.........................................................................

Shades of Old NHL. PENS LOSE.
December 5, 2006

Erik Christensen (officially The Pensblog's "boy") got a puck past Florida goalie Alex Auld on the powerplay to give the Pens a rare 1-0 lead. Not to be outdone, the Panther's ageless wonder, Gary Roberts, scored on a jobber rebound to tie it up. Nice first period of hockey.

.......................................................

Seth at [Empty Netters] has more of a preview as always.

.......................................

One of our BFF's on the internet-[Barry Melrose Rocks] has some good round-ups of links to pass some time.
.................................

What a day of sports.

The recap won't be up until after the Steeler game, unless they stink up the joint in the first half.
.................................

Go Pens.

Go Steelers

Go your mom

4 way tie for #1 star of the game:

Dennis LaRue
Wes McCauley
Lonnie Cameron
Scott Cherrey

Thanks, refs!

It's weird to see the zebras actually helping out the Pens for a change....

why would staal feel horrible about kennedy scoring? i would imagine he feels pretty good that the team is scoring.

Anonymous said...

gene? nah, i do not think that is going to fly. it's geno, not gene. that fuck emrick always calls him gene and it's annoying.

did errey say something like "the way ruutu plays pisses people off?" i could be wrong, but i swear i heard "pisses" somewhere.

also, he once again didn't fail by saying something stupid as in the fight with ference and saying he might have to fight that other guy because ference and him are boys.

Looks like florida wasnt able to recover from that awful national anthem and pens capitalized on it. Who else was there that thought that the anthem was garbage? Even the Mellon wasn't really 'rocking' untill the 3rd. It just killed the opening vibe.

Great win. Florida was playing their 3rd in 4 nights. These are the games that good teams win.
If Colby starts finishing that line will put up some nasty numbers. Malkin should still playe center, but with our current wing options for Sid, you almost have to keep him there. At least until Malone finds his scoring hands again.

Awesome game :) With tonights Conk block, he deserves to wear #35 :D

It was interesting to take my brothers gf to her first hockey game. I never realised how much shit there is in hockey that new watchers wouldn't understand :/

Hey guys, start put the recap on at halftime. Ben and the Steelers are jokes.

Can I request a new post on Big Batch News? I'm sure Chaz has something to say about Big Choke's 3 INTs in the first half.

So I guess we should be expecting that recap soon...

(Still have faith I swear)

Ouch. That call on Holmes for not maintaining control of the ball after he caught that pass was complete BS. How else do u that? I thought he did a good job on showing he had control of it. Whatev. Ben threw some dumb interceptions. Eh I'd have to agree with the Pens recap to appear soon....

Conk Block and the accompanying photoshop are Bermanesque. I should say Bermanesque before he decided to eat yeast and lose his hair.

Ben's choking so much i think he has a dick in him mouth!

Anonymous said...

how do u call holding on a player when he was just pushing and doing his job?

bad call #2 against us. thanks refs. we needed those 2 extra points.

That was indeed the worst rendition of the national anthem I've ever heard. Someone needs to tell that chick the Star Spangled Banner is a celebratory song..... not a funeral dirge.

Stoosh said...

The Steelers' defense may have just gagged this one away, letting Garrard get loose like that. Ouch.

Can Roethlisberger take this team aout 40-50 yards in 29 seconds with no timeouts?

Stoosh said...

Nevermind...

Trai Essex had help from Davenport and STILL got beat...forced fumble on the sack and Jacksonville sends the Steelers home.

Wow...

I haven't seen a turnstile impression that solid since the Flyers defense last year.

Jonny V said...

And when does a Center get called for holding EVER? On a two point conversion no less. And Melvin or Hebrew or whatever the hell u call yourself, nothing in this world is more of a joke than your life. At least there are some people out there that like the Steelers. Can u say the same about yourself?

And with that I'm out.

Gotta love Tomlin and the Steelers playing not to lose by running a QB screen with Ben at the end of the game. The only true sports superstar in this town is Sir Sidney

jim said...

wow, from today's pg:

the Maple Leafs' Mark Bell will be thinking for some time about his go-round with Malone in the Penguins' 6-2 win Thursday. Bell was left with a broken orbital bone that will require surgery and force him out indefinitely

Eric K said...

Tomlin had to leave the game at half time, causing the Stillers downfall. A neighbor called and said a mysterious man wearing a black #10 Penguins jersey was railing his wife in the living room....

Anonymous said...

.....trying to run the clock out with 4 minutes left and no running back.... JOKE.

John said...

Hebrew I am not sure you were actually watching the game, the Steelers never ran a QB screen but I will assume you were talking about the draw. But yes Tomlin was playing not to lose, because if you hadn't noticed (which I am guessing you hadn't) the Steelers defense had stopped Jacksonville on every drive in the second half up to that point. So was it that bad of a decision to put faith in the defense once again? Ben also fought back and threw 3 TD's in the second half without any shred of a running game and one of the worst offensive lines the Steelers have had in a decade. Just because you don't like how much media coverage the Steelers get doesn't mean you should act like the Penguins are all high and mighty. Are the Steelers covered way to much and with way to much depth? Absolutely. Some people in this city are smart enough to know when to ignore that ridiculous media coverage and shocking as it is, be a Penguins (or even a Pirates) fan as well as a Steeler fan. You Mark Madden wannabes piss me off. You do realize that you treat the Penguins exactly how you want people to stop treating the Steelers right?

that anthem was mud

Hebrew hammer, I hated the call too but it was a sweep maybe a draw. A screen is a type of pass, you know what a pass is right?
Roethlisberger played a crap first half, that's obvious, but without a man of Gary Roberts' ilk on the o-line Ben had no chance. It's amazing he's not dead. What Ben did this year is incredible considering how little he had to work with.
I bet there's still more Steelers off season coverage than Pens coverage in the local media, which is crap. I'm glad I can focus entirely on hockey now.
I moved here from NJ when Lemieux came out of retirement so I could watch all the Penguins, and Steelers games. I had no idea the in-fighting between fans was so ridiculous in this city.
