The winners of the photoshop contest that made us believe that maybe Gary Bettman could save the world, [ or at least the Jews ], is over at [ Puck Daddy ].

Our own Stephen S. brought home the silver medal.

Absolutely clutch.

No word if he wins G-Dubs old Barbara Streisand album collection or a coupon code for 15% off his next purchase at Bath, Body and Beyond.

Imagine that, a liar in Detroit.

Game #42

[Rock Out With Your Conk Out. PENS WIN.]
[pit.<span class=
3 - 1

You know things are going well when the only time you get disappointed is when Ty Conklin gives up a meaningless goal to snap his shutout-minutes streak.

That's where we are right now.

And it feels good.

For whatever reason, Vokoun looked like he was popping pills before the game.

As the first period snoozed to the intermission, Conk survived a scare when a puck caromed off the boards, through his legs, and chilled in the crease.
No big deal.

Solid road period.

Several Panthers fans leave after rumors of a Matlock marathon spread throughout the arena.

Picture: Matlock is all smiles after making a joke that only people older than 65 understand.

If you weren't awake yet...

Sid gets a breakout pass from Malone, takes over the world, goes far side on Vokoun.
The Pens fans in attendance let out a bellowing roar.

[ The defense on this play was embarrassing. ]

The Pens had their precarious 2-0 lead again. Nothing funny about that.

Oh, wait, it is funny.
Cause Taffe-Laraque-Hall complement their solid play from the whole game with a goal, as BGL picks up the trash.

Stanley C. Panther = Stunned

Some dude gets the puck.

With the score 3-1, things could have gotten scary.
But if Florida would have come back, we would've stopped watching hockey forever.

Malkin and Bing run out the clock.

[Michael W]

"Pittsburgh has a great team, great people, great organization. I had to compare the two teams, and there's a little better chance to win the Cup in Detroit. I had a great time with Sid and playing on the power play with Geno [Evgeni Malkin], but the team in Detroit is something special. I know it's a short term, but we never talked about a one-year [deal] with Pittsburgh. We just talked about a long-term deal. I totally believe Detroit has the kind of team that can win it again."

didnt have a chance to post on the previous post - the motivational posters were hilarious. I loved "Sellout", "Legacy" and "Class" - great job guys.

Congrats to Stephen S for the second place.

The Don Cherry/Conk Streaker/Charlie ps is incredible. Ive been looking forward to seeing that one in the recaps for weeks.

I hardly ever post here, but enjoy reading. For some reason, my absolute favorite thing is when someone posts "First!" - but they're actually second.

I don't know why, but it's funny every time.

Sweet, I was at that game. And I think it was before I had heard of the Pensblog, or at least followed it regularly. Clearly, I was missing out.

And Kwame Kilpatrick's wiki page reads like he's the mayor of Vice City or something.

there is something oddly attractive about the naked dude with Conks' head streaking over the glass.

the video of Kwame Half Irish introducing the Red Wings for the SC parade is just priceless. easily one of the worst displays of public anything I've ever seen.

I got selected today as best answer on Yahoo Answers by jobbing Pittsburgh South. Tampa Bay Jobs never get old.

Q: How do I keep winding up in Mental Health and R&S?
A: Did Oren Koules and Len Barrie try to sign you to a team without any defense and with a joke for a coach?

That might be one reason.

This was the game where Mikey and the ol' 29er went from saying about Conkblock, "He doesn't know where the puck is!!" (during his first Boston start) to, upon learning Marty Brodeur was working on a shutout earlier the same night, "Who does he think he is -- Ty Conklin??" XD

I will love that goalie till the night he shuts us out in the Finals next year.

Maybe even then. (Hopefully, much like with the Winter Classic, the shutout part will come after the other team has traumatized Elroy all the way to the bench.)

Having been on vacation myself, it was pretty damn awesome to come back and see myself in WITS. I was proud of that quote.

@JS> I think the Rex one is my favorite.... it seems so true. So very true.

And yes, I can spend hours on Yahoo Answers when I actually go to answer and then just have to wonder which direction the world is going because of the vast stupidity of some of the people on there.

@Stephen S > Your entry for that contest is just sick. Good job there. Honestly, if somebody didn't know what it was for, I wonder if anybody would notice that Bettman was even in there... He just blends with the crowd, it's cool.

J.S. said...

lmao, nice.

I roll with a Chimo stick, Gretzky-style Jofa helmet, and Micron skates. How's that for 1992?

Max Power said...

I've never received so many concussions as I did in a Joffa helmet. Graff skates with the Tuuk extra curved blades and the Paul Coffey Sherwood. You could go fishing with the curve on those. All this memory lane business is going to make me bust out a pair of skidz, a hypercolor tshirt and a pair of rebok pumps.

Jonny, you might want to lower the number of anti-Steelers comments by about 10. I'll be at the game in the open end zone. Hooray for free tix, although otherwise I would have been participating in drinkingblog tonight. Actually, most of my Steelers jobbing is mainly directed at Interceptionberger. If I get back early enough, I'll do my best to at least raise the total by two or three if they deserve it.

And I was eating cookies at the time. If I had not been busy multitasking, I would have been first.

Sick jersey. I have a Jags captain jersey in the 97' black alternate. I have a Lemieux in the 93' like in the pic. I'm not a big fan of the diagonal lettering for any team but it's passable if it's Lemieux and the pens.

I noticed today at lunch that the zubaz-wearing, Aqua Net using, Roethlisberger-wearing yinzer crowd was out in full force. That can only mean one thing: it's football season in Pittsburgh.

I wore a lot of bad things in my day (including Hypercolor), but I will always be able to hold onto the fact that I have never, ever put on a pair of zubaz.

The Detroit mayor situation is utter hilarity. Our mayor may be 12 years old, and he may sneak into Tiger Woods golf outings, but at least he's not a felon.

I never owned Hyper-Color, Zubaz, or Skidz (and they were all very popular in my school). I could never find them at my Gabriel Brother's, so I sat at the edge of fashion in my days. All my money went to more important things, like G.I. Joes, sports cards, and Nintendo games.

I'll take loud yinzers over New Jersey-type guidos any day.
