First things first.
:: Pens call up Taffe, and William Wallace. [pp.com]
:: JB breaks it down: [Baby Pens]
It's a Cinderella story for Wallace. He arrived at camp as an undrafted tryout in 2006, played a year on an AHL contract, spent some time in Wheeling, slowly and steadily working his way up the ladder to where he is now. For those in Pittsburgh unfamiliar with his game, he plays a simple, physical style. Get pucks deep and punish defensemen. Nothing more complicated than that.

:: The dreams of Habs fans have been put on hold. [NHL.com]
As you know, we have deep roots in wrestling.
So we have had some talks with some Washington Caps fans about entering an Unholy Alliance, or as our friend J.R. used to say.

A THREE WAY DANCE.
This one time only pact would bring Pens/Caps fans together to try and stun the world and get A.O. into the top three of the All Star voting.
Yes, A.O. is a jackoff, but a Sid-Malkin-A.O line in the All Star game would be a lot of fun on almost every level. Not to mention it would completely humiliate Habs fans.
A.O. is trailing big time, so this would take one of the biggest efforts since President Whitmore brought the nations together in Indenpence Day.
Whitmore is standing by.
But we are calling for an emergency Pensblog readers vote.
Do we get the ball rolling or not?

Wallace's reaction to the news? "Chills," he said. "It’s definitely what I’ve been trying to do since I was a little kid. To hear it, it’s a great feeling."
Good stuff.:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

nahh.
go pens.
as much as i hate A.O. this is the all star game and that means sid-geno-ovie on a line. the added bonus of embarrassing habs fans just makes it even better.
DO IT.
Wow, I actually starting thinking about this yesterday when Malkin got into the top three. My reasoning was: now that our two stars are in place, who deserves the third spot?
As annoying as AO is, we all know that he is easily one of the top three forwards in the East. Vote yes, Pens fans, and let's drop the hammer on MTL.
GO PENS.
Alexei Kovalev has absolutely no business starting in an all star game. Like the post said... AO is extremely annoying but he is at least the third best player in the world. He works as hard or harder than anyone and he shouldn't be cheated out of his due. He is by far the best winger in the league. If kovy scores anywhere near half the goals Ovie scores this year I'd be extremely suprised.
With that said, watching Malkin layout his own linemate in the All Star game would be amazing. Vote AO or you are doing a disservice to hockey fans everywhere. Nobody wants to watch a Canadien hockey player except a Hab fan.
everyone wants to see AO. ish.
EAST WON. ERIC STAAL WON MVP. BAM.
absolutely. AO deserves to start. none of the Habs do.
I normally don't get worked up over All-Star Games (QUICK! Who won last year's game and who was the MVP?).
But the NHL All Star Game is supposed to be a celebration of the best players in hockey, not a celebration of the current roster of the team throwing it's 100th birthday party all season.
This is in no way a dig at the Habs. Montreal is one of my favorite non-Penguins clubs in the league. But every Habs fan should admit that the NHL has gone well out of its way to make sure your 100th season is being both well recognized and well publicized.
It's a big deal. The Habs are a franchise that drips with tradition.
But let's face it. Right now, in the context of what the All Star Game is supposed to be about, it's f'ing stupid that Ovie is third in the league in scoring with 35 points and he's well behind a group of three forwards - Koivu, Kovalev and Tanguay - who don't even crack the league's Top 50 scorers.
@ Pockets -
Sorry about that. I was editing the comment.
My guess is that you probably had to look that up, though, right?
FUCK OVECHKIN
Remember all this next time he's running the shit out of Geno trying to ruin his career.
Just sayin. I do hate the Habs though
no way, I hate the Caps and AO way more than the canadien mounties
is this a joke?
why dont we vote semin in too while we're at it?
after you vote for Ovechkin stick a revolver in your mouth and pull the trigger
Actually, I have already been voting for AO. Love or hate him, he is as good (but not better) than Crosby and Malkin. And he has a real passion for the game, I can respect that. I can't respect him jobbing Malkin on the ice, but sometimes that is part of the game. Cheating your way into the All-Star game is not.
PensBlog is right, a line of Bing, Malk and AO would be insane. Who doesn't want to see that just once?
Ovechkin deserves it. It's been a joy getting to see him play in person multiple times already this season.
DO IT.
I've been voting for AO for this same reason anyways. Every vote from me so far has been Sid, Geno, AO. Who cares about the D and goalies, those races are lost anyways.
vote patrick kane in the west too, get datsyuk or zetterberg out
big YES. I like Kovy but like you said, those 3 mentioned here SHOULD be the starters.
Anybody going to the game tonight? I'm going to be there. Let me know if you are so I know that when I yell "FREE CANDY" somebody will get it.
When someone asks you if you want to join a secret alliance, you always reply, "absolutely I do."
I'm in.
keep the priority on sid and geno though. the habs fans will keep voting.
the fact that this has been suggested is slightly disturbing.
Yes, yes, yes, a million times yes. Next stop: Gonchar/Whitney defensive pairing.
I'd say malkin/bing/AO line gets 6+ goals. bing with like 18 assists.
Without a doubt I'd love to crush the dreams of Habs fans out of spite. :) I've been voting for Bing, Geno and AO each time. So this is noooo problem with me. That line combination would be really entertaining, I think... I *might* actually watch the all star game if that's the starting line.
A.O is A.O and The Montreal Canadiens are knuckleheads..simple as that.
Do it.
Ovechkin is still Russian for Douchebag in my book but, the d-bagger's got talent. I started voting for him once Malkin broke the top 3. I feel bad ending my votes for Staalsy but there's no way we could catch him up by January.
I will still pressure you all to vote for Orpik and Scudsy. And by pressure, I mean punch you.
(Also, I've been voting Marty Turco like woah just for the funny factor.)
I hate the Caps, and especially Ovechkin more than the Canadiens. If I could take votes away from Ovechkin I would. No way am I voting for that ugly asshat. My hatred for that man is too great. I can't do it.
AO deserves to start. Period.
Plus this would make it easier for Malkin to upstage him.
WOOOOO.
We do realize that Ovechikin is right around 309,000 votes from third place?
Caps fans are going to have to stop being pathetic if you want to pull this off. And you know how pathetic Caps fans are.
Staff, are you going to get any work out of Charlie today, or did he call in sick in support of "Day Without A Gay"?
I say vote in AO. He's ridiculously entertaining. Maybe he, Sid and Geno could pull a trifecta on Hossa in the corner.
i get the reasoning for wanting to vote for AO, but AO and malkin are not friends. who do we want to torture more? i wouldn't want to play w/ someone i hated. (olympics is different)
i say we wait till after the jan. caps/pens game to make a decision.
I say do it but make sure he doesn't pass Sid or Geno.
I've been voting Ovie/Staal anyways.
I am voting for Orpik/Letang as my d-men (sorry BNG).
who's the next closes? let vote for him. i can just see this bite us (or rather malkin) in the ass.
@ Stoosh
Actually I was on the Bus on my cell phone's internet. Its when I read the Pensblog daily. I actually knew that off the top of my head cuz I was one of the 3 people who watched the ASG all the way through last year and I remember Staal and his truck on the ice. Savard had the GWG. Sweet wrister from the slot.
I don't like Habs fans as much as the next guy but I don't like AO either. Count me out.
okay this might just be me....but im all for helping A.O. hate the guy but he has great skill and should be in the top 3 if caps fans werent busy touching dudes but as stilly says hes still around 300,000 votes away now gonch whitney and MAF is all around 100,000 votes why dont we focus on them and shut out the habs all together??? i mean come on if i have to see carey price in net in the first itll be vomit city
Lets add a condition to this alliance.
We get Ovechkin in, they get Fleury in !
Just imagine a Malkin Crosby Ovechkin line.
Take a second to let that sink in.
As long as they don't kill each other, they will RAPE.
Ovechkins a dick, we all know that. But we also all know that Ovechkin is top 3 forwards in the league. Put them in any order you want, we all know Crosby Geno and AO are the best players in the league right now, and the best players to come around for a while.
Not to mention, maybe this would start a new friendship between Malkin and Ovechkin.
Building bridges by raping Osjoke.
Sounds good to me.
I've been voting for Crosby, Malkin, A.O., Whit, Gonch, Fleury, and then anyone who isn't a Red Wing in the West.
One more thing.
Voting no for this is just plain dumb.
Are we as bad as Montreal fans? I mean, we started our fight against Montreal to correct an injustice. That injustice was that their players don't deserve to be there. Well who does deserve to be there? Malkin, Crosby, AO. Not voting for them makes us just as bad as Montreal fans.
Bengui's on the right track... don't forget the net. I personally would love to see a Hab-free ASG.
Rhyming is lame.
1) I'm against this whole AO thing. We don't need caps fans to help seal up sid and geno's spots. Who cares who gets the third spot on the starting line. As Pens fans we should never do anything at all to help the caps.
Also, in case anyone is interested, I found out why AO hates Malkin. My roomate is good friends with Igor Larionov's daughter who dated AO in the recent past. Ovie claims that Malkin stole a former girlfriend from him and "betrayed" him or some shit. That's what led to his punching Geno's agent on the street in Moscow a couple years ago and all the head hunting on the ice.
2) Glad to see Taffe back up and encouraging stuff about Wallace. Still, I'm pissed that Therrien refused to give Peso a chance. We'll never know if he can play at this level when he's playing 2:55 a game alongside the scoring machine that is Eric Godard.
I hate ovechkin enough to vote no to this. I think it would make it worse for GENO in the future. A.O. would know more about how GENO works, and I don't think I like that idea.
Also, I have a dumb question. I'm seeing that in order to be in the running for the ALL Star Line-up, a player must have played at least 20 games by January 2, 2009. Gonchar and Whitney won't get in 20 games this season by the 2nd. So won't the habs have the starting defensemen on the team anyways? No one has mentioned that. Any insight would be appreciated.
dudes we should absolutely do this. Ovie sux for gunning Geno , but apart from that he's one of the best. Plus- it will show that Pens fans are good sports. But I do like the idea that we ask for caps fans to vote in Fleury!
Ovechkin is nekulturny. He actively tries to ruin the career of one of the Pen's best players because of an AGENT? Nekulturny pizdyuk. Hell, vote Todd Bertuzzi in too while you're at it. Only diff is that Bertuzzi succeeded.
I can see your point kstewy, but I can't do it.
I don't judge anybody else for doing it though.
Just sayin'
cant - Maybe a couple years ago - but the guy is an uber cock. i would rather him crying at not being voted in.
All for it. The three best players in the East should be the three starting forwards, hands down.
Staff, get a MAF vote going like you did for Geno, we need him in the starting line-up!
I can see where AO's girlfriend would want to jump in the sack with Geno. AO might be the ugliest MF'er in the league. If Ovechkin is trying to ruin Geno over some broad he's a bigger dick than I could ever imagine.
You're ugly AO. Get over it.
I gave OV .5 of a vote.
He only plays on .5 the ice, anyways.
[Gov. Blagojokeivch]
I'm in on this. AO's better than anyone in the East other than Sid and Malkin, so he deserves to be there. There's nothing more to it in my mind.
If Geno and AO hate each other that much, they can be placed on seperate lines after the opening faceoff.
And, I'd hate to lend any credibility to the comment that AO might find something out about Malkin by being on his line, but if he wants to learn his tendencies he'll learn more by watching video than being on his line in an exhibition game. Besides, AO doesn't play defense.
I've been splitting my third vote between Ovechkin and Staal anyway. I like Ovie less and less every day, but it would be ridiculous for him not to be there. Who knows, maybe this will force Ovie to grow a pair and move on. Or at least remember the good old times.
Don't forget Fleury still has 126228 votes to catch up to Price.
And while we're at it, get Hossa out of the top three! I'm voting Iginla/Getzlaf/Kane, Phaneuf/Campbell, and Nabokov.
Hmmmm, I wonder what Geno would say about this??
I'd be worried about Ovie and Geno getting in a knife fight during first intermission. Otherwise, I'm all for it.
fuck AO
are we forgetting about him running geno at every fucking turn? hell no. no way should we team up with that clown. and dont get me started on the caps bullshit fanbase,. they scream conspiracy at every turn.
If someone asks you if you're a God, you say YES!
not sure if anyone got this out there yet.. but the NHL09 alternate jersey code is here.
xe6377uyrwm48frf
go pens.
This is a should we or shouldn't we question that kind of makes you sick.
However, think of the supreme advantage this would give us over the Capitals fans.
"Oh hey, remember when we had to vote your star player into the all-star game."
AO is a douche though.
Let's get A-O the douche in! Only thing is I hope Malkin punches him in the head a few times while they are playing each other in the coming up games!
wilsmith has it right: There's not a single secret alliance that's not worth joining.
(As secret as an alliance can be after being proposed on one of the most heavily trafficked hockey blogs on the net, anyway)
My ballots have been looking like this:
EAST
Bing
Gino
Ovie
Scuds
Letang
Fleury
WEST
Iginla
Kane
Toews
Boyle
Campbell
Nabokov
Ovechkin is a giant douche and Malkin hates him, but the prospect of ruining the life of Habs fans outweighs my disdain for the man personally. Unlike stoosh, I find it difficult to tolerate Montreal fans. Destroying their little fun and games is too joyful a prospect to pass up.
I must've accounted singlehandedly for about one-third of all Scuderi's votes.
My motivations are similar for the West, to wit: disappointing Red Wings fans. I want to at least keep Iginla in second and maybe even him help catch Hossa. I want to see if I can help Kane and/or Towes catch Zetterberg and Datsyuk.
Similarly, I want to keep Campbell ahead of Rafalski and see if Boyle can catch him.
Voting for Nabokov is a simple act of justice, though. There's no way Elroy should be ahead of him for anything, except in the voting for "Whiny Inept Overrated Crybaby"
Kane needs to be in the top 3 in the West as well. He's only 29000 behind Datsuck. We need to get on that as well. SO doable.
iginla needs to overtake hossa
knocking out all the wings would be solid
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
Don't Do It
remember what happens in wrestling when the good guy and the bad guy work together, we'd get out there and AO would give Gino Walls of Jericho when we least except it
IF we want to REALLY piss off Canadiens fans, we should vote in one of the Bruins... they hate nothing more than the fact that Boston is better than them this year
Vote Marc Savard ... it will piss off Canadiens fans even more than AO, and we don't have to sell our souls to the devil
Jesus.
TOEWS. Not Towes.
Ignore all my comments about hockey. I'm an idiot.
haha joe sakic broke 3 fingers in a "snowblower accident"
didnt sakic just like throw out his back from lifting weights or somethings?
shitty deal
joe sakic broke 3 fingers in a "snowblower accident"
Daniel Alfredsson wanted for questioning...
(I suspect "snowblower" is his nickname after all. Or maybe just his safe word.)
didnt sakic just like throw out his back from lifting weights or somethings
Marty Straka added to the suspect list...
My preference is for none of the Wings to make it in. I'd much rather they had the extra days off. It seems to happen more often these days that players try to get out of it with miscellaneous "injuries". I don't want any of the RWs to get injured but I sure would be happy if they all got a long weekend.
But I do have to admit that it is an injustice that Osgood's vote total is as high as it is. You can argue all you want about whether the other Wings deserve it, or deserve to start. But based on this year, Osgood DOES NOT deserve to be in Montreal. That would be a joke. He needs to spend the extra time and work with his goaltending gurus to get his game back on track.
Hey guys, i'm looking for two tickets to either the Toronto or Tampa Bay coming up close to Christmas. I'm coming home from college and wanted to take in a game. Anyone know a cheap place to find them? Besides stubhub or the pens site?
As big of a douche as AO is, if he did get in to the ASG, that line could be unstoppable...maybe even scary.
I've voted for Talbot every time, not going to lie...but I'm sure it's having little to no impact.
Plus, if he's on our team, he can't go after Geno.
Soooooo...I'm in.
Go Pens.
that's too bad for Joe Cool.
he is/was such a class act.
He's in my top 5 of fav's donning #19:
Yzerman [my idol]
Whitney
Pronovost
Sakic
Willy Lindstrom
I totally proposed this like two days ago.
I'm obviously in.
@ Red Wings and anyone who commented on Osgood
It doesn't matter how many votes he gets as long as he's not the top vote-getter
The fans only vote on the starting lineup, and the rest are up to the writers
Vote Savard, not AO
That fact that fleuryous said to vote for Ovechkin is enough of a reason to NOT vote for him...
Either way, there's no way that he can make up the gap, it's just too much
@ Raybin -
I never said I like Montreal FANS. I've always had a good bit of respect for the team and the jersey. But I do agree...there isn't a fanbase with a greater sense of entitlement than the Habs fanbase. Even Leafs fans aren't as bad.
That fact that fleuryous said to vote for Ovechkin is enough of a reason to NOT vote for him...
haha.
@ Fleuryous -
Not sure what you mean by...
Plus, if he's on our team, he can't go after Geno.
It's not like AO is going to play for the West if he doesn't get in as a starter for the East.
Thanks, diabeticsRcooler. Good to know because Osgood has been Osbad this year.
Now I'm off to watch Conklin blank the Flames tonight at the Joe.
Catch you guys later.
RedWings, I forgot about you. You're always an exception to everything I say about Red Wings fans. :)
@stoosh
Oops...you're right! Sorry about that...reading comprehension was never my strong suit.
And I say commit to the fleuryous.
haha, I know stoosh, but I was just adding that if people weren't sure to vote for him. I'll admit it's annoying when he goes over Geno, but if AO gets voted in and they're on the same team, they could do big things.
That line would be sick.
Thanks, Raybin. I'd rather commit to the Raybin, but that could just be me...and everyone else on this board. haha.
the enemy of my enemy is my friend...
Why is Sabou starting? He played Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Monday. Now if this was fleury and he had played amazing in them all, that would be one thing, but Sabous a backup, and he's had a couple bad games in there.
If AO and Malkin are in the same lockerroom Malkin's gonna have to keep his head on a swivel. AO is such a douche that he might take a run at Malkin while he's taking a piss or something. Can't have geno zip up and get the beans stuck above the franks like Ben Stiller. AO can stay out of the starting line up, die of gonorhea and rot in hell.
@ fleuryous:
Heavens girl! Who haven't you voted for every time?
In return for OV starting, the Caps fans should vote Gonchar in as Caps alumni and as a player who hasn't stepped on the ice this year to prove the idiocy of fan voting.
I think a more appropriate wrestling reference would be Hulk Hogan (AO) turning heel to join the Hall (Malkin) and Nash (Crosby). Too sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
