Penguin Ratings In NHL 09

Thanks to everyone that sent these in.

Here are the ratings for the Penguins in NHL 09:

[Picture+7.png]

[Puck Daddy] pointed some things out.

How is Crosby's slapshot more powerful than Malkin's?

:::::::::::

[IGN] has all the teams.

This game is going to be very hard on our blogging.

Sid's slapshot is more accurate than Geno's, not more powerful. The F*@& You! slapshot is wicked I hear.

ugh it always takes me a while to figure out there was a new post, so here we go again

i'm a week late on this question, anyone go to the music festival this past weekend in the southside? i missed it cause of vacation unfortunately.

There aren't any overall ratings, because AI adjustments can change them. The first column is Offensive Awareness.

For those who are interested, there are some solid new updates on the new arena. I don't think they've been posted before (I think they are new today).

New Arena Fly Through Video.

New Images (They are also in the video).

Enjoy.

Also, they made a good call by having the Buries It banner in the video.

sh0ez said...

@ dan : Screw that festival. Too AE, no care.

Dan said...

AE makes talls, they are ok in my book. i'd be going for the music anyway, and there were a few bands there i really wanted to see.

i guess taffe and pesonen are going to be in WBS to start the game

richmond is some guy from WBS, but i guess NHL 09 can predict the future and they see him making the team

the biggest thing they got wrong was rating eaton as a 70 in shot blocking.

e.mirchich said...

@dan

how exactly would you propose charlie and sid work together to up the white population? now that's some weird science.

Dan said...

some dude just had a baby; therefore, it can no longer be ruled out.

Danny Richmond is the jobber that we acquired for Tim Brent. If I remember right, he was compared to Micki Dupont but liked to drop the gloves. As deep as the Pens are on D, his chances of seeing ice time with the big club are minimal.

How will we remember the Tim Brent era?

Dan said...

the same way we remember the kris beech era

Victor Raison said...

Groundbreaking is such a pointless ceremony. Especially when they just dump a pile of dirt there to put the shovels into.

Too bad they couldn't break enough ground for a six-foot hole to put Rendell into.

"66 buries him."

Jonny Van Mundegaarde said...

Jefe, my thoughts on the whole white population issue is summed up by the first two minutes of that Mike Judge movie, Idiocracy. This country's collective IQ is going to be going down the shitter the next 50 years.

Dan, i was down williamsburg and missed it too, there was a review of it in the post-gazette, he basically said Dylan was a disappointment (the author even said he was a huge Dylan fan), but The Raconteurs and Gnarls Barkley rocked the place. But there were people who took exception to his review:

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08227/904044-42.stm

And wow, this morning I said that Onorato and Kid Luke da mayor would need cropped out of the picture of Buries It, and I was right. They all should have thrown their dirt on Rendell.

IHK, I hope that video was done in jest, because he comes off like a huge douchebag in it. And funny when they talk about him not meeting any American girls, they show a huge girl in a Texas A&M football jersey. "I say hello, they say hey, next thing you know they say rape." Poor Ovie.

from the Trib:
Mario Lemieux said the Penguins were never serious about leaving Pittsburgh.

"It wasn't a possibility," Lemieux said during a groundbreaking ceremony today for Pittsburgh's new $290 million hockey arena.

"We had to do a few things to put pressure on the city and the state, but our goal was to remain here in Pittsburgh all the way. Those trips to Kansas City and Vegas and other cities was just to go, and have a nice dinner and come back."

During 18 months of tense negotiations in 2006 and 2007, the Penguins threatened to leave Pittsburgh if city, county and state politicians didn't find a way to help pay for a new arena. Lemieux and fellow majority co-owner Ron Burkle traveled to Kansas City and Las Vegas in the weeks before an arena financing deal was reached in March 2007.

But Lemieux said the Penguins used the visits as a sure-fire negotiating tactic.

"(Pressure) was felt, and that was the important thing. A lot of things happened throughout the negotiations. Ups and downs. That was just a way for us to put more pressure, and we knew it would work at the end of the day," Lemieux said.

Paul McGannon, president of NHL21, a Kansas City fan group that courted the Penguins, said he doesn't fault Lemieux's methods.

"I'm glad that it helped Pittsburgh get their new building," said McGannon, whose group is still trying to attract an NHL franchise to Kansas City.

"If it was a negotiating tactic it was a good one," said Chuck Ardo, spokesman for Gov. Ed Rendell. "We're just pleased that the Penguins are in Pittsburghwhere they belong. As to how real the possibility of their moving was, I think it is a matter of history."

City Councilwoman Tonya Payne, who represents the Hill District, said Lemieux's revelation shocked her.

"Every indication pointed to that they were serious about moving," Payne said. "I know that scared the hell out of the governor, the mayor and (Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato). It got them in gear."

Penguins CEO Ken Sawyer said replacing Mellon Arena -- the oldest venue in the National Hockey League -- will make the Penguins more competitive.

"A new arena means we're here, in Pittsburgh, forever," Sawyer said. "It also means that we're going to have the resources, finally, to be competitive every year."

The 18,000-seat building is slated to open in time for the Penguins 2010-11 season.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Rendell said the arena project would not have happened without legalized gambling in Pennsylvania. Gambling revenues are paying a large portion of the costs, including $7.5 million a year for 30 years that's expected to come from Pittsburgh's lone slots casino.

"Let the record show that we wouldn't be here today without expanded gaming," Rendell said. "Without that money, we're not here today; it's as simple as that."

Lemieux and team President David Morehouse joined Rendell, Onorato and Mayor Luke Ravenstahl at the ceremony.

Onorato said he expects the arena to usher in "another renaissance" of economic development Downtown and in the Hill District.

"This is great news for southwestern Pennsylvania," Onorato said.

Stoosh said...

@ Brndlynn -

I remember them once saying the same thing about Jordan, Tiger Woods and Nolan Ryan.

Basically, part of the reason these three are/were so dominant in their respective sports is that their bodies were each physically tailored to allow them to perform at elite and almost ungodly levels.

Jordan? Definitely. He was big for a guard, so it was tough for smaller guards to match up with him, but he was still small enough to retain the speed a guard needs to beat someone off the dribble.

Ryan? Dude was 42 when he struck out 301 batters in 1989. At 43 and 44, he still struck out 232 and 203 batters respectively. His arm might have been built perfectly to suit his body frame.

Tiger? I'm less inclined to believe his talent is a product of physics because there's footage out there of him driving the ball to like 150 or 200 yards when he was like six years old.

I was a competitive gymnast growing up, and I can't figure out what the fuck they're doing. The best way to describe the scoring is "erratic." Under the old system I could pinpoint a score within a few hundredths of a point, now I've got no idea.

The women's judging bias doesn't seem to be as bad as the men's was - in the men's team final it appeared that there was a full point bonus for being Chinese. Talk about home field advantage. Tonight it's just all over the place in general.

i've never understood some of the gymnist scoring. i remember back in atlanta (i think!) where russia's svetlana got a gold in something where she didn't really deserve it over a few romanians. the announcers were confused by it as well, but basically said its cause of who she is.

The Chinese girl is good, but I really don't think she deserves to win.

i jusr want to give this lil chinese girl a steak or something. I know all gymnasts are skinny but im afraid she's going to break if she lands too hard.

each time I see pensgirl say I was a competitive gymnast growing up

reminds me of the SNL skits with Tracy Morgan playing Starr Jones quipping: 'I'm Starr Jones. I am a law-yah'

good stuff pensgirl, good stuff!

Shelly Anderson wrote this really interesting article on the Post-Gazette's website the other day about how creepy the atmosphere is at the Games because the Chinese seem so obsessed with creating the right image.

stuff it judges! go commies coming to the US!

Amazing job by the gymnasts. Unreal, especially in light of what looked to be some fairly generous and inconsistent scoring on the parts of the judges.

How in the hell has ER lasted all these years? I had friends in college that watched that show religiously. That was more than 10 years ago and the show was starting to get old then.

maybe she's resting up then, eh?

are the Buccos gonna get this Alvarez & Scheppers signed before midnight?

Looking @ that 6th round pick, Grossman and MLB peeps comparing him to Lenny 'Nails' Dykstra is a good thing. [minus all of Lennys steroid use {alledgely}]

speaking of Lenny Dykstra, he bought Gretzky's old pad.

Guess his car wash business is doing pretty well.

Signing 20 of 30 picks [so far] is a good start for the new regime.

@ jon - i was watching the steelers game until I turned it over to see Phelps qualify and gymnastics. i must have missed it :(

Staff, you should probably sign Bela before the season starts.

Stoosh, my officemate was saying the other day about how she was creeped out by the cheer squads they hired...she thought they looked like a computer program, clapping their batons in a flat, weird, unison way.

They'll get Alvarez. Every expert I've read from Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus (whose opinions on this stuff I'd trust 100,000 times more than that twerp Tim Kurkjian) have said Alvarez will sign, and they haven't even addressed the possibility that he wouldn't. And the price will come down on him as well. Buster Posey - who was expected to be among the highest-ticket draftees - signed with the Giants for about $3-4 million less than what he was allegedly asking. Alvarez will probably come in around that same level.

Outside of Alvarez, the three remaining that I'd love to see them sign are Scheppers (who I think they'll get), 10th-round pick Andrew Gagnon and 26th-round pick Zachary Wilson. I don't expect them to get either Gagnon or Wilson. They're both high school kids, for one thing. Gagnon has a scholarship to Long Beach State. Wilson has a full ride to Arizona State and he's also a Boras client. They both would be better served going to college and then re-entering the draft in a couple of years.

Getting Grossman and Justin Wilson into the fold was a big deal. Grossman could really be a good one. If they come out of this having locked up Alvarez, Scheppers, Wilson and Grossman, that'll be an incredible draft for them.

I don't care what people say about the Olympics anymore, I get chills watching these athletes and when the national anthem comes on ... Jim Rome has no idea what he's talking about (not that he usually does) ...

Just for the b-day boy (gonna be hard to copy this all because it's not online ... lameblog ... also sorry for any grammatical errors):

"Dropping The Gloves: Pens Prospect Luca Caputi
By Alex Nseir

After losing several prominent forwards to fre agency, the Penguins may look to prospects like Luca Caputi, a 6'2", 184 lb. left wing, chosen in the 4th round of the 2007 NHL Draft. The Pens signed Caputi to a 3-yr. deal enry level contract this April before he played in 19 play-off games for the WBS Baby Pens, recording 4 goals and 4 assists. Caputi scored 51 goals and 60 assists last season for the OHL's Niagara Icedogs. PSR's Alex Nseir sat down w/ Caputi during Pens' prospect camp.

PSR: Did you expect you would be at this pt. in your career so soon?

Caputi:If you asked me after the Draft last yr. I think that was a goal of mine; whether or not I acheived it was really up to me. I didn't think that I was going to have the season I did, to tell you the truth, but I guess that's a testimony to how much I learned when I was here, how I took it back w/me and played throughout the year.

PSR: How did your game change over the past season?

Caputi: I think it was just being more comfortable and more confident w/my game and playing pretty much the same way every night. It's all about making the simple plays and doing the same things every night that makes you successful and I think I did that for the most part.

PSR: How do you feel about joining a young team that many people think is going to be competitive for a long time?

Caputi: I'm just happy to be in an organization that is on the rise and is going in the right direction. It's really thrilling and hopefully I can be a part of it.

PSR: What about possibly playing w/Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin?

LC: I can't even begin to tell you how excied I would be to even be in the same room as guys like that. Coming into camp I said I had a lot to prove and that this was a huge summer for me and I'm just going to try to work hard and make it as hard as possible for them to send me to Wilkes-Barre next year.

PSR: How will you train this summer?

LC: I feel I need to be bigger, stronger, and faster in order to play at the next level and I'm going to really focus on that this summer. I want to get quicker, try and build some upper body strength so that I don't get pushed around and just overall get stronger.

PSR: Who are your hockey idols?

LC: I used used to always like Doug Gilmour growing up as a kid. He's probably my favorite player of all time. He was a guy that played hard every night, played for the crest on the front of the jersey, and that's what I want to do.

PSR: Is there any play after whom you model your game?

LC: I would probably want to play more like a Ryan Malone type of game - good along the walls, good in the corners, make offensive plays, play sound defense.

*tears up* I think I like you, Caputi ... you are going to be a fav. of mine now *smiles* Damn, they know how to get me to like them, mention a fav. player of mine they want to play like and I'm there for them ... *laughs*

1-2 ceremony was Lochte gold and silver for Peirsol ... Lochte would be considered the best swimmer in the world if it wasn't for Phelps ... I'm glad he got gold even if he beat out my fav. Peirsol (him and Phelps are practically tied)
