This is the best day of my life.

If there weren't enough reasons to re-sign Ruutu, this is the definitive one.

I Have Kasparaitis said...

Ha, that photoshop is awesome ...

Lady Jaye said...

I might be able to get it on youtube. I have a video capture tool for my screen. I'll play around with it as soon as I'm done writing a lesson plan... you see how that' working out for me.

I love you Jakke!

What is even better is that the guy doesn't even ask him WTF he's talking about. :)

@Lady Jaye: They are offering $20 ...I'm sure that will be a big salary boost since you are a teacher ... *laughs*

Lady Jaye said...

@ihavekaspar > Nah, I teach for Boise State Univ as an adjunct... I'd get paid more than your average teacher if i were to work full time. This is just my second job. By day I am a jedi... okay i'm going insane. By day I'm a software trainer/web designer until they make me do something else at the day job.

@flyer hater > you see how much I'm working ;)

sh0ez said...

I would use my nerdiness to get the video, but I no longer have my beast of a program and I'm too lazy to find it again. Hah.

Stilly said...

Ruutu reads Pensblog. That's the only explanation. Next thing you know he'll be wearing a Gary Roberts for President shirt.

I'm guessing that Chris Osgood reads too, pretty sure his SN is Paulinmiamimen.

TheNWChica said...

Thank you Dr. Turk!

I Have Kasparaitis said...

@lady jaye: That would be awesome to work as a jedi ... A lot of the times I have wished that I had the force ... I'd probably be better suited for the sith though because the ways I'm thinking of using the force includes hurting people and manipulating them ... would it it make me on the Light side of the force if 2 of them were Holmstrom and Osgood?

@Stilly: Maybe we'll hear him call someone a jobber soon ...

dhudzin said...

@ Ruutu

You, sir, are awesome.

Lady Jaye said...

@ihavekaspar > I'm too nice so I'm always the proverbial good guy character in any genre... I won't say more before I incriminate myself more in being a total and absolute dork.

grr, the one program i want to use is a free trial and my office didn't buy the license yet... no exporting. Back to my back up plan which may or may not work.

Stilly said...

@IHK

I hope he calls Holmstrom "Jokestrom". That would kill me.

@anyone

Who all here is an IT professional or student? I've seen a few geeks come out of the woodwork in the last few days..

Me = Business Systems Analyst

Lady Jaye said...

@stilly > I am kinda... I don't think the real IT at work would consider me an IT professional. I'm like their half breed cousin they sometimes let into their inner circle.

hockeyfan0012 said...

hey about getting that vid on youtube, i think theres something with firefox that downloads vids off of youtube, but i dont know if itll work with that. classic though

I think with the tremendous influence this blog has had on this team and the fans, i have a feeling some of the Penguin players do come here.

Lady Jaye said...

@jefe > my problem is that i run windows from the mac through another software program because I have to test back and forth between different platforms and browsers... and since I can't dedicate all my computer memory to running it, it hates me and wishes I would go away. So therefore, I lose :)

@anybody > NBC is choosing to run a children's hospital marathon on saturday near Tampa instead of Game 4. I have a friend down there who is PISSED off. Is it wrong that we're mad they're showing a good cause over the game ;)

That video that I have just seen, has taken my usually mundane day, and made it into something awesome. You guys running the pensblog have something really special. It goes without saying that we as a Pens nation are undoubtedly connected to one another, as that video illustrates. Tomorrow shall be a day long remembered by us fans.

Go Pens.

Actually, I think someone asked Ruutu about Roberts' cult status. He said something about "Well he is the President" referencing the Roberts for President signs. He has to read Pensblog!

Found it.....

[b]Q: Who do you think is the bigger cult figure among Penguins fans, you or Gary Roberts, and who would win in a fight?

A: I don't know. Gary is the president [referring to popular signs promoting Roberts for president], so how can I beat him? He's the leader. He's been around forever. I think he deserves the credit he's getting. I don't know [who would win a fight]. It would be pretty interesting. He's a tough bugger

Dr. Turkleton said...

HCMT presser - where HCMT laughs like he's gone MAD. [can be seen along with the Ruutu vid on KDKA...this question is about at the 7:15 mark]

Media Jobber: Coach, you mentioned before the nervousness of 19 and 20 year olds in the Stanley Cup Finals. Do you think your team maybe gets more of a boost by the crowd here than maybe DET does at home?

HMCT: It's tuff to say. It's tuff to say....ahhh...it seems dat we skate well, we're...de,de [pause]lass game...ah [pause] before da game, I was complainin bout de obstruction.... an, fo, for good reason...for good reason. I can sit here an say dat deres no obstruction. I'm not gonna lie, ya know? If dere's obstruction, dere's obstruction. If dere's no obstruction, dere's no obstruction. When I see dere's about 13, 14 clip dat I see dat I could tell dere should be a penalty regarding da book....ah...I'm expecting...arrr...I know how it is, I'm not expecting dem to call 14...lass game was a little bit better...but dere still place to improve but that's da TRUTT...I'm not...I'm, it's not some ting I'm preaching that...It's some ting that we base our team...wit speed... an if we can allow dus to use our speed...it's, it's...we gonna git effect...an, an dats normal...ahhhum...I'm expecting nex game the ah obstruction call will will be call it...an I still beleaf dere's so some space to improven it again...be cause i saw when you broke down da game...I know it's a fass game...ahhhm..you when you break down da game, you'll see dat daaaa...dere's a few times dat dere shoulda been call an calls are impordant...you need dose calls....if you don't get dose calls...at da right time an...it, it could change da momentum of da game..an you could sen da powerplay at da right time if da right call is made an you could get dat big goal give some momentum to your team...when you don had it...it could be tuff...and...da...dat's why it, it's crucial...you need BREAK...do win hockey game, obviously you need ef fert and all dose typea ding an in da mean time an ya need ta git da right call.

Media Jobber: I...ahhh..appreciate that answer. Actually, I was asking more about, do you think your team as being as young as they are, get a boost from the fans by being on home ice. By the crowd here...at...Mellon Arena, as opposed to, maybe, DET feeding off that at home.

HCMT: I understan your question, but I da wanna say my poin too!

AHH HAHAHAHA!!!!! [slaps table, sits back and crosses arms] HAHAHAHA....

We, we like our crowd.

WAHAHAHAHAHAHA [slaps table, sits back again and crosses arms]

Media Jobber: Mike, I don't want to interrupt your stand up act here.

@Everyone:

Thanks for the well wishes. It means a ton.

Whether or not I make it dahn tomorrow all depends on two things:

Mobility & Pain Management

Right now both are at higher end of the tolerance scale.

If I can get in and out of the hospital in less than 2 hours tomorrow... with something for the pain... and something for the mobility... then you'll see my ass there.

(now after all that "ME" talk... I'll pull a Chris Osgood...)

But I don't like to talk about myself. :-)

My girlfriend is a pretty big Star Wars nerd. Before I met her, I had never watched any of them. I had played the playing card game, though. Hah. She had me watch them in chronological order because I'm not so good at putting two and two together. We just watched Episode IV today. I'm stoked for V and VI.

computernerdblog

I'll assume stilly was referring to me as one of the nerds from the past fews days. I'm really nothing special. Everything I know is self-taught through trial and error and such. I learned PHP and PHPNuke crap through working on a gaming community website. Mostly I'm a Photoshop geek. Google is my best friend for computer problems if I can't figure it out myself. My major is GIS (Geographic Information Science) which is pretty computer based. I'm no good with C++ or any of that, though. Meh.

@ Michelle -

I heard Roberts make a couple of other comments today about him realizing that "this might be it" or something to that effect. But you could tell by the tone of his voice that this is a man who desperately wants to go out with another Stanley Cup in tow.

Translation? I think we're about to see what Gary Roberts really would do.

Joose said...

Oh, and Sooska, if any people live east of the city, then they should just hop on 28. Coming from Greensburg, I go from 30 to the turnpike to 28 South and just follow it to the Liberty Bridge exit (579 S). Easy.

Maybe I'm crazy, but it seems like there's a borderline absurd connection between this team, the fans and even the local media...this kinda stuff would never happen in the NFL/MLB/NBA, right? Or do I just follow the wrong teams there?

Stoosh said...

Got into this discussion at work the other day with one of the other Pens diehards...

If Gary Roberts decides to hang up the skates after this season, he will have been a Penguin for about a little more than one and a quarter seasons. Call it a season and a half when you factor in all the postseason games.

Other than Roberts, has there ever been an athlete in Pittsburgh who became a bigger fan favorite/cult hero despite being here for such a relatively short time?

I can't think of anyone. Other guys became fan favorites just as quickly, but most of them stuck around longer than Roberts probably will.

beanfrompa said...

Jonny V said...

Stoosh, I think Bob Boughner, Steve McKenna, and Johan Hedberg all added up probably are about 1/8th as popular as Mr. Roberts.

chubs, as bad as the whole experience was, I think the whole will-they-stay-or-will-they-go situation really brought about this love affair. When you realize how close they were to going, it makes you appreciate this whole run that much more. About 15 months ago, we were all worrying that we may just have to be cheering this team while playing in Fleury29land. But they're here. They're ours.

The Seeker said...

The easiest way to download videos from any website is to install the "Video DownloadHelper" add-on extension for Firefox.

Then, whenever there's anything downloadable at all on a webpage, it'll let you know and you can choose what you want from a list.

If you've never downloaded YouTube videos before, be aware they are FLV (Flash Video) files and can only be played in a Flash Video Player. Hit Google for a free one.

Jonny V said...

Not to sound PBCharlie, but what I wouldn't give to spend a day at this guys house.

sh0ez said...

@ joose: I know. I'm still sorry.

@ stoosh: Those same things have crossed my mind, too. It's amazing how popular he has become in such a short amount of time. I can see why he would be overwhelmed or embarrassed. It would be sad to see him go, but he has made this past season and a half one hell of an amazing end to a career, especially with the cult status he has gained. I think, if anything, this extreme popularity is a great way for him to go out. That would be a great way to end a career. A Stanley Cup 19 years after his first, and popularity that he's never had before. What's better than that?

As for that Photoshop that pissed me off earlier, it was a widescreen background for my TV as a second monitor for my computer. It's my own WWGRD background featuring pictures and the drawing that Dave P. made a while back in tPB. I also made a smaller version of it for regular resolution monitors.

Original Widescreen WWGRD Wallpaper

Regular Resolution WWGRD Wallpaper

Enjoy my boredom.

I'll post 'em again in the next post which will probably be coming soon.

Joose said...

you figure the Buccos haven't brought in a high flying player in a trade [Matt Morris?] or thru FA in decades...Andy Van Slyke was around longer than Roberts, right? when the Buccos got him from St. Louis....

how about:
Mike Diaz - "RAMBO" -Pirates- I remember posters of him all dolled up in baseball garb like Rambo.

But, he never really did anything...except hit a few HR's [28] in 247 games between 1986-88.

I think he was on the juice fo sho.

Ron Duguay?

was in PIT for end of 1 season [Mar 86] to Jan. of the next

I think for those of us that plan on watching on the lawn... we should try and grab a big spot to all watch together. That would be unreal. I'd love to watch with a group of people who got my inside jokes.

I advise against "Free Candy" signs just because of the confusion it will cause with other fans. I'll probably come up with something here before I hit the hay and have it printed out at Kinko's before we go.

I don't think Staples™ [I'll be going to the one on Banksville Rd.--- right across from where that large sign {that's still up, BTW} says "Gary Roberts doesn't need to wear a watch, he decides what time it is"] actually ready for your work, just yet...I'm only going to go there to buy some ink & return home to continue printing out pics...

I can't stop staring at that pic...the Roberts photo in the bottom left, with his back to us...It looks like you can see his vertical SCAR on his neck from where he had neck surgery [or where the Cyborg implant took place]

The Legend of Gary in 1996

looking up some info on him...how about THIS for BEING TOUGH:

Missed part of 1993-94 season with broken right thumb, an injury suffered when he blocked Dave Ellett's slapshot with the palm of his glove while killing a penalty in Calgary's March 20, 1994, game at Toronto. Although Roberts broke the thumb in seven places, he missed only one game before playing in Calgary's March 26, 1994, game vs. Pittsburgh. He scored two goals in that game

Nice article find Turk, a hearty waaaay late thank you to his wife Tamra for talking him into coming back after his neck surgery. Nice blast from the past, too. He played with friggin' German Titov.

"An artist wouldn't quit trying to paint if he still had the resources to create on the canvas, would he? I look at this comeback as kind of like painting a picture of my life -- and no one's going to stop me until I've finished the last brush stroke."

Hopefully his last brush stroke is Stanley Cup silver

johnny v!

I have a story for you.

I went down to the Cal PA Dairy Queen today to get me and the girl some dinner and was waiting for my order. In walks a lady with a jacket on that was only partly open. I look at the shirt underneath and it;s that Penguins shirt that you posted in last night's cblog! I was stunned.

@ Dr. Turkelton

Well I've known him since we were 12 and her when she met him, so I was a little more concerned with him when I thought of it.

We've been looking forward to this for weeks, it should be awesome.

But knowing him, her present is having him out of the house and drunk with me instead of yelling and jumping up and down in the living room.
