hear that Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts is near death because of a brain tumor. I always hoped Senator Kennedy would live long enough to be assassinated.
Seriously Staff? You guys are happy that this trash is back on the air just because he mentions the Pens every once in a while?
Political assassination is serious business, and people who openly advocate it on either side are pure scumbags. If someone said the same thing about George W. Bush, I'd consider them just as despicable.
doc, it was actually more than that, but the Kennedy thing was icing on the cake.
I'll admit to laughing at the Kennedy comments when reading it. However, his comments about Kennedy are just an example of jobbing where somebody might be offended. I mean do you think MM was calling for the assassination of Ted Kennedy?
I think Madden sees himself as the Howard Stern of sports radio. When you tune in, you expect to hear something offensive (as well as quite a lot of yinzer gibberish).
The important question has yet to be answered: does this also mean the return of the Mark Madden Money Seat?
Also, he mentions the Pens a lot more than once in a while. He's definitely the only show in town that talks Pens more than Steelers.
I'm not really a fan of his and I don't go out of my way to listen whatsoever, but I did tune in during my commutes on game days.
meh.
I think people getting offended by tPB is one of the funniest things ever.
docciavelli needs to suck it the fuck up. it was a joke.
p.s. i hope george w. gets assassinated.
I could care less about Madden. But, Im not offended by him either.
Im with coffeytalk. meh.
/Maddenbashing
(hockey related)
Obama shows his true colors. ;)
the big turd sandwich got his job back......... ugh
Who cares if people are offended? Ppeople need to be less sensitive. I'd care if he actually assassinated someone. I don't give a shit what Mark Madden says unless it's about the Pens or WWE Monday Night Raw.
Nobody has the right to not be offended. If you're offended by something just shut up and cry yourself to sleep at night if it'll make you feel better.
j.s. McCain is a rich white guy. Do you think he would be caught downtown Detroit? Obama is just pressing for the poor folk/mentally retarded demographic that most of Detroit consists of.
After scoring the shootout winner against Luongo last season, Letang exclaimed to his teammates "was that good?"
I'm so buying a Letang jersey this year.
haha... I was kind of disappointed when I initially saw that Obama photo. Hopefully he threw it away.
He does need to get our biggest city behind him, though... since McLame dropped out of MI.
MM is back. Sick.
I gotta agree with Stilly. People think it's a right to not be offended. I say fuck off. Ruining shit for everybody else offends me. That said, meh.
Madden is an overrated douche. I'm sure if I watched countless hours of wrestling and stole all their catch phrases I could do his job too. I respect his Pens opinions just not his style or undeserved swagger. I know his ratings were tops so I guess I'm just bitter.
Mark Madden appeals to the same type of humor that tPB does. If you're offended, go F yourself. Glad to have him back, especially since he loves the Pens and calls out Yinzer Nation for their blind love of all things Stillers.
Speaking of Mark Madden, does anyone know what ever happened to the actor who played Tong Po in the movie, "Kickboxer?"
Obama is just pressing for the poor folk/mentally retarded demographic that most of Detroit consists of.
As so often is the case, max power = WIN
Not a Madden fan at all. Don't like him one bit, really. But, honestly, I'm mostly whatev. I'm happy for his fans that they have him back. Everything needs a villain, and Madden fills that role on sports talk radio better than a lot of people who try.
I still remember Madden from his time embarrassing himself as color commentator during the dying days of WCW.
i dont mean to just jump in and completely change the conversation, (even though thats exactly what i'm doing) maybe i should have saved this for a more appropriate post, but i need peoples opinions of therrien and his coaching style. i guess you could say im not a huge fan but im not going to say FIRE HIM because he obviously does overall a good job taking us to the finals and all. but, i guess the most recent thing i didn't understand was sydor playing forward on the 4th line. it kind of made me mad that we have players like bill thomas and although i hate to admit it but he did make the team, bisonette that belong on the fourth line. both of those players beat out someone that i had high hopes for, pesonen, and they dont even dress for the home opener. not exactly sure what my overall point is but this is getting lengthy so im done. thoughts?
Letang arrived at training camp last month "in the best shape I've ever seen him in," coach Michel Therrien said.
Are we still allowed to use the "best shape of his life" jokes?
Frank, I think Pesonen was sent to WBS because they wanted to give him top line playing experience there. If anything, they did him a favor and increased his chances of making the team next season. He hadn't earned top line playing time in the NHL and apparently he's not the kind of guy who would flourish on a checking line.
I generally like Therrien. The Sydor-at-forward thing was pretty weird, though.
Am I the only one who couldn't get Torgo's theme song outta her head every time ZigoManos was mentioned the other night? Let's just hope he puts those Hands of Fate to good use.
anyone else home and getting the chance to watch afternoon hockey [games at 100p & 200p]?...featuring the annual Christi Brinkley sighting at the NY Islanders Columbus Day game.
frank...
Syd Orr played a bit over 6 minutes at the home opener, 5 of those minutes at even strength...I think HCMT wanted more flex as using him as a possible 7th defenseman, [I can't recall if he did skate any shifts on D, but he got some PP time] than as a 4th line forward [he did play sparingly as a forward early in his career when with the Kings].
I'd expect to see either Biz Nasty or Thomas in the lineup Tuesday v. the Flyers to add a bit more 'grit'.
[Well...well...well]

Wow. Touchy, touchy. A bunch of people were so offended by my offense to Mark Madden that they had to type out their little rants. Seems we've hit douchebag central this morning. Where to start? How about here:
docciavelli needs to suck it the fuck up. it was a joke.
p.s. i hope george w. gets assassinated.
Nice joke yourself, clown. Good luck with the coming Secret Service investigation.
Nobody has the right to not be offended. If you're offended by something just shut up and cry yourself to sleep at night if it'll make you feel better.
Great use of a double negative, Stilly. I'll raise you a triple: Nobody has the right to not be a non-douche. Think about it. And good luck getting to sleep while dealing with being offended by my jobbing of your little hero MM.
I gotta agree with Stilly. People think it's a right to not be offended. I say fuck off. Ruining shit for everybody else offends me. That said, meh.
I didn't ask for your personal attack. That being said, don't lump me in with "People." I don't know the dickheads you run around with.
And please explain how I "ruined shit" for everyone. All I said was that calling for an assassination is a scumbag move. Similar to the Philly fan who told me he wished Crosby got cancer. Maybe you should start following the Flyers.
Mark Madden appeals to the same type of humor that tPB does. If you're offended, go F yourself.
Fail. tPB has never called for the assassination of anyone that I know of, other than perhaps Marian Hossa and David Volek. That's understandable and a clear joke. Nobody would waste the bullet on David Volek, and we wouldn't kill Hossa, we'd just put him in a permanent vegetative state and urinate on him when we felt like it.
Saying that you wished someone would be assassinated on the air is 100% different. Especially when two of their brothers were, in fact, assassinated. If you can't figure out the difference between stringing up an effigy of Hossa and broadcasting your "hope" that someone would be assassinated, then why don't you go F yourself. While you're at it, try helping Stilly get over being offended.
All that aside, I apologize to all the other cbloggers for this shit. Apparently a few Danielles got their panties in a bunch because I jobbed some fat guy with a microphone. I'm sure they won't get over it, so I'll let them take it from here on out.
I'd love to see Cheney run this country for a few months, Canaan.
I don't think I've actually ever heard Madden say anything other than the dribble he would say at Pens Games. (Which of course was usually drowned out by "boo's.")
Cblog: Can we SERIOUSLY stop it with the politicsblog. It's being shoved down our throats from every other medium out there (Gore, TV, Friends, Family). It's nice to have an escape from all of that shit and I like to thing that Pens hockey and tPB/cblog is one of those places.
Fun fact about presidential assassinations - Robert Todd Lincoln was present (or supposed to be present) at THREE of them. He was supposed to be present at Ford's Theater the night Lincoln was assassinated, he witnessed the assassination of Garfield, and he was at McKinley's assassination at the Pan-American Exposition.
He also rigged a trial to have his mother committed to an insane asylum against her will.
[/history nerd]
MM is gold. get over it.
if you dont like him or what he says then....dont listen!
hes just another added dimension of coverage on the pens and hes entertaining to say the least.
@docciavelli
Trust me, I didn't get offended by anything you said. Your opinion isn't important enough for me to care about. I was making a general observation about the attitude of too many people today. I don't live in Pittsburgh, and I don't give a fuck about Mark Madden. I won't be losing any sleep tonight.
I didn't mention your name in my post and I wasn't referring to you specifically. Get over yourself.
bng66 = beast
I second his motion
@dying alive-
I swear to God, Letang's arms are MONSTERS!
They're the first thing I noticed when I saw him after pratcice. And his hands too... he just looks pure muscle.
Glad to see the coach giving him a little recognition for his off season work
The game is back and for us, Pittsburgh sports talk radio will never...ever be the same.
Penguins mania, brothers and sisters!
OK cblog, I'll take the fall for this one.
I was the one who posted the pic of a certain candidate with a Red Wings jersey. It was posted with the mindset that every politician has their downfalls, not to stir the pot politically. If you know me or at least followed my facebook group, most should know where I lean politically. However, I make it a point not to mention it in c-blog and even make it a point to say that both sides are kinda fucked.
I now consider this discussion as dead as Kordell Stewart's football career.
On a more positive note, I'd like to say Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian c-bloggers.
I observed it today by taking the day off. :)
i have learnt more about usa history and politics by reading sport blogs than what i did in history lessons... i hate myself for not discovering this earlier:/
If you're bored of the dick show going on here, there's quite the brawl going on in the Sabres/Isles game right now.
that's a bit deceiving.
a 5-0 game in the 2nd isn't exactly a "brawl". Maybe it is for the Isles.
Former Penguins goaltender Patty Lalime is in net, and by the looks of it, the refs are confused. Mair and somebody going in and out of the penalty boxes and eventually leaving the ice and heading to the locker room.
Rangers prospect Cherepanov dies. Supposedly he collided with Jagr (they are on the same team).
Link
That Letang article was great.
He's cash money. Furreal.
j.s., thanks for clearing that up. I was simply referring to the actual fighting that was going on at the time, not nec the game.
Let it be known that I am a fan of all sorts of penis-fencing, be it on ice or in c-blog or Charlie's hotel room. It's all good.
Woohoo the DOW close at 900+! God's spoons life might actually be worth continuing.
crmzak, not a prob. I'll admit to not watching the entire game, so you definitely had a better idea what was going on. I got wrapped up in the Leafs/Blues game, which eventually went to the shootout.
@stoosh (if he's reading):
Guess who scored for Buffalo on the power play?
Hint: It wasn't Connolly, but it was definitely....(click me)
Lalime loses the shutout, and Dick Hunter scores. 6-1 Sabres.
Sad news in the world of hockey:
http://www.sportsline.com/nhl/story
/11031021
Rangers top prospect Alexei Cherepanov died in a collision earlier today.
I have read it was with a collision between him and Jagr, but not sure if this is accurate.
19 is way too young for anything like that
I think someone needs to make a good photoshop for halloween of brooks orpik. Maybe something that says Trick or Treat bitch with him hitting someone into the boards or something. I would make one if I had photoshop.
nick, http://www.gimp.org/
not quite photoshop, but it's free
That Rangers prospect didn't die because of a collision.
He died of a heart attack.
Poor kid. That's terrible.
That's terrible.
Man, he was young.
My thoughts are with his family.
Wow, that's terrible about Cherepanov. So young.
i got nothing on madden
and my thoughts go out to that kids family and friends. knowing someone who dies at such a young age with so much promise left is a horrible thing on people's minds for a long time to come.
@crmzak-without reading any further; Manos Hands of Fate reference=WIN
+1
@docciavelli- actually most of the dickheads I hang with are pretty much like you too. But I tell them to STFU all the time too when they go out of their way to be offended, but it's usually no big deal either. Being offended doesn't make anyone a bad person, just a little annoying.
@rage, I woulda 'chopped it if I had photoshop. I can totally picture him in the black cape with the red hands on it and fire and shit. Ya know wutta mean?
But, I was too busy effin with some bruins photos. mwah-ah-ah...
Its so sad about Alexei. Terrible. But is it true that he ran into Jagr's elbow or is that a rumor still?
poor Jags... he's gotta be feeling pretty bad right now... hope he doesn't blame himself..
I find it weird that if the Jagr story is true that it involved one player who is a few months removed from the Rangers and another player who was high in the Rangers system who might have been a year away.
RIP Alexei
Again... the report that he died from a collision with Jagr IS NOT TRUE.
He died of a heart attack.
did anyone here anything about the god/letang fight in practice this morning?
Sorry to hear about another Athlete Dying Young
J.S., Isn't Dick Hunter one of those chicks vying to be Paris Hilton's new BFF like OMG on that reality show?
Listened to a little bit of Madden off and on today, nothing noteworthy, he interviewed Sidney, and I caught the middle of it. Sidney was talking about not expecting too much and learning lessons. I thought he was talking about his career, but here he was talking about his dating life. You really can put his answers to any questions asked, he's so vanilla. Was kind of surprised to hear that he was pretty adament about Ben being the NFL's clear cut MVP.
I also threw up in my mouth a little bit when he started talking about his plans for his show (straight from the Howard Stern Big Book of Radio Show Gimmicks). The mention of a donkey show wasn't so bad, but when he explained his plans to hook a high school kid up with a stripper for his prom, he then intimated his participation in a three way. I bet you just gagged right now too.
He also mentioned that he wants to do a mini-golf tournament with Talbot for charity, so that's kinda cool...
That's so tragic. He was only nineteen.
Jonny V, that poem made me tear up a bit.
@jonnyv
Isn't Dick Hunter one of those chicks vying to be Paris Hilton's new BFF like OMG on that reality show?
Not really sure. If I had to bet on it, I would have bet big money that it was one of Paris Hilton's aliases.
damn, I so miss Abby at 3:00. She was the best! I'll give MM a shot. But i never really cared for him too much.
and I have a feeling that was part of the joke.
J.S. = probably late to the joke...again.
I listened to MM today for about 45 minutes, and was there for the Sid interview.
I thought he was pretty lame, he didn't really say anything i found funny at all (and i find all of tPB funny) and he didn't really enlighten me on any hockey related things. All he did was talk about wanting to giz all over Reg Dunlop's face.
The crosby interview was also lame, he didn't ask him anything funny, although he tried to by talking about the ladies.
Oh well, and as for HCMT, He put Sydor on forward cus he wanted to use him on the PP but didn't want to waste a top 6 d-man spot with a piece of shit like the big D. Can we please just waive this guy already? Like seriously, why do we have him on the team? If we lost Scuds tomorrow, i would rather see us bring up Danny Richmond than use Sydor.
I useta be a fan of Madden but to me he has become a parody of himself. I can handle his love for hockey and he CAN be funny. However in the end he is way too insulting to himself and his audience. No thanks, I'll pass.
Wow. Poor Alexei. The way they tended to him and carried him off is just ridiculous. For a league that is supposed to have a lot of money, one would think they'd have something more than third world medical protocol.
No wonder Geno got out while he could.
