We Guarantee A Mediocre Post

An April Fools Joke that Laraque and Armstrong pulled last season.

AFTERMATH

Script plays out to perfection. [ The Province ]

Did the shootout ruin the game? [ Canucks Corner ]
We are anxiously awaiting to see what our good friend [ Yankee Canuck ] thought about the game.

And, of course, Canucks fans were complaining about Sid getting that penalty shot in overtime.
They were also complaining about Sabu "throwing" his stick in the shootout.

.......................................................................

With the whole Recchi thing going on, it made us wonder what the hell goes on when a player goes on waivers.

We found this explanation on some message board.

In order to reassign or loan an NHL roster player to another league (e.g. AHL), the player must pass through "waivers." If a player is placed on the waiver wire, the other NHL teams have a chance to claim the player. After November 1, the priority order is determined by standings as of the time the player is placed on waivers in reverse order of percentage (PCT) of points earned to total points available for each team. Prior to November 1, the order is based on the final PCT standings from the previous regular season.

The only thing this doesn't answer is, how is the pecking order of teams who get a shot at a player on waivers handled?

Is there a global e-mail structure?
Does someone from the NHL call each team one-by-one to see if they're interested in a player?

Or do all teams interested in claiming the player submit a claim,
and if no one before them claimed the player, then the player is theirs?

The Hockey News may be one of the more pessimistic entities covering the NHL.
Here they are, telling you the NHL is eroding again. [ The Hockey News ]
They churn out one of these articles every week.

Wow. Good eye on that Verizon ad... I never would have caught that.

only 6 teams have losing records right now. that's pretty amazing.

that just doesn't seem right, does it? 30 teams, playing each other, and only 6 have lost more than they won.

And the Atlantic division is the tightest race top-to-bottom, only 5 points separate first and last (and last-place Isles have a game-in-hand over the top-ranked Devils).

Verizon sucks.

Can't wait for tomorrow's stop in Philly. What a great feeling it has been... after going through a considerable amount of adversity.

This is why Mike Tomlin is a big deal. What a coach.

Go Pens.
Go Steelers.

I'm not so much of an idiot that I'd compare anything in fantasy games to real life, but pretty much when someone is on waivers in a fantasy league, everyone can put a claim in, but the lowest person with the waiver priority gets him.

And Tomlin had me when in the preseason, he responded to Deion Sanders' question of "Do you feel any pressure trying to replace Bill Cowher?" with "Pressure is a man trying to feed his family." Sanders was speechless. For one of the few times in history.

i sort of forgot that we're 0-2 against the scumbag flyers this season. i'd like to see us light them up big tomorrow night. historically sid has had some of his biggest games against them (rookie OT win, last year hat trick).

anyone know what kind of huddle/hop/chant was going on after the win in vancouver? i felt bad sabu was left out of that.

jonny v - definitely my favorite tomlin quote so far. what a person.

i'm calling a big night for sid tomorrow vs the cryers...he's been shut out for 2 games, got stoned by luongo twice in penalty shots, AND has had two whole days to think about it. he's bringing it in philly tomorrow.

verizon = joke.

WIlliam: i saw that somewhere as well. as sick as that move is, it's a trick and its my belief that its not really talent. i mean, with enough time and patience eventually a hockey player would be able to do that. maybe i'm wrong. in any case, good for him. i'm not trying to job some 9 yr old kid.

Tomlin is a class act, regardless of what sport he's coaching.

i hope that Sabu got his props in the locker room, and i wouldn't be surprised if his #1 fan sat night was MAF himself, cause MAF is a good dude like that.

i cant wait to crush the Flyers.

tomorrow night, it'll will have been 363 days since Crosby's 'big night' against Philly when he took over the scoring race for good. imagine if the same thing happened again?

Letang needs to be on the flash bar

wilsmith said...

Yeah I don't want to bust the kid either, but since that Hisey video popped up a couple years ago, people have been mastering that move.

I'd be more impressed by how solid of a skater he looks.

John said...

i wouldnt mind the whole team being on the flashbar personally

That article on how the shootout made the game bad is the stupidest thing I have ever seen. That guy is just a whiney vancouver fan.

Teams have 24 hours to submit a waiver claim. It doesn't matter what order or when the teams submit a claim; as long as it's in the 24 hour window (noon to noon). So, let's say the Penguins submitted a claim for a player on waivers at 4pm. Then, at 11am the next day, Washington submits a claim for the same player. Washington would get the player because of their smaller points percentage.

I think all teams are notified when a player goes on waivers and then they have 24 hours to act on it and alert the league they are interested.
