376 Is A Joke

Accuse us of mailing this one in, but we just sat in traffic for over 4 hours, and went nowhere.
Just a terrible experience.

To sum it up, it was worse than leaving the "Ice Bowl."

This has nothing to do with the Penguins or hockey, but something needs to be done.

Thanks to the assbags at Penndot, the Parkway East was at a complete stand-still. [KDKA]

For those who are from out of town, the Parkway is a major roadway between Pittsburgh and some suburbs.

If someone finds some type of movement to fight the assholes at Penndot, we will get on board.

The people who are responsible for this mess, need to pay some type of price.

What a joke.

Not being able to watch the local Pittsburgh news leaves me with a hollow feeling.

Ah so that was what was going on. I had to drive into the city and saw people backing up and turning around. Penndot is ridiculous. I really don't GET how they get away with being idiots.

In case anyone is interested, the Panthers basketball schedule is up now. SO pumped for it to start as well.

I know the chance is slim to none, but I wanted to attend a game at Petersen. My friend grew up with Levance, so I'm going to peer pressure him into hooking me up. haha, JUST KIDDIIIIIIIING. But, I really want to see a game somehow.

Even if it means blowing Dixon. WOO.

read that article and tell me if you see a mistake. Too funny.

rumor has it that PENNDOT workers works a four-ten schedule. 4 minutes of work (read: holding a shovel) followed up by 10 hours of standing around and three days off.

There is no reason why 376 should be that backed up. I remember coming into Pittsburgh a few weeks ago and it took me longer to go from exit 10 into town than it did for me to go from Johnstown to exit 10. Also factor in that the ride from Johnstown to Pittsburgh includes another road that is eternally under construction, route 22.

BlacknGold66 said...

Now that's what I call a sticky situation!

Barrett said...

PENNDOT is such joke.

There has been construction on route 22 since before I was born. And back in the beginning of August they had 376 from three lanes down to one and almost made me miss my flight at the airport.

Shouldn't there be some kind of accountability for these people?

They take forever to get anything done. Why should they be able to hold us hostage on the roads like this?

The Goon Blogger said...

Who fucking meses with the Parkway? That's the only way to get around in Pittsburgh without having either an Indian Tracker or a Yinzer that was literally born and raised on Boulevard of the Allies to help you get around.

Glad I'm in Erie for the time being.

I was at a party in Monroeville and we decided to go the turnpike instead of the parkway... we lucked out. I didn't know that shitfest was going on.

PennDOT will definitely pay for this one...PAY HUGE. I'm sure of it.

But they will be paying for it with "our tax dollars at work." Thanks JokeDOT...

Nice to meet everyone at PicnicBlog.

i happened to be on 376 east today as well. what a shitshow. hit 376 east at 1:30. took me until 5:30 to to reach homestead/squirrel hill exit, when i just decided to turn around and go back home to the south hills. massive waste of time, not to mention gas.

Wow, Pittsburgh traffic is a pile of suck. Who ever invested in orange barrels must be a millionaire thanks to PENNDOT.

Although I can't say I travel on 376, I am part of the unfortunate people who had boulders falling off of 28 onto us...

a few years back, probably about 5 years or so, my best friend's dad owned a web company. it later failed like most dotcoms. but before they failed, one of her dad's coworkers, adam made a website called penndotsucks.com and it was all about the failure that is Penndot. he dressed up in funny outfits and would talk to and hand out bumper stickers to people while they were sitting in traffic. i still have a crapload of those somewhere in my house. it was a pretty funny thing going on in the burgh for a while, he made the local news and random people in the burgh would know about it.. adam needs to start that up again

"We tried to warn people. In the press release this week, I put in there, expect extensive delays – because - same thing last year when we had to narrow down traffic in the city limits - you had extensive back-ups like you're having today," said Jim Struzzi, a PennDOT spokesperson. "Unfortunately, everyone doesn't get the message."

I tried to warn Jim Struzzi. On a notepad on my desk somewhere, I put in there, expect my fist to drill Jim Struzzi right in the face.

---

Really, what Struzzi is saying is that use this and every other driving experience you've had as official warning to avoid PenisDOT maintained roads altogether. Forever. Drive across people's lawns.

my thoughts exactly!!

somewhere on my rules of life list:
avoid the parkway east like the plague EVERY weekend. i don't pay attention to whether there is construction or not, i just play the odds and avoid it anyways (and chances are, there is construction happening).

Would it be so hard to do this construction at night? That's what they do for a lot of construction around Washington (DC, not Pennsylvania) and down the I-95 corridor into Virginia. It'll back traffic all to hell anyway -- having five million people in an area where the infrastructure is built to accommodate maybe half that number will do that -- but at least it's the overnight traffic.

Do your road work 9 PM-5 AM. It's not that difficult, people.

And you have my condolences. I've sat in a lot of Washington-area traffic in my time. It gets to the point where if you want to go anywhere between 3 and 8 PM you better hope your destination is Metro-accessible, because you won't get there in any reasonable time frame otherwise.

Ah, yes...

It's a fine wet Summer/Fall day here in Cleveland...

Where Browns fans are out early and in droves.

High hopes for the new football season.

Fans high-fiving, packing the local store for beer, pretzel's and such.

And I...

Lonely I standing in my big bright yellow Stillers hoodie waving one big middle finger to the lot of 'em.

It's a good feeling.

(sorry, but until hockey starts I have to enjoy this)

@ pops: A good portion of construction does happen at night. In Washington (PA), too! Ha ha.

no no no. monroeville has guitar center (the only place i know of to go to lol) a shitty ZOMBIE infested mall and the place i work at. and chic fil a.

one hour to go and I need to find a place to watch the Steelers game. My hotel's bandwidth is pathetic; slightly faster than dialup, it can barely handle a 45 second youtube video. There's a Fridays and a Dave and Busters down the road from me, so I'm hoping that they have something aside from Teh Brett Favre Lovefest on the tube.

Ugh, wish me luck.

RE: Pitt hoops.

First off, I can't wait either, especially since the buzz is that they're expected to start the reason ranked somewhere in the top 10 in the country.

I have yet to get to a game at the Pete, but I know tickets were available for a lot of the non-Big East games last season. You might be sitting a little higher up than you might like, but the tickets should be available.

There's a guy I work with who has two season tickets, and he's told me that whenever he can't go to games, he'll let me know. Last year, he went to every game, so I didn't get a chance to get his tickets. He does the same thing with his Pitt football tickets (which I have taken him up on in the past) and he usually lets me know a week or so in advance when he can't go. As long as he gives me enough notice for hoops, I'll give you the heads-up if he has any tickets.

Hate to rain on you guys' PDOT parade, but people bitch about their respective DOT's all over the country. Sad, but true. Where I live in Virginia, we complain about VDOT all the time.

Although I will say, when I come back north to visit the family, I know exactly when I get in Pennsylvania, when I start hitting all the potholes....

Stoosh, I would love you forever.
and THAT'S why I'm committed. haha

And I was reading about their top-ten ranking as well. That would be so boss if they went all the way, but I'm not jinxing it. haha. I don't know about all the new recruits yet and how they play, but they've still got Fields (who did phenom in the playoffs), Blair, Brown, Biggs, and Young (who also did very well in the playoffs).

UUUUUUUUGH, I'm getting blue(and gold) baaaaaaaalls.

Well, back to the game.

22 East going into murrysville has been under construction for my entire life. You'd think that at SOME POINT they might finish it.

As for 376E I've been dealing with that fucking construction ALL SUMMER. And last year, and the year before that. Honestly, you'd think the shit would finish up at some point. I'm so fucking exhausted of taking alternate routes to get out of downtown.

UGH.
