2008-2009 Penguins Schedule

So, there you have it.

HOME STANDS
4 games in October
5 games in January (interrupted by all-star game)
4 games in February
8 games in March/April. Jesus.

ROAD TRIPS
5 games in February/March

Unlike the NFL, where people take a day off work to talk about 16 games,
the 82-game NHL schedule was released on Thursday, and nobody did a half-hour show about it.

The Pens start off in Sweden.
They'll get almost a week off to recuperate from the travel.

November 11 is a date that is circled on every Pens fan's calendar. Good times.
That 1:00 Vancouver game is what the new schedule is all about.

The dog days of Winter will hit when December rolls around.
14 games in 28 days.
December 23 -- Malone, Roberts, Recchi, Hall at the Mellon.

They'll have a home-and-home with Boston, culminating with a New Year's Evening game.

February looks to be good times.
February 8 -- Hossa makes his return on most likely an NBC game.

The Pens will have an unheard-of 8-game home stand in March.
How pivotal will that be.
Not to mention, we may need a win in Montreal on the final day of the season to get in the dance.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Hopefully, the games circled in green caught your attention.
Those games are gonna be road-trip city.
We're going to gun for Chicago, and if that doesn't pan out, we'll get Columbus.

The Chicago plan would be ideal, since it's on a Friday night.
It will allow you to explore Chicago on Saturday, which is the kicker for us.

We wouldn't mind organizing a group of 20 or so people
to chip in for a group plan or whatev for that game.

It's a 7-hour, 30-minute trek to Chicago. About 475 miles.

At 20 miles to the gallon with $4.00 gas, it will cost roughly $200 round-trip.
4 people to a car -- $50 for gas.

The best gauge we could find for ticket prices was this [ Bleacher Report article ].
We definitely won't have to break the bank for this.

Putting about $200 or so on retainer sounds like a safe bet.

If hockey-hungry Chicago fans jump at tickets for the Crosby Show,
then Columbus is the next best thing, on March 12.

Details on how we're gonna string all this together
will come as the season draws nearer and tickets go on sale.

We're putting a call into the United Center in the next few days to check things out.

That's awesome.

Forgive me for my ignorance, but why is Columbus circled?

or why is Chicago circled in Green?

Rick M. said...

Chicago is likely circled because it's going to be an awesome game between two young teams.

Good deal

PS - stephen is awesome, that graphic is sick

Chicago and Columbus could be circled because of possible road trips? My best guess.

Awesome job, Staff. Rock on!

I'm suprised Charlie didn't make a rainbow circle around March 1 vs the Stars to commemorate the gayness of Avery.

I'm more than likely going to attend the game in Columbus. I've been wanting to check out the Nationwide Arena for some time. I'll be living in Ohio for this coming school year and cannot wait to be one of the bastard fans cheering for the away team.

That was weird ...

I'm feeling weird about playing TB but otherwise ready for the season.

I'm hoping someone breaks Kronvall's nose ...

And Zetterberg getting his ass whooped by Sid would look nice ...

Also, I'm excited for the Chicago games ... I like Toews and Kane, Toews more than Kane, but they remind me of the Sid and Malkin deal we got going here, except Geno and Sid have more talent ...

A C-blog roadtrip to Chicago or Columbus would be a blast of epic proportions. Could you imagine renting a jobber tour bus for this?

Christine and I talked about heading to Washington for a game, but Chicago or Columbus would be even better.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

I want to see the Rangers play Dallas badly now ... the Rangers can finally show their anger towards him ... maybe they'll let the back-up goalie start so he can give him the nice "How ya do?" with his stick ... that will be a funny game ...

Calendar = WOW!

OK, really going to bed tis time. Good night to all of you...prospects of a C-blog roadie to Chicago are going to make it tough to sleep tonight.

We'll, maybe it's only me that refers to it as The Whitney Draft...I think my wife refers to it as: whatev.[hands on hips and a huge eye-roll]

That draft was AWESOME...not just because of the Whit..but all the happenings that surrounded the event.

Three of us headed up there: A buddy, my bro, and myself...all piled into my bro's 3 week old Toyota Celica...now, we aren't exactly petite in any regard...I'm the smallest of the bunch at 6'0" - 215 lbs [Dan Patrick show *DING*]...my bro insists that I drive...OK...no problemo....

the problems start:
•right outside Buffalo near the HSBC Arena...a truck about 40 yards in front of us runs over a pallet on the road and sends it flying thru the air while it breaks into a million pieces. Using my Mario Andretti skills [HA!] we only get clipped a bit in the driver side mirror.

•almost get t-boned in Niagara Falls by someone running a red light while we were looking for a place to park to go to the casino.

•we get to the border and my bro is crammed in the back seat worse off than any sardine ever was. The customs guy gives us the usual BS and we tell him we're going to the draft. 'Who ya going to see?', he asks. 'No one in particular. Just going to go.'
'Just going to go, eh?' For some reason, he didn't like that answer and we had the vehicle searched.

•stoosh is 100% balls-on about the driving....I thought I was playing a real life version of Spy Hunter and was waiting to get bumped off the QEW from someone two lanes over!...sorry, Carroll...you Canucks are nutso behind the wheel!

•We stayed up near the old Maple Leaf Gardens...which is smack in the middle of Queerville, Toronto. Wasn't a very pleasant experience as my brother was openly and constantly getting hit on by 'the locals'...I told him he should be flattered...He didn't think it was very funny.

•Had his antenna stolen.

•Was in a bar shooting pool when we saw what we thought was a protest going down the main drag, Younge St....We went to see what was going on...and it was hundreds...maybe 1,000 Turkish Soccer Fans celebrating a victory in the World Cup. It was absolutely NUTS!!!!...

•In a drunken stupor, I stole an antenna from a Celica to replace my brothers...tit for tat, eh?....

•met Pens draft pick, Daniel Fernholm in the HHOF...said some stuff to him about autographing my HHOF book and he gave me looks as if I was talking to him in Chinese.

not a bad 72 hour trip!

dr t "•stoosh is 100% balls-on about the driving....I thought I was playing a real life version of Spy Hunter and was waiting to get bumped off the QEW from someone two lanes over!...sorry, Carroll...you Canucks are nutso behind the wheel"

For the record, Toronto drivers have their own way of driving. I will never say they are good drivers, more like interesting drivers.

People from other cities are afraid to drive there. It all depends on what you are used to. People in Ottawa think we have bad rush hour, I have to laugh at that. In Toronto you can have upto 10 lanes going in one direction and still be parked. Like I said it all depends on what you are used to. My mom won't even drive "into the city" anymore and she had lived in and around Toronto her whole life.

...I can't remember who they beat or what round....but it was INSANE [and I admit was a bit nervous until we figured out what was going on!]
These peeps just appeared out of NOWHERE...but, there was no looting, no burning cars...it was 'peaceful' & CRAZY at the same time!

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@Dr. Turk: Hahaha! How dare your wife not share your love of Whit! *smiles* JK.

BTW: This might get a few yells from the c-bloggers at TDKblog but ... definitely fits their description ... *smirks* Why so serious, TDKBlog c-bloggers? *Joker laugh*

I'm heading off, I have to finish my last business ad and this damn paper!! Guten Nacht, meine C-Bloggers!

penstone....

hahahaha...I got it from the PG website so.....who knows? It MIGHT be them [I know it's not because of the caption]...I hope someone does post pics, though.

carroll....

I don't mind fast driving, as I like to lead foot it a bit...[survivor of California & Boston crazies] but driving like you're on acid pisses me off. It was raining so hard, it was tough to see...yet, these peeps didn't slow down a km/hr [like that?]

I think I'm going to go look for a shamWow! infomercial.

nite yinz guys!

Carroll said...

nice pic dr t.

In Toronto people of all cultures celebrate anything/everything especially the Italians and their soccer.

You should know not to go anywhere near Church Street, unless you are looking for a date of the Charlie variety. Next time you should visit during Gay Pride week. Torontos celebration is much better then Ottawa's (I know you are all surprised by that).

Carroll said...

dr t - thanks for the km/hr reference, I do appreciate it.
