What a dumb time to start a game.
But that is Buffalo for you.
Last time these two teams played, the game was huge, and it meant a lot.
Strangely enough.
So is does this game.
Buffalo was left for dead a month ago.
Now they are knocking on the door.
The Pens have lost two straight.
Bing is skating in full contact drills at practice. [PG]
Some internet rumors are swirling that he is closer to returning than thought.
By closer, they mean tonight.
Which is highly unlikely and made up.
EC is out today.
Taffe is playing.
Conkblock we assume will be in net.

Overall, the Eastern Conference playoff race is insane.
At this point, starting today.
You have to prepare yourself for a wild next two months.
The Penguins have four games this week.
Could you imagine if they lose all four?
You'd have to think the plan is to at least try and go 2-2.
Whatever the case. This is a really important week in the grand scheme of things.
Especially with the trade deadline looming next week.

You'd have to think that, really, the playoffs start now, and the Pens will be better off if they start playing with that mentality. Playing sound playoff type hockey will lead to them being FIRST in the conference.

The trib claims the game is on FSN; I think there was a glitch on NHL.com that's making the pens site not show it.
The pens website now says that is on FSN Pittsburgh at 6
it's so crazy that we're 2 wins from first place in the conference, but only 3 losses from not even being in the playoffs.

Yeah losing all four games this week would be horrendous. Such a good race makes watching those Tuesday games on versus worthwhile. I can't believe they didn't just run the clock in that game with only 6 seconds left. Goes to show old style NHL blending nicely back in with the new NHL.

I watched the Canucks v Oil game, complete with 10 fighting majors in the dying moments and Luongo trying to stiff-arm some forechecker. Vancouver would be a really scary team if they added one of the dominant centers available w/o breaking up their D core. Not signing Mike Weaver was a big mistake.
We should be able to push Buffalo around and stun their city again. As far as I know, Lindy employs a defensive system similar to stranding Ryan Miller on an uncharted island.
I'm debating which of the following I have the hardest time believing: New Jersey not curling up and dying, or Therrien not beating Boston's obvious box+1 trap.

I'm watching the Pens/Sabres game on MSG network. The commentators mentioned they spoke to Crosby during the second intermission. Sid said he could be back as early as Tuesday.
That is an amazing recovery if he does.

Thanks for the apt help guys - I'll be beginning residency at UPMC and not making much, especially considering my enormous debt. I could probably do anything under $1500 total/month. As for living next to sketchy places, I currently am in Baltimore so I'm pretty sure anything anywhere in Pittsburgh will be an upgrade.
And, I'll never have to miss a Pens game again.

Watched the broadcast on Center Ice Online tonight, it was the Buffalo broadcast and it was actually pretty good, they interviewed Brooks Orpik in the 1st intermission and Errey in the 2nd! Might as well have been the Pens broadcast! But one of the Sabres announcers said that he was talking to Sid during the 2nd intermission and he may be looking at coming back as soon as Tuesday. so take that with a grain of salt but that's what he said. Also, Flyer Hater I would definitely pencil in Jeff Taffe in your 4 lines ahead of Hall, Taffe may not be putting the puck in the net but he's been creating a lot of chances, I would even try him with Sid for a game or two to see if he can start putting them home

i've watched a bunch of flyers games this season (at least 20) and for being a captain, jason smith provides little-to-no leadership. he is mediocre in grit and disappears when he is needed most. i would pass, pass, pass on Jason Smith no matter what.

what does it say about Hatcher when last year he was most effective for the Flyers standing in front of the net on the power play causing screens/deflecting shots/knocking home rebounds, as a defenseman. The funny thing is that he did the exact same thing on the PK for them last year too, just with more spinning in circles.

About Christensen, that guy is so hot and cold that it drives me nuts, so i can only imagine what the Pens staff has to go through. Regardless, you can only put up with that kind of consistent inconsistency for so long.
Canaan: No doubt. i definitely meant to mention something about him actually doing well in that fight, but still, we all know what kind of fighter he is in the big leagues, right?
christensen has gone from last years version of being the softest dude on the team but with a killer accurate wrister, to this years version of taking stupid penalties trying to rough people up and being too afraid to shoot. i like the kid but as you said, theres no place for that inconsistency.

There's no way that a guy as soff as Crusher could stand up to a hit by Chara, so i do believe he's actually injured. At the same time, i think that is pretty convenient, or lucky, that he got hurt when he did, so they wouldn't have to give him the dreaded "healthy scratch" tag.
I really thought for about a month there, and especially the week or so that the Staalbotsen line played together, that Crusher and Staal looked the best they looked all season. I thought that Crusher was coming out of his shell, but i guess not...

So i finally watched the Rutten's videos, because law and order: SVU is over, and i was laughing after only the first minute. plus his accent makes it that much better. on top of it, i think i learned a little bit for the next time i get in a bar brawl.
