are smith & james ever gonna show???....maybe sabu could dress as a forward for the FIRST time in his NHL career
Laffe Taffe makes it TWO to 0....
hello????...anybody out there????
@ dr. turkleton
www.gamedaychat.com
Seriously we have like 9 active players and came out of that period up 2-0. How do you pull Conklin when he's playing like this? 23 freaking saves against the offensively challenged Fishsticks.
The Islanders broadcast can be received in Mandarin Chinese. Dead serious.
Random Q: What # will Adam Hall be now? He signed my jersey as #18, maybe I'll tell people that's Hossa lol
This feels like a preseason game
@libertygreg87
how about he wears #81 [cause he's gonna turn this city Upside-Down !!!]...he'd be the 1st Guin to don it
I just found this blog today when I was looking for some good trade scuttlebutt. I'm an instant fan. My new favorite sports blog!
@neil
Welcome!!!!
81... interesting call... I can only think of Satan though everytime I see that number.
Pens better get their legs moving or else they're going to take a dozen penalties tonight.
Hossa has been traded for: Dany Heatley, and a player whose nickname is Crusher. Coincidence?
Go Canes! (just tied the Devils)
Let's do this shit!
I'm listening to the radio broadcast of the game. How cheap was that Isles goal?
@L.G.87
his bro, Marcel, also wore #81 for the NY Rangers, before he got traded to PHX today...
I thought of Satan as well with #81...maybe it's a Slovak thing ????
oh I'm sayin what # will Hall be, I doubt he would keep 18 and make Hossa change up
very true about Slovakians and #81... wonder why?
looks like this ice is horrible, everyone's stumbling or falling
What a day. End it with a with, eh?
After this game, we'll have the number 1 PK unit in the league. Seriously, in this game we have less skill than the Isles, yikes.
It'll be great the next time we play them and bring the pain with,
Malone-Crosby-Hossa
Staal-Malkin-Sykora
wooooo
Caps are up 4-1, Ovechkin has 0 pts. and is a -1!!! awesome!!!
Come'on in, Neil, the water's fine.
Not exactly a garbage goal, but it did bounce around out front before going in... just the payoff for some big traffic in front.
malkin just undressed some jobber and almost made DP look like a 12 year old. DP got lucky as hell.
Marian Hossa
just thought it needed to be said again.
seriously, who needs Marian Hossa when you have Conner James on the PP???
and what a fight for TK!
what a beautiful saucer pass from whitney. stick to stick, a foot off the ice in the middle.
And Kennedy straight freaked out in the fight! Holy Jesus.
Conklin=amazing
50 saves on 52 shots; unreal. Isles... you just got Conkblocked.
I wonder what a 50-save game does for the Conk's goals against...
Conk Block out in force tonight.
epic win. isles are trash.
see you all at the B's game, I'll have the anthem photos ready
Habs up 3-1, how many points does Hossa have for his new team?
Oh, MAHAHAHAHAHAHA
creamed my jeans for the third time today. i feel lucky.
Carolina wins in OT. Nice.
DEVILS LOSE!!!!! Only one point back of the conference lead.
Oh, Hossa.
- Ty Conklin: 50 of 52 saves (what a human)
- Ottawa losing 3-0
- Devils lose 2-1 in OT
- Some dude named Marian
What a day.
Loved the fight between Comjoke and Kennedy.
Fitting that the only thing I could think of was a classic Dusty Rhodes-ism. He was clubberin' away at the fool.
In the words of Ice Cube, "I can't believe/today was a good day"*
* despite the departure of EC and Army.
CONKBLONK = Starter down the stretch ... sorry Fleury.
My prediction is the Thrashers win on sunday 7-0. goals by:
Christensen
Armstrong
Thorburn
Kwiatkowski
Recchi with the hat trick.
and Hedberg with the shutout.
You know, i've been a Fleury go for so long but Conklin won this game all by himself. Could you imagine if Crapourin is in there tonight? Just an outstanding game. I'm sorry, two months is just too long to be a fluke.
Wow. We still win handily without Hossa and Crosby things are looking good. Everyone is stepping up. As Greg Wyshinski said the pens are grabbing their conk and going for it all this year. In saying that I will miss Colby it won't be the same, but that's life.
Fleury will have to ride the pine for at least 1 more game....there's no way you can sit Conk after that performance
Guess the NYI didn't Commit to the Indian-[Fellow, behind the bench tonight]
Congrats Jesse James on NHL goal #1...now, get back in that cab & off to WB/S you go....the meter's running....
tough 'break' for Scuds...he was playing the best hockey of his life [wink, wink]
was waiting to see Gerard Gallant on the Isles bench with clear tape on his face with a big splotch of blood above his eye like EJ had back in that playoff game in the mid 90's [& I thought Gallant was a tough guy]
can't wait to see this guy 'Hossa' v. the B's on Thurs. that everyone seems to be excited about. I think someone mentioned he's pretty good.
Over / Under on how many times Errey says: "Hal Gill is big" : 8 [I'll take the over]
that's all for me for a Mental-Health [Trade-Deadline] Day that started at 700a with a sleeve of Thin-Mints cookies with milk along with the TSN crew on TV & will end in bed watching the conclusion of DET/EDM & NHL on the Fly to see the Pens deals just one.more.time.
Man, I'll sleep / dream good tonight!
I'd be interested to see how fast these people are driving when they can make it from Wilkes-Barre to Pittsburgh in 3 hours (2 hours if the weather is nice)!!!??? Are you kidding me????
There is no way in bloody hell I see that happening unless your name is Billy Tibbetts and your driving 120 mph with the police following close behind!
HOSSA
Nick,
Charlie is waiting patiently for those jeans of yours.
Did you hear Errey when Gallant took that puck to the head? "There's no give in that biscuit." That's the first time he's made me laugh. ever.
There must be something magic about donning the #35 Pens jersey. Like Frosty's silk hat or something.
What a day.
I guess the magic 8 ball with the message "not today, douchebags" photoshop I did in preparation for a quiet day in the burgh won't be used....Wooooooooo!
@ lis
The game was in Long Island
Seriously....
I just thought to myself..."The Pens won 4-2 without Crosby or Hossa playing."
me = still stunned
Marion HOSSSSSSAAAAAA! Imagine Mellon Arena guy annoucing that name after his first goal. Nice ring to it, no? Everybody, ready? Marion Hosssssaaaa!!! That was fun. Sleep tight Pens fans Hossa is a Guin, whoda thunk it? Nice.
So what's this trade going to do to the world's greatest luxury car commercial????
anyone catch the isles fan with the 'rangers suck' jersey which appeared to be autographed (hopefully by the isles) gotta admit that was pretty well done.
I Was Thinking About Both First And Second Powerplays When Sid And Hossa Get Here. I Had To Run And Get A Towel Imange This
PP #1: Hossa - Crosby - Malkin
Gonch - Whintey
PP #2: Malone - Staal - Sykora
Sydor - Wonderboy (Letang)
Sweet Mother Of God. Hide The Woman And Children
There's already a Facebook page by some Pens fans that want Army and EC back!
Connor james has a nice story to tell his kids now eh.
can't wait for tuesday. the only question now is does he play with Malkin and Malone. MT should try that. Sykora with Staalsie and Talbot would work in my mind or maybe Staal and Taffe.
I used to hate Taffe but he has blossomed into more than a worthless piece of junk
sorry i meant
can't wait for *thursday* and hoss's debut
What's All This Talk About Trades? What Happened? A Full Day At School And I Feel Like Rip Van Winkle. Or Was It Rob Van Winkle?
Mike Costa Stylee...Dude, Do You Write Out A Lot Of Titles Of Books Or Something? What's With The Capitalizing Every Word?
there's a facebook page for everything.
there's even one for the new holiday steak and bj day.
mark your calendars....
yeesh.
Like Neil, I'm new here.
In reponse to ricks1883: I think someone with PS skills needs to redo the commercial by putting Hossa's face on Colby!
Great game for James and great fight for Kennedy!
Looking forward to Thursday:-D
GO PENS!!!!
This is a bit lengthy, but bear with me. Thoughts after having some more time to go over all this...
1. You won't find many bigger fans of Armstrong out there than myself. He was simply one of my favorite Pens ever - right up there with Saint Ron, Sid, Kovy, Classic Marty Straka, Geno, Boughner, Jagr, Barnaby and Hedberg. He had a role on this team that far exceeded being just a good guy in the locker room, Sid's best friend, etc. He embraced his role. He embraced the fans throughout the entire organization. He played his role well. I'd like to think from a hockey standpoint that he can be easily replaced, but he can't...at least not all that easily. He was very good at what he did.
2. What makes today difficult is that Armstrong is one of those guys many of us became attached to...he was part of that extended core that was drafted together, came up through the minors together and then captured the hearts of the fans through some very inspired play. He's part of that whole group that will forever be intertwined with the team that took the town by storm during that second half of the 05-06 season, took us to our first playoff experience under this new chapter of Penguins hockey last year, and helped carry the team this far this year. Under a perfect world or Hollywood script, this was all supposed to come together with this core that we've come to love all winning the Cup together, and Army would've been one of the first few to carry that Cup around the arena. He was one of those guys that many of us definitely wanted to continue to be a part of this thing.
3. Speaking for myself, I've gone from disliking the deal at first because I thought we gave up too much (saying that as objectively as possible) to really coming around and being excited about it. Hossa is as good a winger as we're going to get without giving up a major piece of the puzzle, and for as much a fan as I was of him, Army wasn't as big a piece of the puzzle as some other guys were. This is a huge deal...the biggest deal this team has made since I've become a diehard fan. One day, we could very well look back on in much the same way that we look back on the Francis and Tocchet deals.
4. There's definitely a way this club can afford to sign Hossa without falling into the Tampa "Big Three" trap. Shero is going to need to significantly front-load Hossa's deal. Even when Malkin signs an extension this summer, he'll still likely play at a significantly lower cap cost in 08-09; his big cap hit won't hit until 09-10 (much the same way Sid's cap hit is only $3.7M this year and won't kick in to $8.7M until next year). Staal may be in the same boat. Letang's big cap hit on his extension probably wouldn't come until 2010-11.
So it might make sense for Shero to front-load Hossa's deal, structure most of the salary to be paid to Hossa over the first few years of the deal and take advantage of the lower respective cap hits for guys like Geno, Staal and Letang.
5. In addition, perhaps Gonchar is moved between the 08-09 and 09-10 seasons to free up some space. He'll only have two years left on his deal after this year and at a $5 million a year cap hit, he's practically a bargain. There'll be plenty of ways to free up money to make this happen.
6. Dupweeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
7. I don't know what I'm more excited to see - the reaction of Sens fans when we show up Saturday with Marian Hossa in tow, or the reactions of Pens fans Sunday when Army and EC come back.
8. Silver lining: I always wanted to get an Armstrong jersey and now that he's gone, it'll just be a matter of time before PenStation has them on sale for like $85 or something. Woooooooo!
In Shero I most definitely trust. What a f'ing day to be a Pens fan.
Great day for the Pens.
Nice win with solid solid showing by Conkblock. Inhuman again.
Managed to play with two players still in transit.
James gets his first goal. Dude rules. Fast bastard.
I think the trade has been beaten to death. But rules.
OTT and NJ losing. Word.
Malkin taking points lead again.
Perfect.
Let's get those JAWS signs out and get them going at the Atlanta game!
Let's go Pens!
Anyone else Bryan Murray and his lisp come down from the GM's box to save the day in Ottawa? They got shut out AGAIN tonight.
I think the TSN guys said it best during the deadline broadcasts..."Martin Lapointe doesn't have a shovel big enough to dig Ottawa out of the hole they're in right now."
look what this idiot posted on TSN:

If the Pens had a goalie, and I hate to say this as a Sabres fan, I'd say they would be favourites to come out of the east for the Cup. But they don't have a goalie, so it's still anyones conference to win or lose. Don't think for a second that Pittsburgh won't be looking for a quality netminder July 1.
must have started watching hockey yesterday
He must have missed the 3 games against his Buffalo Slugs when Conklin absolutely owned them... Or he blocked the games out due to it being a traumatic event. Either way i'm pretty sure Conklin is a "quality netminder"
in true Pensblogese: daveinthebay = joke
anyone else find Dipiejoke's yelling extremely annoying? Maybe if there were more than 200 fans in attendance the crowd would drown him out...
Laraque looks more out of place every game. I'd take Taffe over him down the stretch.
Im still wondering how weird it's gonna be at the game on Sunday to see Colby and EC on the opposing team.
Stoosh @ 11:40....
You summed it up perfectly.
EC and Army ought to get a standing ovation when they come to the Mellon. They played their hearts out for us and it should be acknowledged.
I'm psyched about what we got, but it's sad when the times comes to go to the next level....those two were part of the necessary building blocks that made it possible.
By the way...Gill's #25 - so who switches numbers, the new guy or Mad Max? If Max switches there will be some very pissed-off Talbot jersey owners out there!
@phil
or he stopped watching hockey 2 months ago...
CONK BLOCK NATION!
@denver..
sending my jeans to charlie to make his day better. After all, his lovers lost today.
im gonna see if i can photo shop a nice hossa picture... later dudes and chicks
What the hell is up with Minnesota. Why have Fedoruk, Boogard, and Simon. I think it's a strange combo that won't produce many goals but sure would scare the hell out of me if i had to play against them.
Awesome blog, so funny.
Conklin was an animal tonight, totally shut down the Isle's 52 shots.
I really enjoyed seeing Comrie's jersey over his head, it made me laugh whenever Kennedy laid a good punch...and I'm an Isles fan! Haha.

stoosh@ 11:44:
I couldn't have said any of that better myself. Especially #6.
It's a new day bitches. Let's do it.
Stoosh - I think John Paddock's days in Ottawa are coming to an end. Bryan Murray will be back behind the bench soon. The shit is definitely hitting the fan in Ottawa.
