This article at [ ESPN ] talked about some Hossa shit.
It was time about two months ago to put the Hossa crap to bed.
Now that we've had time to reflect, this Hossa situation is pretty clear.
Players won't be upset 'cause "that's the business."
And why were/are Pens fans upset?
Well, we've watched this team work their balls off to climb out of the basement.
They are taking the long way to the Cup; the way you should do it.
The Pens and the fanbase was jobbed last year, saying how the Pens took advantage of high draft picks, resulting in their rise to the top.
Uh, yeah. That's why the system is designed the way it is.
No knock on Detroit here, either.
They've built their minor-league system and find players that no one else finds.
But when you throw in a prima donna like Hossa, things get blurred.
Talk about a joke.
Instead of doing things the hard way and earning a Cup, he signs a ONE-YEAR deal with the team who is the defending champion.
Again, we're not saying Detroit didn't earn the Cup.
They're well-coached and sick.
Last season, Hossa drafted the Pens down the backstretch at Talladega
and slingshotted (slungshot?) past them in Turn 3.
It always sucks when someone uses you like that.
And that's what Hossa did to the Penguins.
And that's why the fanbase considers him a joke.
Let's not kid ourselves -- a Cup win last season would have been superb.
And we wouldn't have cared if Hossa bolted following the season.
We would have essentially used him if things had turned out that way.
But now the Pens are back to where they belong: earning the Cup.
Ray Shero may have learned some lessons the past couple years.
Trading for rent-a-players every season can only be sustained for so long.
So, whatev.
The whole "working for what you get" thing fits in well with the city of Pittsburgh.
It's going to be doubly sweet when the Pens raise the Cup.
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Emptying our soul a couple days ago, along with the encouraging e-mails people sent us,
and seeing that Malkin goal against the Flyers yesterday...
It kind of got us pumped up.
The soul-cleansing post may have turned the tide.
We felt better as soon as we posted it.

Who are you and what have you done with tPB staff?
Wooo! I'm glad you guys seem to be having fun with this again. That's what it's all about, in the end.
Good post as well. It does suck Hossa turned out to be a dick, but as it's been mentioned here before, if we had signed him we wouldn't have been able to lock in our core for the next several years.
I did have Fiesta Mexicana stuck in my head this morning though, and it made me a little sad. We need a new theme song for this season.
The Pens, Fuck Yeah!
Staff is back! The Hossa situation is more dead than Christopher Reeves. It will be fun to watch Anaheim smack Detroit out of the playoffs. I'm also looking forward to the fantastic flop of the Rectal Rangers and witnessing a Filthy fan cry when their team doesn't make the playoffs this season. One more week and the beast shall have an appetizer!
One more goal is to watch Peso show the world that Osgood is nothing more than an over rated over the hill no go post menopausal vangingo
Yo staff, my two cents regarding your soul searching...the hockey season would NOT be the same without tPb and the community of posters that you have helped create. THANK YOU for everything you do.
Low morale/enthusiasm from time to time is totally understandable, especially during a boring summer after an incredible season but keep the faith, brothers - there is light at the end of the tunnel...and the light is wearing #87...and 55...and 71...and 44...and 29...and 11...and 25...and 58...
@annie, maybe listening to the Pesonen sond a few times will knock Fiesta Mexicana out of your head?
On week from today, pre-season game #1 will be in the books...
(song)
maxpower, how are you doing with your resolution list - more angry fist waving, etc.?
Thank the fuck Christ you are back.
Copied from previous post:
I asked about the RMU Celeb-Alumni game last night in the other post, but I dunno if anyone responded.
Did anybody go?
Eileen told me about it, and it sounded sweet, but alas I had an obligatory thing. Blah.
And I love you, tPB.
Too pumped for next weekend.
wtf...a nascar reference...disappointing
im gonna say nascar = ricky bobby
In other news... I've failed miserably at finding a sweet picture of Hans from the mighty ducks series. I think he'd be about as clutch as they come for gameday posts. Altho he did die because Charlie Conway bored him to death with his prepubescent bullshit whining... hm...
Hans...

Its going well. I was using more anry fist waving but I got hit by a wrangler and it popped my right shoulder out. I have to use my left arm now and I don't think it sells it as much. I'm hoping I don't get screwed by work again and I can actually make 20 or so games.

I love posts like this.
Theme song hunt for the year should be a preseason pensblog contest. or something.
i.e. cblog does the work to give staff a break.
Does anyone feel that Eric's contract might effect what Jordan will be asking for. Not to say that he'll want the same contract by anymeans, Eric is after all a former 100 point club member. But do you think this will cause him to ask for more than he would've?
I posted this yesterday but whatev
Peso
this gets my vote
So, I made 50 dollars this morning for 2 hours of officiating youth hockey games. I'm rich!
@jawsh-that very thought passed thru my head very briefly. Surely there will be no correlation between the two. That said, I wonder if the Pens will try the rent a player again. I hope not, for what it's worth.
If anybody is watching NHLN, you will see what I meant about Moog when they show the handshake line.
I fully support the no jobbing Stephen S. rule. The guy is money.
@jawsh: No. Eric's contract should have nothing to do with Jordan's contract. Eric's position on his team and importance is different than Jordan's. Not saying Gronk isn't important, but what Eric has done for his team is what made him alternate captain and why he should be captain in a few years *crossing fingers* What is expcted of Jordan Staal and his position is much different from Eric even though they are both top-6 forwards. Both may be centers (currently) but they offer different things to the table to their respective teams. Eric Staal is in no way known for physical play or his defensive skills (although he can be defensive if need be), while Staal proved to be a shut-down 3rd line center. If they are determining the salary for Gronk based on Eric, than that's ridiculous.
I don't even think that Jordan is thinking his contract should be a certain amount because of his brother but because of his rookie year performance and last season performance. He provided the goals and offensive fuel in his rookie year while last season showed the strength, penalty killing, and defensive capabilities. Frankly, I think Jordan's agent wants more money for Gronk (as he should) so is waiting for the season to show more of Jordan's strengths.
FIRST!
The first rule of tPB should be to not let S.S. make posts.
Sorry Stepen... your graphics are life-changing put your posts (and then deleting them... seriously??) are less than par. Don't cheapen the deal.
@Max: That Peso song was tossed around here when we signed him. That doesn't mean that I don't like hearing it every day... trust me. Nanananannananaaaaaa
Oh, speaking of HOCKEY...
Someone mentioned last night (before it was deleted) that they can't wait to watch the D battle between Goligoski-Sydor-Scoods.
No way.
Scoods was EASILY the best d-man on the ice (other than Gonch) all of last season.
Besides... Scoods gets a free pass in my book simply for the way he and Max re-acted to the Avery scrum at the end of Game 2 last Spring.
11 second mark... but even better look at the 1:24 mark... keep your eyes at the top on Scoods and Talbot.
Awesome.
@Bng66: I mentioned the fact that Scuds gets the starting spot and Golgi should be with the Baby Pens. Sydor is back-up to Scuds because he has earned his dues no matter what people said about him last year.
I love that all 3 of the guys (Scuds, Talbot, and neglected Bugsy) turned to take them on ... those boys, man, I'm going to miss seeing them all together.

Oh and I have the mp3 for the pesonen song. Does anyone know how i can post a link to that so everyone can download it?
Not to veer off topic, but from the article:
Sidney Crosby was equally stunned, especially after bumping into Hossa at a Bahamas resort in June and going home convinced he was going to get his star winger back in the Penguins' fold.
First of all, I hate it when I run into colleagues at Bahamas resorts.
Secondly, Cindy Gaysby knows ultimately the joke is on Hossa, since now Hossa has to actually live in Detroilet.
Shake and bake!
And that's how you job a bitch
haha...Detroilet. too good.
The Pesonen song is solid. It's definitely a contender for theme songs '08-09.
@ihk, I couldn't have said it any better about the Staal contract dealings. Jordan and Eric are completely different. But I am anxious to see if Jordan starts out the season on wing or back at 3rd line center.
Wow, I feel like I haven't been around in ages.
What kind of contract did Pesonen get? If it's a 1 yr/1way what happens if he sucks? Is he just given the full amount of the contract and sent away or does he go thru waivers enroute to WB/S?
I think it's two years...I think.
Whoops, just kidding...one year.
@bng - that video makes me miss Penguins hockey (especially Max Talbot, SHIT SON) that it's becoming a profoundly emotional experience.
I exaggerate. Maybe. A little.
And I do believe it's two-way...
I thought that it was a 2yr 2way
It's a one yr, but I don't know if it's two-way or not...looking now
I'm almost positive it's a 2-way, 1 yr. deal. Though if he doesnt make the team I think he has the option of going back to Finland. Not quite sure on that aspect though.
1 year 2 way deal
Last paragraph
team FH unite! thanks for the shout out bng
"across this line.. YOU DO NOT!.. and another thing dude, chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature, It's asian american."
does no one really care that robert lang is on the canadiens now? No one ever talked about that shit when it happened.
I think he's gonna make them a better team.
-thats my official stance on the topic.
Nice! Thanks!
I thought the first rule of TPB was "when jobbed, always job back". I mean in general, not because....eh, whatev.
OK, I have the Pelimies song. I just need somebody to host it. I can't access my old AOL FTP, and the setup for yahoo makes no sense. Facebook me with your email address and I'll send it out for somebody to host.
Fiesta Mexicana is dead to me. It's about as dead as Rex Gildo, except it's maybe slightly warmer.
From the last post, will you marry me BNG66? I think our relationship should be taken to the next level.
Stephen S. trying to write interesting shit on this blog is like trying to set up Recchi for a one-timer on the Power Play, it's never going to work. Stick to worshiping Andy Warhol's balls Stephen.
What's with the Stephen S. hate? He's part of the staff too, show some respect.
Stephen S isn't a staff member, the only true staff members are Derek and Adam.
Gotta go with eileen here fh...show some love
Thank god they are back.
What worthless, miserable douchebaggy waste of carbon who should've been emptied into a reservoir tip would job Stephen S.? His artwork is first-rate.
fh, once you get to know you, you're a rather cheerful fellow.
so no one cares about robert lang? is that what were getting at?
i think it's about time to get a moderator up in this house.
First thing's first... STEPHEN S. IS AWESOME. No jobbing allowed.
Second - I went to the RMU celebrity hockey game last night. The final score was 9-8 and they had a shootout...? Anyway, it was pretty fun...Dave Hanson was, of course, the highlight of the show. He had foil on his knuckles and "fought" someone in the first period.
Mike Prisuta from DVE was hilarious. He was wobbly on his skates and everyone had to skate around him, trying not to hit him.
I care about Lang. It just pains me to see him in another uniform so, like that deranged cousin who stabbed his teacher with a #3 pencil and is now in the looney bin, I speak not of him.
@nick-I dislike the Habs...ergo, Lang being a decent player, I hate that they got him. How's that?
Hey all --
Anyone else watching the Gaborik thing play out?
I know going after Gaborik @ the deadline would be like Hossa all over again -- but let's not forget, if nothing else, the EXCITEMENT that trading for Hossa caused.
In the end, I think 99% of people agree the Hossa trade was the right decision, regardless of what happened. Probably 99.9% would agree that regardless of whether it was right or wrong, it WAS exciting.
What's the chance that Gaborik becomes the winger Crosby has dreamed of?
It would at least be fun to talk about it..
So, i went to Kennywood today, sporting my Orpik T, and who do i see not ten minutes into the day? No, not Brooks Orpik, but almost equally as exciting(although some Free Candy would have been great). I see none other than Tyler Kennedy and Jordan Staal. I wish the story got more interesting from there. They must have been leaving(at like 11:15) because i didn't see them the rest of the day. i did notice this: either Jordan is seriously a beast or TK is incredibly short. He was stocky, like BUILT, but short.
Great story, tell it again sometime.
@ go: Prisuta is AWFUL, i've played against him before and the guys on his own team were saying that they just send him to the front of the net and hope he knocks a few in. But you gotta give him alot of credit for playing. The rest of that Alumni Charity team is sick.
What do the Pens have to trade away for him? I don't see Uncle Ray having the goods to pull it off...but then again, what do I know? Is Gaborik a countryman of Hossa? I dunno if exciting is the word I'd use, but I see where you're going
@Kat: Nice to see ya around again *smiles*
@nick saia: Lang should be a decent fit in Montreal. I loved him, he was on one of my favorite Pens teams (00-01 Penguins.) I'm kinda doubting his play-time with AK-27 (who I adore still), but I think he'll have a decent season.
Plus, that means the Habs aren't going after Sundin ... I hope every team decides not to pick up Sundin because he has to make himself seem bigger than he is. (although I doubt this happens)
I wonder how you say, "Get off the ice, Lang!" in French.
Back in the day, Lang was the guy that half my section always demanded back to the bench. (It had to be someone.) I never understood it. One of the top point getters for the Pens those seasons and these idiots wouldn't shut up about getting him to sit down.
I have to join in on the Lang love. I'm gunna miss seeing him in a Hawks jersey.
New post.
i've said it from the very beginning ....screw hossa, keep bugsy... but NOOOOO
