Hard to believe there's only 30-some games left.
What a huge game to start off with coming out of the ASG break,
which is hopefully the last time we have to use those initials.
All the hype surrounding the call-up of Alain Nasreddine came to a head today,
when news of Brooks Orpik playing on the wing tonight swarmed across the internet.
[ Pittsburgh Sports Insider ], the hardest-working site on the internet, has the lines for tonight.
1st Line: Malone - Malkin - Sykora
2nd Line: Talbot - Staal - Christensen
3rd Line: Ruutu - Taffe - Filewich
4th Line: Orpik - Smith - Laraque
You have to assume Ty Conklin will be between the pipes.

which means the Devils will score one less goal than they usually do against the Pens.

so... you're going to put a guy on the wing that hasn't scored in 4,376 games (give or take a few). I mean, I would hope Brent, Mindard, or Stone could do a better job than Orpik on the wing. You know you have injury problems when you are praying for Kris Beech to cross the border and join your team (although I'll admit he has put up good numbers this season). Lets Go Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins!
i thought about it and, i guess if you want any of our defenseman playing on the fourth line, meaning limited ice time, i guess it would be brooksie.
There are a lot of lineup announcements you can see coming from miles and miles away.
Orpik on the wing is not one of 'em.

For some reason, I'm interested in seeing how Orpik does on the wing. Should we be scared if he scores not one, but two goals, tonight?
Isn't there some sort of reason the Pens can't call those guys up that they just sent down? For some reason I thought there was something about number of days certain types of players had to stay down after being sent down?

Nah. Some guy named Freeptop said Nasreddine would need to pass through some kind of waiver, but I dunno how thats applicable as he's on a 2-way contract.
I also asked if he would be heartbroken should another team claim him. He sat unsigned last summer as a UFA for 19 days, after all.
I bet Therrien finds a way to regularly feature him in our defence and sit Brooks.
If any of you know Ray Shero, ask him to get behind the bench if they're not sure who to hire next. He couldn't possibly do worse than dissension, terrible bench management, and stunting the development of the team.
Jim Colony just mentioned something I wrote earlier, which is the close proximity of WB/S to new Jersey. That doesn't matter if Therrien and Savard think they know better than Ray.
I bet Nasreddine is within 3 minutes of Malkin's ice time tonight.
i'd like to see nas a lot more. i thought the way they handled him toward the end of the year last year was just awful. the guy did nothing but play great defense on a team that plays bad defense. i really hope they keep him floating around, even when everyone is healthy and beech can join the team and everything clears up... keep him up as a 7th defenseman and let him and orpik battle it out. orpik is going to be a UFA this summer and he's going to demand more than we should give him, and other teams out there will give it to him. i say sign eaton, let orpik go, make a move for that dman we need, and have one of the best 7th dman in the league floating around. he could take time off of guys injured, not playing well, sydor, whatever next year. but you'll only know that if he starts playing this season.
I swear, Jay Pandolfo is to us what Morozov was to the Devils.
The Free Center Ice week preview is going to make me realize why I could never get it. I'll be up until 1 watching games. It's going to be so sweet to check out the Flyer, Ranger, and Islander scores on your TV. WOOO
Nas has to go through waivers to go down to the AHL, but not to come back up, so the pens can't send him down.
The pens have a full roster ,so they can't call anyone else up, and Beech and Armstrong not playing were last minute suprises.
The pens have 20 active skaters, but Therrien didn't want to play 7 d-men and shortchange his fourth line, thus the situation we see now.
Not "good", but nothing more than a minor inconvenience.
i hate seven oclock games, they fuck up the routine of watching jeopardy at seven while eating dinner before the game starts

If Sabourin starts tomorrow, i'm murdering someone. There's just no reason for Conklin not to start against the Thrashers. He didn't face a ton of shots tonight and he had four days of rest after the Flyers game.
Hey, guys, can we lay off Brooksy? He played damn well tonight, and he deserves every moment he play on that ice. Eaton (and Gonch) may be my top guys on D, but Orrpik definitely plays well. Enough is enough, give the man a break. If you insult anyone, let it be on Recchi or someone who has hurt us bad this season.

Big win for the Pens tonight! I'm tired of everyone saying we have no shot without Crosby. Hopefully this huge road wins shuts them up.
First of all, PittHockey, it's Robert Johnson Memorial Arena, known simply as, "The Badger." It will be located at 66 Lemieux Place, which will be moved to accommodate the new arena. Above the main entrance will be a huge marble arch inscribed with the words, "It's a great day for hockey."
Also, in my fantasy word an enormous statue of Mario Lemieux will stand over the Fort Pitt Tunnel, like the Colossus of Rhodes.
Second, those Mike Lange sound clips are unreal. I have been searching and searching and searching for literally years for those. I found some once but they were corrupt. Those files are about 10 minutes away from becoming ringtones on my phone (and SnoopyJode, if these work, I'll have an e-mail out to you with attachments post haste.)
Third, the NHL is offering a free trial of Center Ice Online through 2/4/08. Tonight I did something I haven't done in nigh on 7 years, I watched a Penguins game in my living room. Hallelujah, it was fucking awesome.
I don't have cable and I didn't want to pay a ton of money for cable just so I can pay a ton of money on top of that for Center Ice. This online thing is great because I can watch it no matter where I am and it wasn't that bad.
Though I was hoping to be able to use the feed from 105.9 The X's website with Mike Lange and Phil Bourque, but it was actually ahead of the online feed, though I understand it's delayed from the regular feed. Oh well.
Stigey and Errey weren't that bad... oh, okay, yes they were.
Fourth, great news about Gary Roberts.

That was great..I was working near Newark, and made it to the game. That is an awesome arena. I can't wait till Pens newie gets built. Problem: ALL the lower levels were bought up by Corporations, real fans had to sit up high. Honestly, the upper half was far more packed than the lower half. Lower was 1/3 to 1/2 empty..really. Sent some phots in..hope they get used.
Neobarbarian, I hope you watched your wallet when you left the arena. The area outside the arena is horrible.
