I'll give you that before NHL 08 the two games were comparable. After the totally redone EA game for 08 there's no question which one is better. 09' will/is be better than the dark knight.

Unfortunately you can't play over the net either, so I think I will finally take the jump into the modern gaming era and get nhl 09 where my favorite team should again have a reasonably strong chance to stomp everyone else.
Now the only question is what platform? This will primarily be for EA hockey but other than that xbox seems to have a more interesting array of games to me. PS3 seems to be all about potential. What do yinz think?

How does one go about joining said Facebook group?
I'm going to be buying a console something within the next week or two, just not sure which one.
anyone else want to pick a position and a jersey #? None of this means anything but it would be cool to have all that done in one place. I'll make the format nicer in excel if the team leader(s) want that. I know the odds of all of us being available at the same time are slim, so someone may need to play a position they're not comfortable with. The league sounds like a great idea but EA can suck it.
They put out a slightly shittier version of Madden every year with no real changes because there is no competition (for NFL games). I believe the NFL gave them exclusive rights to make the games. 2k Sports makes better games with better controls.If EA ever buysout 2k's contract for NHL games kiss any improvements good bye for future games. If it were up to them they would shit and expect you to eat it with a grin because they're doing you some sort of favor?

fair warning, i'm an asshole in online games, entertaining sure, but i'm still an asshole.
except that hockey still has competition form 2K, therefore this year's game should be an upgrade to keep up with the times, unlike madden which admittedly sucks. I don't care about what happens in the future, all we know is that this years version has a cool new feature, that will unite pensblog gamers in a non-Charlie approved manner. The only thing that matters is that this game will be balls and ovaries above 2K, if 2k goes away and EA stops making it better, then you would have all the reason to stop buying it. Not buying NHL09 this year because Madden sucks is nonsensical.

"let me list you these "minor tweaks"
1) added quite a handful of new goalie saves and not one has been out of place. I had a 2 on 1 crosby made a pass to the other pen and he took a quick shot against the grain, and the goalie just sprawled desperation style. Beautiful! stack the pads are also in.
2) better board physics- remember last year no matter the angle the puck hit the boards, the puck would just slide along. hard to describe without a video, but many more possibilities with this in. You can definitely do bank passes with this in.
another example of how this "small tweak" added another dimension to offense. Took a quick wrist shot from low left slot circle wide, puck caromed hard off the boards behind the net and it ricocheted directly to a guy on the other side of the slot ( right slot) and took a shot to a semi open net that was blocked by a d-man. o the possibilities.
3) backhanders are weaker.....remember last year when backhanders had the same force as forehand wristers? not anymore.....
4) more sticks in the passing lanes which will lower pass accuracy, create more chaotic hockey and is a pure joy now to actually defend. On the flip side, it is harder to penetrate the defense this year, as they are constantly looking to knock the puck away with their sticks. you can really feel the diference. BTW i played on superstar last year, and defense on 09 all star is a tougher challenge, more realistic challenge. it's hella harder to skate along the slot and just take wrist shots....
5) rebound control by the goalies are definitely more organic. Look for more garbage goals this year....very nice. just got scored on a goal like this.
6) shooting is contextual....
if you're in a better position bodywise ur shots will be that much crisper."
