PollBlog

We have gotten some emails asking us if we are doing another wristband sale.
We aren't sure.

To use Roberts is more of a mindset, and even though he won't play for the Pens again, his legend is secure.

For others they might not feel the same way.
And that is more than understandable.

So we'll throw it out to everyone.

The majority speaks.
If it is yes, we'll start taking orders tomorrow.
If no, maybe someone will come up with something else.

Go Pens

Dammit... the time the comments section loaded... and there's a comment... i'll settle for a close second...

My brother really wants a wristband, so I say do it.

blackngold1125 said...

Hmmmmm.....quite a choice. Its kinda rubbing salt into a wound. Maybe a new wristband

Matt Betush said...

i agree w/ blackngold

I'd hate to overdo the wristband idea, bc it worked so well for WWGRD. But i would be a huge proponent of a new wristband, maybe doing a new one every season. I'd wear a "free candy" one for orpik, or maybe a "66 buries it". Just a thought

penstone410 said...

the only reason im voting yes is because i missed the first wave and would love to have a momento of the season..
i'm up for new ones as well but being a fairly newcomer to tPB (and i'm sure there are others out there that missed the first..) i would love to have something to remember GR by..

coffeytalk said...

I would put a hold on making a new wrist band. I think wwgrd should be left alone for awhile.

We still have Storeblog and a whole new season to come up with the next big thing.

shawnawwwesome said...

No. New. Wristbands.

brndlynn said...

its a really close vote so far. i would be more likely to buy a buries it or free candy wrist band but ... if a WWGRD sale happens again I would end up buying one. \

Ali said...

Yep -- I think a new writeband would be a sweet idea...

However, I agree with the person who suggested waiting a little bit, but you know, whatever happens, I'll probably end up buying. :)

thanks for your work blogging here! I always look forward to reading! GO PENS!

penstone410 said...

i meant to say i am NOT up for new ones.. (me=FAIL)
i'd just like to reiterate that having one last wwgrd sale would be greatly appreciated to those who (very sadly, admittedly) missed the first..

shawnawwwesome said...

On second thought, I don't wear jewelry so do whatever you want.

Ian said...

I voted no because I'd rather see something new...a sign that we are moving on and looking forward to the upcoming season as opposed to looking back on what might have been this past season.

Pensblog Staff said...

Yea you won't be seeing new wristbands likely ever.

WWGRD was once in a lifetime.

If the vote is close, chances are we won't do it.

This poll is us trying to clean our hands of it...

woooooooooo

coffeytalk said...

Well if Ho$$a remains a penguin, there should be Pensblog Sombreros.

Do it. (hopefully)

Julia said...

I vote no to having another batch of WWGRD wrist bands. If you have one it and wearing it it's like ohhh they read tPB for a long time now.. idk maybe I'm just being greedy, I think that's it.

Pensblog Staff said...

looks like we will be sending WWGRD to the rafters

coffeytalk said...

staff-

it's a shame, but hey whatev. i plan on wearing mine until it falls off of me. at least you guys got in 2 great rounds of them and have given us fans a great keepsake.

woo.

PittHockey said...

I say wait until the season (or preseason at least to see who's on the team) starts to see who deserves a wristband in their honor.

Pensblog Staff said...

woooooooooo

hockeyfan0012 said...

I say no more WWGRD, but we should copyright it so no bastards at any other hockey blog copies us. Or not. Who cares.

Maybe we can come up with another saying to put on them (or an old one like free candy), but not get rid of the whole thing itself.

Just my 2 cents

PittHockey said...

I'd definitely be in for a Ho$$a sombrero should he resign. hahaha

PittHockey said...

pensblog definitely needs to copyright WWGRD so his next project team doesn't rip it off.

coffeytalk said...

It's totally a cheap move to find some other phrase and slap it on a wristband. wwgrd is a special thing and just coming up with new wristband ideas would ruin it.

penstone410 said...

The last two nights have found HBO's George Carlin tribute on the television. I can't make it from one show to the next without:

1. wishing he was still around to do more shows and

2. getting pissed off that he's gone and we're still left with Carlos Mencia, Larry the Cable Guy and Dane Fucking Cook.

On top of that, I just saw the commercial for "Stepbrothers", which is something like the 10,203rd movie that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have made recycling the same characters.

Chubs said...

Yikes, bizarro BNG!

I vote no on wristbands, yes on putting it to the rafters. (Stephen S.- perhaps create a tPb HOF? Or something?). Coffeytalk, I'm with you on retiring the idea too- these things work best when they come out of nowhere, not pre-planned.

From last post- I'm glad I'm not the only one, I just never saw anyone bring Doop up as staying at all...didn't know if I was crazy.

JYo said...

Yea you won't be seeing new wristbands likely ever.

WWGRD was once in a lifetime.

I couldn't be happier to hear that. Any new ones would cheapen the concept. It wasn't for the sake of making a wristband it was the strength of the idea of the parity (JC rocking the WWGRD wristband) that even made any wristband make sense at all.

Welcome new BNG. I'd imagine a lot of folks around here have used a similar screen name around the Gore. I know I have in the past.

at first i thought it was WWGRD or another type of wristband but im glad the only other alternative is retiring them. i think that was brought up a few cblogs ago and compared to retiring #'s. I hope Stephen S can come up with something to illustrate it.

episode 521 - My Fallen Idol

from wiki:
Feeling guilty over the deaths of three patients, Dr. Cox comes to work drunk and is forced to take a leave of absence. The staff organize shifts to visit Cox at home and console him in the hope of his return, but initially, J.D. refuses to take part. Meanwhile, Turk begins a new orthopedic rotation, but struggles to connect with and ultimately is overheard insulting his new overly sensitive attending. Guest stars Paul Adelstein as Dr. Stone. This is also one of the few times we hear Dr. Cox call J.D. by his real name.

I was referencing a movie called Waiting... It has Justin Long, Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris, Luis Guzman...it's a movie about a bunch of people who work at a TGI Friday's-type restaurant called "Shenaniganz". Absolutely hysterical, especially if you've ever worked at a place like that.

If you haven't seen it, I'd strongly recommend it, even though it means you might never eat another Friday's/Applebee's sorta place ever again.

But I never even thought about the Super Troopers "shenanigans" reference that Dr. Turk dropped.

I was quoting Dane Cook to play directly off YOUR Mitch quote. I didn't want to quote Dane Cook, but it just fell into place with that particular scene of the movie. What I'm trying to say is that me quoting Dane Cook is kinda sorta your fault...or something.

Nevermind. Me = fail.

Actually, I can deal with Dane Cook the Actor...not a fan of Dane Cook the Comedian. I thought he was hilarious in Waiting...

Tangent: Whenever you reference the title of the movie "Waiting...", do you need to put the "..." after it? I guess it's part of the title, but it doesn't look right.

Again, nevermind. Like George Carlin would say, "these are the things I think about when I'm at home and the power goes out."

Stoosh, that Carlin quote about the power going out has me. My only fear of storms stems from the fact that I just get so friggin' bored when the power goes out. The storm starts, and you're like "please power don't go out..." And then it happens, and you're like a person with Tourette's...curse words flowing out of your mouth with no rhyme or reason...waiting for your night vision to finally kick in so you can burn your thumb holding the lighter you'll eventually find and hold on too long...

@ Penstone410 -

I did even better than Applebee's or Friday's.

I used to work at a place in Bridgeville called "Callahan's". It was this goofy sports bar/restaurant/arcade/banquet hall mixture that was tucked away in the back corner of the Great Southern Shopping Center (because nothing screams class like a sports bar that's built into a strip mall on steroids).

In terms of the menu, it was like Applebees or Fridays - heavy on the sports-bar type food. The wings and the salads were actually really good, but everything else was pretty much a ripoff. And it might have been the only restaurant left that didn't offer free refills on drinks.

The place was gigantic. They had like six projection TVs, four or five big screens and individual TVs at every booth, plus TVs all around the rectangular bar. They used to do ten-cent wings on Tuesday nights and we'd usually go up there to watch Pens games. It always seemed kind of dirty...it could've been really nice if some money would've been poured into it. But it was owned by the same guy who owned Donzi's, Chauncey's, Rock Jungle, Matrix, etc...and most of those places failed as well.

I worked there in the late 1990s. It eventually became a country-western style bar and then burned down like two or three years ago.

The power is on now, but we got absolutely pasted by that storm here tonight in Aliquippa at around 7:00.

I had to stop at Giant Eagle on my home from work, so I ended up going to the one down in Greengarden Plaza just as the storm was rolling in. While I was in the store, the power went out at Giant Eagle.

It's always fun being in a semi-crowded public area when the power goes out. I was waiting to see something reminiscent of the riot scene in Ocean's Eleven when the lights come back on after "The Pinch" knocks out the power to the casino, only I guess this would've been elderly people trying to push cashiers out of the way so they could shuffle out of the store without paying for their groceries.

Stoosh said...

@ Big K -

There were tons of birthday parties at that place...that was actually one of the better money-makers for the waiting staff.

I miss the wings there. The wings were outstanding. They had like 10 or 12 different wing sauces and one of the guys who cooked there made most of the sauces from scratch. It was a good place to go and watch hockey because the place was so big, we could take over a couple of tables near the projection TVs and not bug any of the other patrons.

I think the only stuff I ever ordered were the wings and the grilled chicken salads...maybe a sandwich or something like that. I stayed far, far away from the steaks and chicken alfredo and that kind of stuff.

Can't wait for the WJC's, especially because the NHL Network here in the States picks up some of the games.

Speaking of which, the Top 10 Games of the Battle of Ontario is on right now...amazing to see how badly Roberts beat up the Sens when he played for the Leafs.

Carroll said...

stoosh - you probably wasted more time trying to get the site to work then if they had left things as status quo.

Good luck tomorrow.

@ Carroll -

And that's the irony of it, isn't it? Haha.

Stoosh said...

Straight from the take this for what it's worth department.

The NHL salary cap is slated to increase significantly for the upcoming season, which could boost the Penguins' chances to attract unrestricted free agents on July 1.
Ownership is thought to have informed general manager Ray Shero that he can spend to the salary cap for the upcoming season.

The NHL and its Players' Association announced Thursday a $56.7 upper limit for the 2008-09 team payroll range. That is a 12.7 percent increase on the $50.3 million upper limit from this past season.

I don't think the Pens will spend right up to the cap, but I think they could very well spend to within a couple million dollars of it (they'll likely leave some room in case moves are needed to compensate for injuries).

Could add to some intrigue next week.

I'm just excited we'll have some decent hockey in this city for a while. :)

I already put tickets to the games on my Christmas list, that and the 2009 All-star game (I can drive 1.5hr for that). I doubt I will get either unless I buy them myself but you never know.

@ stoosh: i believe buries it mentioned that in the interview after game 6.
@ eileen: i can only hope so.

I need Free Candy and Taters ... 'nuff said. Shero, I will worship the ground you walk on if you get them to stay ... I will make Shero signs to the games I go to and proudly display them ...

Free Candy, Bugsy, just sign the damn contracts ... my negiotation style is best ... get everybody drunk and get them to sign unknowingly ... although, that might get me some jailtime, it's worth it to try *laughs*

Don't know if anyone else saw this, but on the news tonight there was talk that Barden is having trouble getting the money together for his casino, and on monday the workers may stop working BECAUSE THEY AREN'T GOING TO BE GETTING PAID. The casino board are collective jokes, and I hope that they all can sleep tonight knowing that people's property taxes could be going up because they felt compelled to give the contract to Bardo.

Rachele, everyone welcomed our newest bng tonight, I think we were supposed to bring brownies or something...

RaCHeLeYoS said...

what kind of brownies???

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@jonny v: Why do so many idiots plant themselves in political/ power places? Just because you think you are smart it doesn't mean you qualify ... I hate Barden ... he is patetic and I tink he's trying to be the worse person in the Pittsburgh.

@racheleyos: Sorry not the "special brownies" you were thinking of ... *laughs*

Carroll said...

rachel - the bng thing is all your fault (jk) because you pointed out bng1125 (now Anthony) and people just went with it.

Did you get a headache from it too?

Carroll said...

ihk - "special brownies" might have made it easier to read all the bng.66/bng77/66dlog/fh77 comments.

Actually "special brownies" would probably help everyone with FAblog. Not that I am condoning the use of said brownies.

haha it is all my fault.

ok. everyone loves king shero. fine. i really would like to know exactly what these contracts are that are getting turned down. if you can't keep at least one of the three top fa's on the team, there is a problem. maybe it's time to start questioning him. we all know what's out there, and there ain't much.

at least i got to boo some of the yankees tonight. jagoffs.

Let's sum up the cumulative reaction of Pens Nation this week, THE SKY IS FALLING!!!! RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!! OMG SCOTT STEVENS JR. MIGHT LEAVE!! JARI KURRI THE THIRD IS GONE TOO!!!

Seriously, I used to think that c-blog was the most grounded place for Pens fans on the internet, but it's slowing falling in line with sites like LGP.

Now go to your room

jefe penguino said...

first of all, i voted no. but if by some gary-cle there is another round of WWGRDs (not looking likely), ill get one.

i just got home from a couple bars (took me a while to get through all these comments, funny tho)...

anyway who eats wings with a knife and fork? i mean, sure it was a semi-classy joint, but come on. i practically was licking my plate there.

Jonny Veesdoorwall said...

Amen on that. How many moves under Shero's tenure have backfired? Other than the Recchi debacle, not any I can think of. There's a reason "In Shero we trust" is mantra around here. Settle down kids, let the man do his work...

Dan said...

sorry fh, all things considered, i think it's time to ask some questions. no one has left yet but it's not looking good. i understand we can't keep everyone, but it's almost like we aren't trying enough. if they did offer 3 to orpik that's not bad, at least they are negotiating. malone and hossa are gone though, and i really would like to know what malone's offer was.

Colin said...

The Pens have not actually lost anyone to another team yet. I still have faith our team will domiate come next season.

Shero = beast.

I bet we look back on some of this stuff and wonder how lucky we are to have him as a GM as compared to jerks like Kevin Lowe.

@ ihk -

Great news about Lippi coming back. Donadoni was only there because he had friends in high places.

Flyer Hater said...

"It's almost like we aren't trying enough"

Exactly, Shero is in his office scratching his ass with one hand and playing solitaire with the other, (that's actually pretty awesome). CP was much busier in the offseason, you know, asking the guy who vends the coke machine who should be the next Pens coach.

Colin said...

@ dan -

How are things not looking good? Did we really expect all free agents to accept our first offers?

That is why it is called negotiating.

Colin said...

We should offer Milan Kraft 9 mil a season just so we sign someone before July 1st.

Jonny Veesdoorwall said...

Any use of a knife and fork to eat wings allows any observer to apply wet-willy's, noogies, and/or indian burns to said offending party.

Oops I mean native american burns...

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@Flyer Hater: Grounded, please, I go on rants everyday about Malone ... I am obviously crazy ... *laughs* And obviously we can't keep everyone or we wouldn't be talking about this. I'm just stating that I will worship Shero if my golden boy stays ... the man is like magic (Shero)!

@carroll: I thought it was funny w/o the "special brownies" ... does that make me special? (Don't answer that ...)

101 Best SNL Performances are on can't really pay attention ...

@colin: Donadonni annoyed me because he never put in the right players at the right time and stuff like that ... drove me crazy ...

jefe penguino said...

so, i just checked the QS&L menu. thai chile wings on the menu. i recommend. i havnt had them there, but the few places ive had them (tonight) were phenomenal. pittsburgh-wise, ive tried houlihans and they have good ones. someone should try them at qs&lblog and let me know.

Hooks Orpik said...

@eileenover: The Pens can spend to the cap this year, but that means they need to sign players to short-term deals to account for the hefty raises that Malkin and Staal will get two season from now (2009-10).

The Pens could probably afford to pay Orpik $4-4.5 million this year, but not long term. Further, that's probably not a good reason anyways.

All Pens fans need to take a leap of faith in trust in Shero....As hard as it is in probably losing Hossa, Malone and Orpik, watch who he brings in....For a decent amount of money it could be Naslund, Stillman and sleeper pick Michael Ryder. Never know until it's done.

It's not going to happen but WWJJD? Mario showed up on a surprise to present Jammer Jagger with a silver stick in Manhatten during a pre-game in 2006-07 for 600 goals. It's probably never going to happen, but when you're talking Jagr; never say never....He was definitely more dangerous against the Pens in the playoffs than Heatley, Spezza, Briere, Gomez, Datsyuk and Zetterberg (offensively speaking).

It would be an awesome day if tPb got the WWJJD on.......Just sayin

jefe penguino said...

@IHK -i dedicated a sake bomber to you and your malone rant. and now, one more beer to seal the deal.

brndlynn said...

i think malones offer was probably fair b ut he's looking to cash in with other teams who will overpay. im not panicked yet, im remaining cautiously optimistic. i find it hard to doubt shero when he pulled off the trade of the year with hossa.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

Alright I'm getting booted off by my family ... good night to all!!

Flyer Hater said...

Yeah, we should over Orpik 5 mil just because we can afford it!! I didn't know Shero picked up the book, "How to style yourself after a Maple Leafs General Manager"

Jonny Veesdoorwall said...

Oh, and have we settle on a location for wingblog yet?

Jefe, if you're talking about the Thai r' Cracker flavored wings at QS&L, i've already spread the word of their awesomeness. I've gone through four bottles of the stuff they sell at Giant Eagle, I put it on everything.

Not pancakes though, that would be gross.

eileenover said...

Well I'm going to bed. Sweet dreams c-blog.

OK, every dude has one show that they're kind of embarassed to say the watch. That show for me is Charmed, mostly because I love Alyssa Milano. There are a lot of puckbunnies ;) in c-blog, have any of yinz watched this show?

jefe penguino said...

its like malone won the lotto so hes free to go. and orpik only won the pick 3. not quite enough to quit his job and run out on his girl. hes been here since day one, and i think he really wants to settle down here. and will find a way.

@jonny -i knew they would be great. the bestest wings out my way are usually in that flavor category or similar.

@FH -charmed? you jobbed yourself once again.

anything stupid i watch usually is on MTV. i hate that shit, but sometimes cant look away.

I rid of the "pigeon" for the second version of the concept jerseys. I just used the old yellow logo because I suck at making logos. Maybe Stephen, the graphics guru, has an idea? Also, since I already that logo as the shoulder patch, I ditched the patch altogether. Meh. Hah.

Updated Penguins Concept Home Jersey. (Temporarily down because my internet sucks.)

Updated Penguins Concept Away Jersey.

The Alternate Jersey Without Shoulder Patch.

I also decided it would be cool to give our graphics guru some spotlight on the jerseys and used his designs as the main logo.

Stephen's Graphic Home Jersey Concept.

Stephen's Graphic Away Jersey Concept.

Stephen's Graphic Alternate Jersey Concept.

I sent them into staff. Maybe they will post them. Maybe not. Hah. Either way, I will repost them in cblog in the morning on the new post.

@ dr. turk, once I figure out how to import the jerseys in game, I will take some screenshots.

Enjoy everyone!

Flyer Hater said...

Shoez, I love how much time you've put into those designs and they really are interesting to look at, but we all know what the jerseys should be

Jefe, Charmed is a solid show.

jefe penguino said...

@sh0ez -i like the S.S.s winter jersey, w/the penguin in the scarf and all.

you should use the S.S. action penguin for the others.

@FH -im not saying its the worst show on tv or anything. 3 cute bit..witches running around saving..things. i caught myself stopping there a few times.. are you a fan of the spinoff. wasnt it called angel or something? i would have to draw a line there.
