Hacksaw Gone

Breaking news.

Hacksaw has left via free agency.
He signed a 3-year 31, million dollar deal with Mr. Plank at [WebleedTeal]

Hacksaw was an incredible 13-0 at home at one point before suffering his only home loss to the Wings in Game four.

Noooo! This can't happen!

I Have Kasparaitis said...

What, how could Hacksaw leave us? This is a bad off season already ...

meecrofilm said...

WHAT THE FUCK!!!

NOOO.

FUCK. Staff how could you let this happen?!

We lose our best started to someone who won't even appreciate him.

devastationblog.

add this with the "game 7" stuff from earlier. I see you guys are taking the season being over pretty hard as well. I still haven't recovered. And this sure ain't helping.

Doc Steel said...

Anyway, now that I'm clearly first, I have to ask...

How much cap room do you guys have after losing Hacksaw? You should have some room to make a trade to put a big contract guy on your roster for cheap.

Who is "Hacksaw"

wilsmith said...

In Staff We Trust.

Hacksaw had peaked. Someone else is out there and we've got a lot of depth in the system.

I'm sure Staff will find the under the radar bargain FA closer that we need.

I really wanted to post this during the SCF, but the opportunity never really presented it. I'm not sure if it's been posted on this site before or not.

*whips out hand-held cassette tape player like reporter* So do you know who you guys are trying to bring in? How much money do you now have to spend on new players? And is there potential to bring someone up from the minors?

In case you missed it at the end of the other post:

@kaspar: Hubba hubba! Yes, Ned's version is still the best.

And no worries about me being arrested...I am all look but no touch; some of the younger ones are just way too young. Even the overagers still seem like babies to me, which is crazy since Steve is actually younger than the 3 overagers we had this year. Crazysauce I tells ya!

@carroll: Bing did rock the dark charcoal grey with a very fine pinstripe, but he had a white on white shirt and a dove grey tie...a tiny bit shiny so maybe a nice silk.

Cherrysuitblog....it was Xmas at the Igloo with Donald S. rocking the red velvet jacket, a cream colored shirt with a the white color and cuffs; and the lapel has a cream rosebud.

Ry said...

I'm not worried about the loss of Hacksaw. We have some good prospects in the minors such as Jack Burton and John McClane. Along with a solid draft where I hope we can land one Jeffery Lebowski we should be in good shape.

True Story...

I went down to Pittsburgh prior to the Flyers series and I ran in to Hacksaw.

He was bragging about leaving tPB.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the starts he had for us.

But the dude was cocky and injury prone.

And who brags about tPB starts outside of a gas station in Cranberry?

Later Hacksaw...

Kat said...

@chica,

ha, Steve does love his sammiches.

Randomassquestionblog,

Does anyone know if Jared Staal (perhaps some sort of relation to Jordan, no one's ever told me if Jordan had brothers) is in the draft this year? Just curious...

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@chica: I'm glad you liked the videos ... I thought you would ... also glad you look and don't touch ... last thing I want is you to get arrested for inappropriately touching Staal or one of your junior boys ... *laughs*
So who was the Sid in the video, Chica ... Bing, Sidney, or Steve?

@annie: I love the muffin line ... "Redeem yourself!"

Sorry, Bibbs got my vote! Wooo!!!

@Dr. Turk: Being mean to Eaton? WWMED? Beat you up after he gets yelled at for saying he was gonna try and play for the Cup Final ... quit being mean ... we let you have Whit ... *smiles*

@kat: What ... who is this Jared Staal ... someone the other day mentioned him along Marc and Eric, but I told them I had no idea what they were talking about ...

Kat said...

lol turk, yeah I know who Jared is, which is why I was kinda curious to see if he's in the entry draft this year.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

Mark Eaton isn't gone, yet ... you're being cruel ... Eaton isn't injury-prone ... more like attack-prone. The injuries he sustained from being on our team was when someone made sure he got out of the game ... Cheechoo and Sturm injured my Eaton ... he got the slew-foot this year. It's not his fault he's a talented d-man and people are trying to injure him to up their chances at success. He's a great defensmen that I would hate to see leave. Good player, humble, too ... plays some of the best defense on the entire team

TheNWChica said...

@kat: I just looked at the Sudbury page, and yes babyStaal is eligible this year. :)

@kaspar: Which video? There were several. ;)

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@chica: Hmm ... the GQ photo shoot ones ... he is posing in his locker and playing with the puck ...

Wow, a combination of Drill weekend and hotterthanHadesblog has kept me from posting, missed a ton...Hacksaw, just gotta say, you did a lot for us, enjoy the Silicon Valley, and say hi to Charlie for us. We're gonna miss u buddy!

dying alive, Owen loves his mama! Owen loves his mama! And a good point re: the Orpik to Carolina suggestion, but I know in interviews Cole said it was water under the bridge though.

joose, zyrtec is the Gary Roberts of allergy medicine.

michelle, your split pic idea (Mario/Sid hoisting the Cup) is a great idea. Can't wait till it comes to fruition.

Stephen S., congratulations on the addition to the staff, and I'm chomping at the bit (sorry for the horse racing pun) for what you have cooked up in the future. I want to get one of your images as a tattoo eventually, but wouldn't feel right if u didn't think it was cool.

LadyJaye, I live right near South Park and would def. be interested in attending/assisting with logistics. Maybe something towards the end of July (before all the back to school hubbub and after IndependenceDaylet'skickthetiresandlightsomefiresblog)

For some reason, I always pictured Pierre McGuire as one of those weirdos that dressed like the gimp from Pulp Fiction. He's skeevy...

Sooska, Sid was a pitcher at Shattuck-St. Mary's in Faribault, Minnesota also. And Clem's barbecue was a must stop on my way up to and/or back from college at IUP. I hear it's expanded a bit since i graduated

Snickerdoodles, anything the Wings do to the Cup pales in comparison to the levels of debauchery I'm sure Talbot will come up with. It would surely be part of sexytime...

Stoosh, my only fond memory of Odelien's playing here is not even when he played here, but when Barnaby called him Cornelius from Planet of the Apes.

Was that a Conkblock sighting in the NHL '09 clip?

I think Eats got injured during the NYR game when Gieno was slew-footing all those Blueshirts at the end of the game....[jk]

Jared Staal

...One concern about Staal is he lacks quickness, but teams will be willing to use a high 2nd rounder, possibly a 1st, because of what they've seen from the other 3 brothers as NHL players...

I guess the GQ Crosby would be Sid...still young enough to go by the nickname. Now, I think he probably like Sidney, the whole name, better.

about Jared [from THN Draft Prv ''08]

DOB: 8.21.90
POS: RW
Shoots: Right
HT: 6'3"
WT: 195 lbs.

Henry Staal, the patriarch of the Staal clan, once said he thought Jared was the most talented but least motivated of the 4 brothers.
There are signs, however, the youngest of the Staal boys is beginning to develop a sense of urgency in his game. There is little doubt he made strides this season with Sudbury after spending much of his rookie season on the bench.
Staal went from 3 points to 49 on a weaker Wolves team.
Jared might not have the offensive panache of his brothers, but he offers a physical element.
'There's something there, you're just not sure what it is', one scout said. 'He can be a big, bruising guy along the boards.'

I know everyone here doesn't like the PG's Ron Cook- me included. However, his column in today's paper is a salute to the best plays of the playoffs. It is a good look back and positive - not one ounce of negativity:

@ seeker- that is a great quote. didn't they have a Bonvie bobble fist night this seaaon? hee ;)

Many pro athletes that played here in the Burgh, stayed here. More Steelers and Pens than Pirates I think.

My husband reported to me this morning that he was watching the Pirate game last night when Steve Blass used "glove save." When a foul ball dinged off the foul ball pole he said "hit the post" (instead of pole,) and "buzzin like bees around a hive." It made me laugh and recall the summer Mike Lange and Steve Blass were the radio broadcast team for the Buccos. They laughed and sounded drunk and were as entertaining as anything I have ever heard. I know they have remained friends. I might become a baseball fan again if I could listen to them.

A few more potential new members to lead us into game day.

Reggie Dunlop - his ex-wife might have said he was a lousy coach and that he couldn't win, but he knew how to "twist em and fuck with em", knew how to deal with management, and was good with the pre-game speeches. Even teammate Ned Braden said a lot of c-bloggers should show up to see a veteran like Dunlop play.

Fred Rogers - may come off as a bit soff on the outside, but who else was the inspiration for "Mister Roberts neighborhood"? Hell, he even had his own Pro Set card back during the Cup years (1992?), which is a sign of a winner. Don't underestimate Fred. He knew how to run the neighborhood, and he's close to being a hometown boy being that he's from nearby Latrobe. Of course, Fred is no longer alive, which may hurt his cause. I don't think that should be a factor though since Pitt has been using Bernie Lomax as their coach for the last few years.

I just got the call and I'm off to Norfolk for two weeks of surf, sun....oh, who am I kidding? It's gonna be f'ing nasty down there. High of 102 today and tommorow, 101 Tuesday, and 99 on Wednesday. The nights aren't supposed to go lower than 78. Supposedly from what a friend's ex-roommate said, there's a ton of humidity involved too. I'm already looking forward to coming home so I can get take part in birthdayblog (21st of June, for those scoring at home).

The house my dad grew up in is actually shown in the movie, and some chick he went to highschool with is in the back of the car Cruise gets into in the 1 scene.

...yes, All the Right Moves...sure wish the Pens would've had 'em the other night!

Now that we're in the off season, I'm thinking like the Hanson brothers:

"I Wonder if Speed Racer is on Around Here?"

relax about Hacksaw cbloggers, with the brass of riverboat gamblers tPb staff will make some incredible off season moves, and show the Gore why they're a big deal.

meecrofilm said...

Ok, I've gotten over the initial shock... I've decided to put effort to finding replacements and prospects to fill the holes.

Staff - I've been going where most scouters for other blogs aren't. I've following this guy around the European Elite League for a while. He's a solid player, and one of the most fearless leaders I've ever seen. Liken him to a Gary Roberts type. I think we should sign him before he gets too old. His veteran leadership could be huge down the stretch.

Or, if we need to put up our dukes..

Who's with me?

I'll be back after I've finished my scouting excursion.

I think we saw in unveiled at the tailgateblog.

If it doesn't make an appearance over on Empty Netters next season, it'd be criminal.

coffeytalk said...

yea, empty netters NEEDS a snap of that jersey. i'm sure they'll get it.

i got one in mind that i'll be creatin' for next season.
just. you. wait.

differentdirectionblog- didn't david the gnome die in the last episode.

also, did you know that in Duck Tales, the city of Duckburgh is based on Pittsburgh!?

for realzies.

Dr. Turkleton said...

ok...I just saw an advertisement for a local insurance company that was introduced by Buffo: The World's Strongest Clown

I was scared, intrigued, shocked, amazed, wanted to turn the channel, but couldn't...all in a mere 10 seconds.

Hacksaw = meet your replacement.

coffeytalk said...

NO NOT BUFFO!

That guy has been around for years. I see his van patrolling the streets of Wexford every now and again.

I am TERRIFIED of him.

(well all clowns in general)

but strong clown + free candy van = the slitting of my wrists.

meecrofilm said...

http://www.televisionheaven.co.uk/doogiehowser2.jpg

Anyone? Could provide a spark of energy if we're slumping a bit. Good third-line speed, with some scoring touch as well. Plus, he's wide beyond his years, which is invaluable come playoff time.

coffeytalk said...

I've also been out scouting.

here's my prospect. he seems eager and interested. he's a veteran for sure and could offer us a lot of guidance and experience. he's come off of some injuries: shoulder, arm and hand, face. but he has shown he can buck on through anything.
our future

hail to the king, baby.

meecrofilm said...

Also, I vote that we send some of c-blog to go check out this "Dark Night" event that will be happening over the summer, as ikt's supposed to possess one of the deepest talent pools in years. I definitely think that has some potential lying within it.

coffeytalk said...

I've already called shotgun on The Dark Knight situation.

it's covered.

meecrofilm said...

@ coffeytalk.

I really like it. No doubt AJW is one of the toughest players around. He reminds me of Ryan Smyth, but with a mean streak.

The Staff with have to smoothtalk him a bit, as I know there is undoubtedly a lot of interest surounding him, but I think we can make it happen.

Dr. Turkleton said...

@coffey...

looks like he's based in Evans City, so Wexford wouldn't be quite a far jaunt for him + his van [your Emo line still has me cracking up]

not much of an expert of David the Gnome's [David el Gnomo] work...and by 'much', I mean I've never seen it/him.

BUT.

wikipedia does shed some light on your question...don't want to spoil it for BNG66 + others...

BTW, I showed Christina that website o'bags...

BIG.MISTAKE.

now, I'm fighting for Gore time with her.

I'm going effin' crazy here. I'm watching the mens' gymnastics nationals and the announcers are jinxing practically everybody. Sabrejets said...

Wow, they must be haulin' that Yuengling over -- can't get it in Ohio or West Virginia, but if you go down Myrtle Beach or Florida, they have it there.

Jonny V said...

Coffey, tell your friend his jersey is quality. I'd even go as far to say restaurant quality. And I'm pretty sure David the gnome is dead, i think i ran him over with my lawnmower years ago. And holy hell that Halls and Oates video was disturbing.

Ash from Evil Dead is a beast and a half with the chainsaw and boomstick, and I like the Mister Rogers suggestion, but if you think of one deceased person who was always money, you gotta go with Ol' Blue Eyes. Frank Sinatra.

Rachele, i kind of liked the sound of "Murse", but it sounds too much like the virus, and next thing you know I'll be sequestered in a room drinking quarantini's with Tara Reid.

I may be alone in this, but I know I cannot wait until The Dark Knight.

The Seeker said...

My hopes for The Dark Knight are somewhere in the range of Oscar Sweep '08 to Best Movie Ever For Life. there is no way it can fail.

i recall a series of Batman movies made in the late 80s and early 90's...did that really happen or am i just imagining things? Because Batman Begins is the only Batman ever made, IMO.

Penblog is just making room for Goldust. Goldust is a rising star in the 'Gameday Motivational Image' area and can be had for a fraction of what Hacksaw would command. Also, having 2 ex-WWF superstars in the Pensblog locker room would cause friction.

C-blogger Gaylord Focker once had Buffo, The World's Strongest Clown as an impromptu guest on his radio show when we were in college together. The whole thing was quite surreal.

Holy crap, I just damn near threw up I was laughing so hard at Vader Fortune. My side cramped up, though.

Stoosh said...

Made a trip to Best Buy today and bought National Treasure 2 on DVD.

We sat down to watch it and let the previews run before the movie started. Disney runs about a two-minute thing during the previews hyping all their movies that will be hitting Blu-Ray.

The exact conversation between myself and Nancy Stoosh followed.

Nancy Stoosh: I'm not paying $300 for a Blu-ray player right now. Am I going to have to go out and buy all my movies on Blu-Ray?

(without missing a beat)

Disney Voiceover Guy: ...and you can play all of your original DVD's on a Blu-ray player.

Me: See? There you go. You can just figure out which ones you want to get in hi-def and those are the ones you buy on Blu-ray.

Nancy Stoosh: But I'm still not shelling out all that money for a Blu-ray player.

Me: That's why I wanted to wait to see if Blu-ray or HD-DVD won out before I got either a PS3 or an XBox360.

Nancy: You can play Blu-Ray on an XBox360?

Me: No. But you can on a PS3.

(pause, and then in dead seriousness)

Nancy: We have to get you a Playstation 3.

Me = Stunned at first, then the Lemieux Fist Pump.

This is why Nancy Stoosh is awesome.

I need all of you to vouch as witnesses that this conversation in fact occurred, because this will be brought back up to Nancy Stoosh no later than August 15 (my birthday).

Sad news about hacksaw btw... I knew with his home record that someone would grossly overpay for him. Leave it to San Jose.

At least it'll free up some cap space. The question is, do we sign a wrestler in his place?

I vote for Ric Flair.. WOOOOOOOO

stokes said...

No offense to Mr. Plank, but the Sharks are still going to underachieve even with the magnificence that is Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

J.S. said...

canaan, there is no room for Jake the Snake on c-blog. There's room for only one Roberts on this blog, and his name is Gary.

Besides, Jake The Snake is past his prime and a known junkie. If we're gonna sign known drug abusers, why not go younger and sign Darren McCarty?

debrisslide said...

I'd suggest that we sign Giant Haystacks, but he's dead. Bigger than the USS Gill, though, that's for sure.

#1 on the radar right now = Ash.

Staff, make it happen.

Batman Begins was and still is sick. I have a really great feeling about The Dark Knight, both as a movie, and even more importantly, as a scouting combine. Everyone in the league will be checking it out for gameday-post talent. We have to make sure we're the first to make a move. Coffeytalk - that midnight showing is a great call. We're counting on you.

TheNWChica said...

Okay....maybe you can explain to me why not only has only one woman been nominated, but the one that has has only 2 supporters that have come forward?

If not Ripley, and honestly I'm not sure why she shouldn't be chosen, then who? Bride from Kill Bill? Lara Croft?

Come on my sisters...get behind me; we need some representation on game days damn it!

J.S. said...

Haystacks may be bigger than the USS Hal Gill, but you're sacrificing a lot of mobility. 250-260 lbs moves much easier than 650 (estimated).

But if we're gonna look for size, here's my suggestion.

Mobile and tall (and long)

Meecro's choice of David the Gnome = solid. He already has experience in c-blog, so maybe it's time to bring him up for fulltime duty.

Major Payne maybe? But he might have gone soff w/ the girl and the kid, though ...
