Gone Baby Gone

Before we begin, let us remember our old friend Mark Recchi.
He is done as a Penguin. [Trib ]

"Recchi, 39, was placed on waivers Tuesday before the Penguins' traveled to Edmonton, where they will open a four-game road trip against the Oilers tonight."

The folks up in Edmonton are awaiting Crosby's arrival. [ Edmonton Sun ]

First he'll proceed to a special press conference at the team hotel [ Tuesday ] afternoon.
He'll also have special pre-game and post-game press conferences tomorrow as well.

It'll be the same drill in Calgary and Vancouver minus the hotel press conference to launch the closest thing there is to a royal visit in hockey in the new millennium.

-- The internet praises Sidney Crosby [ TSN ]

There are websites and blogspots: wheressidney.com, sidneycrosby.se, sidney-crosby.info. They're bursting with information (Crosby had an 85 per cent average in Grade 11) and worshipful images (Crosby's face put on Matt Damon's body on a "Bourne Identity" movie poster to make it "The Bourne Scorer") to go with desktop art, screensavers and contests.

We're used to being snubbed, because some sites out there refuse to recognize us as a hockey blog, which is fine by us.

Jerry Scott, the maker of the "Bourne Scorer" Photoshop = Stunned.

We contacted the Canadian Press and notified them of our lack of mention.
They said they have updated the article to the wire, whatever that means.

Pens are 19th.

-- Pens are 20th at [ Yahoo ]

-- On November 27, [ James Mirtle ] did a stats projection for this season.

He found something very interesting.

The Pens are one pace for a negative-26 change in points, second worst, only to Buffalo.
The Pens are also on pace to score 36 less goals than they scored last year.

And the kicker: The Pens are on pace to give up as many goals this year as they did last year.

So, is goaltending the problem?

Everyone is up in arms about the BCS in college football.
Thankfully, there's a smart-ass out there who knows there is a Winter Classic on Jan. 1.
[ Eye Weekly ] via [ Kukla's Korner ]

" At least, on Jan. 1, the NHL’s televising that outdoor hockey game in Buffalo, that “Winter Classic” between the Penguins and Sabres — because, the way it stands right now, watching Syd the Kid skate through a snowstorm is looking like superior New Year’s Day entertainment than anything college football’s gonna provide. "

That typo had to have been done on purpose. No one is that stupid.

AFTERMATH

[tor.<span class=

Talbot putting on Sidney Crosby's gear for a gameday skate on Saturday morning garnered a lot of attention.

Some humorless people weren't so amused. [ TSN comments ]

= Harmless, but distasteful. Fooling school children is pretty cheap.

= Classless of the Pens. I like jokes too, but I don't think school children found that very funny. Anyways, I'm losing more and more respect for Sid by the day.

= That was downright foolish and classless. Not funny at all.

The best:

Maxime who? If I were a no-name player for a one-man franchise, I'l probably focus more on making my own name more popular. I'm sure he got a rush out of thinking that people were actually cheering for him, and not his false identity. What an ego-boost..

Thanks to "TC" for sending that along.

[ Canucks Corner ] jumped into the NHL blogging discussion:

I'm really tired of the unsupported criticism - advanced in the story by Kevin Allen - about the lack of accountability and journalistic ethics in the blogosphere. First, I think my readers hold me accountable. Every time I make a mistake, I hear about it in spades and so does everyone who reads the comments on the blog. Second, if this really is a problem, it is time to name names instead of throwing it out as a general criticism. Which post or blogger violates or has violated the ethics of hockey journalism? Who has been irresponsible? Which opinion falls outside the boundaries of fair comment? Support the criticism with some evidence or shut up about it.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

It is going to be a long next couple of days.

when i read on Sarah Marince's myspace that her genre is country, i did a quick look at the "R's" section of her friends list. My suspicions were confirmed: She's definitely friends with Ron Newcomer.

i kinda had the same reaction when i read about Max's stunt because there were, like, 150,000 in paid attendence.

all the same, it doesn't make it any less funny. it was a harmess prank. if people didnt pay and there were only a few hundred people there, this would be a non-story.

what it really comes down to and people trying to douche Crosby any way they can. they're called jealous losers.

How about that as of last night's game, the Senators have now gone down 7 straight times.

...wait for it....

Much like Pensblog Charlie.

Any ideas who will replace Recchi on the roster?

So someone is losing more and more respect for Sid because Max decided to do a Sid impression? Tell me, how is that Sid's fault? I'm not sure of all the details of what happened, but maybe Sid wasn't even around - after all, he didn't practice - or maybe he didn't know it happened until it was all said and done.

This western Canada trip couldn't come at a worse time...the Edmonton game starts at 10:30 tonight and I'm writing a 9 AM exam tomorrow.

Me = sleepy

SPENCEMO - From yesterday's posts, it's not I who has the thing for HP. She's cute, but I just can't get past the fact that she was Coach Yost's kid in "Remember The Titans". Gotta love HP, though...she's clearly aware of her status. As far as "celebrity crushes" go, I'm a big fan of Anna Paquin and Alyson Hannigan...some of the more under-the-radar types.

STOKES - You know how many football fans get fired up and practically start foaming at the mouth every time Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots are mentioned these days? Sidney Crosby is to the NHL what Tom Brady is to the NFL. Everyone - even non-football fans - have thoughts on Brady and the Pats this year. It's much the same with Crosby and the Pens in NHL circles.

Why is there always something that has to change with the game. There is nothing wrong with the current point system. People forget where it came from, there used to be ties in which each team got a point. Then they changed it to losing or a tie in overtime got you a point, winning got you two. I wouldn't be againts eliminating the point if the win was in the overtime period but if you make it to the shootout tie, you earned a point. And having a game completly decided on a shootout is just plain stupid.

I hope they never get rid of the overtime point. How stupid do you gotta be to think its confusing?

So Havlat plays for the pink team!?

Here is a quote from Rex's agent, Rick Curran from the PG....

"There's still a lot of hockey left in Mark Recchi"

Well Rick, if he does have a lot of hockey left in him, unfortunately, it's gonna be at a piss poor level!!

Perhaps if Rex had Sydor's attitude about being benched, people wouldn't be so harsh....

I tried to put this comment on TSN, but they wouldn't accept me....

These kids paid to see Sid take a practice skate. Max's prank or not, they would not be seeing Sid, as he elected to take the morning off.

Instead of being completely disappointed, they got to be a part of the day's major headline news, and a funny story to tell later in life. Looks win-win to me.....

i liked max and maf's prank. pretty funny if you ask me. people just want to job the pens and crosby whenever possible.

crosby drove thru a yellow light... stop the presses! crosby wreckless..

emdubs, i think it's pretty clear that Mr. Kennedy has replaced Recchi in the lineup...

With Talbot back healthy the Penguins have 13 forwards on the roster. They don't necessarily need to call-up another player, especially with the lower line guys like Laraque, Hall and Ruutu playing so well of late in their roles.

My guess though is that the next time a forward gets injured, probably one of Filewich or Stone will get the callup.

Stoosh-

when you put it that way, i compeltely understand the Sidney jobbing. that doesnt make it any better though.

i hate tom brady/belicheat/patriots ALMOST as much as i hate the flyers.

but i am not jealous of tom brady, as most of the league is jealous of crosby. i just hate him becuase he beat the steelers two and half times in the AFC Championship.

Anon 10:54- excellent point.

Esposito cannot even come up for the 9 freebees with the Pens now that he's been officially assigned to farm in his 1st year, right?

Toews has been given the "A" in Chicago
And he totally deserves it. The kid is an amazing player.

The Blackhawks are definately making a name for themselves just like the Pens have been doing. Their roster is just as young and when their talent hits full potential, lookout 91-92 Season part 2.

Perhaps Recchi should have been given a last chance as a 4th liner, but waivers is just as easy.

Hoping for a good win tonight! :D
