I'd hate to overdo the wristband idea, bc it worked so well for WWGRD. But i would be a huge proponent of a new wristband, maybe doing a new one every season. I'd wear a "free candy" one for orpik, or maybe a "66 buries it". Just a thought

The last two nights have found HBO's George Carlin tribute on the television. I can't make it from one show to the next without:
1. wishing he was still around to do more shows and
2. getting pissed off that he's gone and we're still left with Carlos Mencia, Larry the Cable Guy and Dane Fucking Cook.
On top of that, I just saw the commercial for "Stepbrothers", which is something like the 10,203rd movie that Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have made recycling the same characters.

I couldn't be happier to hear that. Any new ones would cheapen the concept. It wasn't for the sake of making a wristband it was the strength of the idea of the parity (JC rocking the WWGRD wristband) that even made any wristband make sense at all.

at first i thought it was WWGRD or another type of wristband but im glad the only other alternative is retiring them. i think that was brought up a few cblogs ago and compared to retiring #'s. I hope Stephen S can come up with something to illustrate it.
I say let this one rest in peace...unless of course you could raise 3 million dollars off them and then give it to GR to sign with the Pens...it was an INCREDIBLE ride he gave us, and thanks to the guys who thought up the wristbands, Roberts' legend is secure.

I was referencing a movie called Waiting... It has Justin Long, Ryan Reynolds, Anna Faris, Luis Guzman...it's a movie about a bunch of people who work at a TGI Friday's-type restaurant called "Shenaniganz". Absolutely hysterical, especially if you've ever worked at a place like that.
If you haven't seen it, I'd strongly recommend it, even though it means you might never eat another Friday's/Applebee's sorta place ever again.
But I never even thought about the Super Troopers "shenanigans" reference that Dr. Turk dropped.

Stoosh, that Carlin quote about the power going out has me. My only fear of storms stems from the fact that I just get so friggin' bored when the power goes out. The storm starts, and you're like "please power don't go out..." And then it happens, and you're like a person with Tourette's...curse words flowing out of your mouth with no rhyme or reason...waiting for your night vision to finally kick in so you can burn your thumb holding the lighter you'll eventually find and hold on too long...

I did even better than Applebee's or Friday's.
I used to work at a place in Bridgeville called "Callahan's". It was this goofy sports bar/restaurant/arcade/banquet hall mixture that was tucked away in the back corner of the Great Southern Shopping Center (because nothing screams class like a sports bar that's built into a strip mall on steroids).
In terms of the menu, it was like Applebees or Fridays - heavy on the sports-bar type food. The wings and the salads were actually really good, but everything else was pretty much a ripoff. And it might have been the only restaurant left that didn't offer free refills on drinks.
The place was gigantic. They had like six projection TVs, four or five big screens and individual TVs at every booth, plus TVs all around the rectangular bar. They used to do ten-cent wings on Tuesday nights and we'd usually go up there to watch Pens games. It always seemed kind of dirty...it could've been really nice if some money would've been poured into it. But it was owned by the same guy who owned Donzi's, Chauncey's, Rock Jungle, Matrix, etc...and most of those places failed as well.
I worked there in the late 1990s. It eventually became a country-western style bar and then burned down like two or three years ago.

The power is on now, but we got absolutely pasted by that storm here tonight in Aliquippa at around 7:00.
I had to stop at Giant Eagle on my home from work, so I ended up going to the one down in Greengarden Plaza just as the storm was rolling in. While I was in the store, the power went out at Giant Eagle.
It's always fun being in a semi-crowded public area when the power goes out. I was waiting to see something reminiscent of the riot scene in Ocean's Eleven when the lights come back on after "The Pinch" knocks out the power to the casino, only I guess this would've been elderly people trying to push cashiers out of the way so they could shuffle out of the store without paying for their groceries.

There were tons of birthday parties at that place...that was actually one of the better money-makers for the waiting staff.
I miss the wings there. The wings were outstanding. They had like 10 or 12 different wing sauces and one of the guys who cooked there made most of the sauces from scratch. It was a good place to go and watch hockey because the place was so big, we could take over a couple of tables near the projection TVs and not bug any of the other patrons.
I think the only stuff I ever ordered were the wings and the grilled chicken salads...maybe a sandwich or something like that. I stayed far, far away from the steaks and chicken alfredo and that kind of stuff.

Straight from the take this for what it's worth department.
The NHL salary cap is slated to increase significantly for the upcoming season, which could boost the Penguins' chances to attract unrestricted free agents on July 1.
Ownership is thought to have informed general manager Ray Shero that he can spend to the salary cap for the upcoming season.
The NHL and its Players' Association announced Thursday a $56.7 upper limit for the 2008-09 team payroll range. That is a 12.7 percent increase on the $50.3 million upper limit from this past season.
I don't think the Pens will spend right up to the cap, but I think they could very well spend to within a couple million dollars of it (they'll likely leave some room in case moves are needed to compensate for injuries).
Could add to some intrigue next week.
I'm just excited we'll have some decent hockey in this city for a while. :)
I already put tickets to the games on my Christmas list, that and the 2009 All-star game (I can drive 1.5hr for that). I doubt I will get either unless I buy them myself but you never know.

Don't know if anyone else saw this, but on the news tonight there was talk that Barden is having trouble getting the money together for his casino, and on monday the workers may stop working BECAUSE THEY AREN'T GOING TO BE GETTING PAID. The casino board are collective jokes, and I hope that they all can sleep tonight knowing that people's property taxes could be going up because they felt compelled to give the contract to Bardo.

sorry fh, all things considered, i think it's time to ask some questions. no one has left yet but it's not looking good. i understand we can't keep everyone, but it's almost like we aren't trying enough. if they did offer 3 to orpik that's not bad, at least they are negotiating. malone and hossa are gone though, and i really would like to know what malone's offer was.
The Pens have not actually lost anyone to another team yet. I still have faith our team will domiate come next season.

I bet we look back on some of this stuff and wonder how lucky we are to have him as a GM as compared to jerks like Kevin Lowe.

Exactly, Shero is in his office scratching his ass with one hand and playing solitaire with the other, (that's actually pretty awesome). CP was much busier in the offseason, you know, asking the guy who vends the coke machine who should be the next Pens coach.

so, i just checked the QS&L menu. thai chile wings on the menu. i recommend. i havnt had them there, but the few places ive had them (tonight) were phenomenal. pittsburgh-wise, ive tried houlihans and they have good ones. someone should try them at qs&lblog and let me know.
@eileenover: The Pens can spend to the cap this year, but that means they need to sign players to short-term deals to account for the hefty raises that Malkin and Staal will get two season from now (2009-10).
The Pens could probably afford to pay Orpik $4-4.5 million this year, but not long term. Further, that's probably not a good reason anyways.
All Pens fans need to take a leap of faith in trust in Shero....As hard as it is in probably losing Hossa, Malone and Orpik, watch who he brings in....For a decent amount of money it could be Naslund, Stillman and sleeper pick Michael Ryder. Never know until it's done.
It's not going to happen but WWJJD? Mario showed up on a surprise to present Jammer Jagger with a silver stick in Manhatten during a pre-game in 2006-07 for 600 goals. It's probably never going to happen, but when you're talking Jagr; never say never....He was definitely more dangerous against the Pens in the playoffs than Heatley, Spezza, Briere, Gomez, Datsyuk and Zetterberg (offensively speaking).
It would be an awesome day if tPb got the WWJJD on.......Just sayin

i think malones offer was probably fair b ut he's looking to cash in with other teams who will overpay. im not panicked yet, im remaining cautiously optimistic. i find it hard to doubt shero when he pulled off the trade of the year with hossa.

its like malone won the lotto so hes free to go. and orpik only won the pick 3. not quite enough to quit his job and run out on his girl. hes been here since day one, and i think he really wants to settle down here. and will find a way.

I rid of the "pigeon" for the second version of the concept jerseys. I just used the old yellow logo because I suck at making logos. Maybe Stephen, the graphics guru, has an idea? Also, since I already that logo as the shoulder patch, I ditched the patch altogether. Meh. Hah.
