I think Geno has a pretty good shot at winning the accuracy competition. On the other hand, he has no chance in hell of winning the shootout event. It should be fun though.

It's weird that Geno's been struggling in shootouts. I mean he wasn't that great last year but he dangled Theodore and Khabibulin pretty good and he made a nasty headfake against Kolzig. Who knows.

Well think back to last year when sid wasn't doing so hot during the shootouts. Up till the allstar game and he made someone look silly. Now it seems that he is handling himself.

the whole skills comp was a joke. i thought it was pretty stupid. goalies with their mics was pretty sweet. especially when dipietro said "i fucked up my hip again."
as for the breakaway challenge, it too was weak. i thought it was jobbish when nabokov went out and took away st. louis' sweet shots.
Legace on the mic was pretty damn funny. During the youngstars game when someone got a breakaway and did a lot of moves he said, "There should be a time limit!"

when geno bothers to make some moves in his shootout attempts he's pretty good. too often he simply shoots. to me, as a former street hockey offensive genius shooting=choking.
obstacle course was dumb, but not as dumb as the style point shootouts.
the speed thing? a 4 second race? somebody gets paid to come up with this shit?
credit to ovie for being the only one with balls enough to try a slick move in the breakaway competition.

I wish I heard more stuff from the mic'd up players. CBC only gave us the clips long after it was said.

I loved the Versus commentators calling Vokoun DiPietro during the shootout challenge...they're showing their hockey knowledge again.
Who's excited for the NHL's almost stars playing at their mediocre best tomorrow night?
DiPietro can afford the upcoming fine. That would suck for them if he was jacked up for the home stretch because he got hurt in the skills competition.
I had to check out the 700 level to see what their site was about. What a waste of time.
That loser that wrote the thesis here yesterday spewed some crap about coming here and unleashing his dark side on us all....holy crap, what a bag of shit he must be.
Beech was a depth pickup due to injuries. Apparently, the Pens had a chance to pick him up when he was waived a couple weeks ago and passed, but since some of the injuries hit the team, they took him this time around. I'll be surprised if he sees the ice much here and at the very least, it probably allows them to keep guys like Brent and Minard back in Wilkes-Barre. He'll also almost certainly get waived the minute Sid gets back.
I think Versus did a better job on the skills comp than last year (it was tough to do worse), but it's still a tough event to showcase. Some of that stuff just doesn't lend itself to much drama, and I still think Emrick is terribly overrated. But that's just me.
I did enjoy the Youngstars game and I wish they'd do a little more with that.
If they want to make something of the skills comp then how about this.
1. lets see 2 on 1(two forwards one d man and a goalie).
2. lets see an around the world red line to blue line back to red line.
3 lets see the goalies play the puck(goalies stick handling around cones etc....)
4. try the shootout contest again however explain to the shooters that they need to be creative
5. lets see some sort of cycle challenge with some no names like minor leaguers to intercept passes. Kind of like monkey in the middle
6. this maybe a reach but blind fold a goalie and let them shot a couple of shots from pre detrmined areas.
7. give the nhl coverage back to ESPN tommorow.
those are seven things that may make it more interesting and I am some no name joe from pittsburgh not getting paid a dime
WINGERGIRL - The Russian mafia forced the cancellation of a trip I was supposed to take there during my junior year of college. I'm sure they had their reasons for conducting their business as usual, but I'm still a bit bitter about that.

When that tool DiPietro said "I just fucked my hip up again" then afterwards a period of like a minute were it got ridiculously awkwardly quiet.
I think that the breakaway challenge will be better next year because players will know what to expect...I think maybe they had no clue what they were supposed to do. I think they'll also get rid of the goalies, or at least restrict their movements. I had to feel bad for St. Louis because he tried but Nabokov fucked it up before he could do anything.
Ashley, it's still a joke that some players didn't even try to do anything special. That was the whole freaking point of the event. I loved Datysuk on the first try, he didn't even try to do anything different.
I cannot stand Versus at all. Those camera angles were horrible, too. It drove me crazy when they kept showing the goalies talking in the middle of the YoungStars game. The skills comp. would have been perfect for Sid ... maybe even Malkin. He has tapped the puck up before like Sid. He would have been great for the fastest shot, too. Some of his shots, wow! You knew Chara was gonna win 'cause he's a freak of nature being that big!
