7:30pm

(4-1-1)
Season series:
Canes 1-0
Last meeting- Oct. 5:
4-1 beat down by Carolina

...........................................

After Wednesday's disaster, it is good to have a game a few nights later.
Everyone needs it.

The one drawback is the Canes are usually an awful matchup for the Penguins.
And also not to mention the tropical depressions are red hot.

Expect another job fest.

Pensblog staff gets to make the trip to old lady Mellon for this one.
Nothing quite like the Mellon Arena on a crisp October night.

Hopefully we are close enough to hit Rod "The Bod" Brind'Amour with a battery if things get out of hand.
............................................

Go Pens.

Even if Sabourin starts, I say the Fleury chant should happen anyway.

And that'd be awesome if they got the snowflakes back on the jumbotron.

That kid needs to get his confidence up.

Sabourin in net.

Game over before it begins.

The Hebrew Hammer said...

Have a great time at the game tonight guys.

GO PENS!!!

Pedro,

Why would you have a Fleury chant if he isn't even playing?

What sense does that make?

Chanting his name isn't going to improve his confidence. Making some big saves and getting a win will.

i'm SUPER jealous!!! have fun, guys!!! i can't wait for the recap.

Sabourin will ddt eric staal tonight

Through 1, the best players in black have been Gonchar (with his defensive play!?!), Malone, Recchi, and Sabourin.

Also, wasn't comment moderation supposed to be disabled during games?

The Hebrew Hammer said...

Ryan Whitney is playing Melichar esque tonight, he better get his head out of his ass and soon. Props to Sabu, he's played well and enabled us to come back and tie it up.

The refs have been making some rather questionable calls tonight, but at least they're going both ways.

The Hebrew Hammer said...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry right now.

3-3 heading into the third

DUDE! They just mentioned the Pensblog on the broadcast. Not by name but said that "there is a fanclub selling wristbands that say WWGD"

Sadly they missed the R in there, but still. Haha. :D

Anonymous said...

And steigy can't ponounce WWGRD while plugging this site. . .

Dwayne said...

Congratulations. The WWGRD bracelets are now famous, as per steigy's comments in the 3rd :D

Anonymous said...

steigy and errey were just talking about the wwgrd wristbands...you guys rock.

CaucasianInvasion said...

Holy shit! WWGRD wristband reference by Steigy!

Anonymous said...

They just mentioned the WWGRD wristbands on the TV telecast.

The Hebrew Hammer said...

Steiggy just brought up the WWGRD? armbands a few minutes ago.

Anonymous said...

Welcome to the big time!

Steigy just mentioned the WWGRD wrist bands....

And Recchi still playing way too much.

Oh, man...

I don't even want to *think* about the size of the "Dump Recchi" threads that are going to be on LGP...9_9

Anonymous said...

Pretty awesome to hear the WWGRD bracelets mentioned by steigy, best thing he's said all night.

Let's give Sabu a chance, I think he's done pretty well tonight.

Food for thought

Mark Recchi 20:58 (8:27 PP)
Mark Eaton 17:43
Gary Roberts 14:31
Erik Christensen 4:48

The Hebrew Hammer said...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, huge win!!! Tomorrow, an asskicking of the Caps to top off the weekend.

Anonymous said...

Great win

Get Recchi out of there, that late penalty could of cost us the game.

Some thoughts...

1. Did Christensen get hurt or get in the doghouse tonight or something? It didn't seem like his linemates - Ruutu and Hall - were missing a whole bunch of time. Sick goal on the shootout, though.

2. Kudos and plaudets to Sabourin for making me look like an ass with some of my anti-Sabourin comments in the previous thread. He was very good tonight.

3. Go with Fleury tomorrow night or stick with Sabourin? I think Sabourin earned another one tomorrow night, although I could see them going to Fleury so they aren't playing Sabourin two nights in a row.

4. To echo Anon's comments above, I'm sure there are several "Dump Malone" threads over at LGP as well right now, but that might be people conditioned to write them from last season. Malone's been very good this year so far, and I love that second line with him, Malkin and Staal.

5. The next time Steigy refers to Roberts as "Scary Gary", Roberts fires a water bottle from the bench to the booth and clocks Steigerwald in the mouth.

JimmyMo said...

he's got the look of a python, and the bite of a garter snake- bob errey

Anonymous said...

Stoosh,

It was Errey calling him 'scary gary'

Ruutu would often fill in for Roberts in the third line after a powerplay, and Hall put in time on the PK, so that left Christensen screwed on ice time

Adrienne said...

I love the fact that Steigy is even giving the Gary Roberts bracelets acknowledgment, even though he called them WWGD bracelets...

SUCH an amazing game though. It was awesome to watch Sabourin beat out Ward tonight :D

Big win tonight. The atmosphere at the Igloo was great. I have to say that I wasn't thrilled to hear about Sabourin in net but he played well...in fact, he bailed out the D on several occassions with some huge saves.

While there was a great crowd tonight, I got stuck w/ 4-5 drunk yinzers behind me that must have mistaken the arena for Heinz field. I mean I like to have a few drinks b4 pens games on occasion and yeah I might let an F-bomb slip when I'm super frustrated...but when did it become acceptable to yell Faggot as loud as possible for 3 hours? Late in the game one of these retards was yelling "do it for terry shiavo (sp?)" WTF? I can deal with the Mr. Know-It-Alls and the "SHOOOOOT!!!" people, but these guys really irked me.

but anyway, it was a fun game and I can't wait til tomorrow. I almost wish I was at home for the game so I could have heard about the Gary bracelet thing.

The Hebrew Hammer said...

I'm to the point where I watch most Penguin games on mute. Steiggy and Errey are unlistenable and the delay on radio drives me crazy. I might actually be looking forward to Joe fucking Beniatti calling the Rangers game Tuesday on Versus.

Mike said...

Congrats on getting the wristbands mentioned on the air! (Even though Stagie F’d it up)

Has anyone thought to send the big GR a wristband at Mellon Arena? (Forgive me if this has already been asked)

Anonymous said...

Oh, c'mon.
I call him "Scary Roberts". Only in my head, but still.

...Admit it, you do it too.

The Seeker said...

I saw Recchi leaving the arena tonight....

He was picked up by the Allegheny County Office on Aging van.

snoopyjode said...

anon, it was in fact steigy who first referred to roberts as "scary gary" - errey was merely repeating him.

incidently, it is right after this exchange that steigy mentions the wristbands. I'M SO GLAD I TAPED THE GAME FOR MY HUSBAND!!! :)

The Seeker said...

I love the guy and want to see him do great things, but do you think it's time yet to put out an Amber Alert for Jordan Staal?

Steimes said...

Grat game. I had to watch it on my DVR... but I missed over time and the shoot out goals :(

I saw Bing's on ESPN though... sick sick sick.

Booo to my dvr... boooo

Brett said...

I'm gonna somehow send a letter to the organization - get Christensen more ice time!!

and all 3 shootout goals on our side were sweeeet. And oh boy I hope Fleury doesn't take this outstanding performance by his backup to heart..

Matthew said...

Just got back to Cleveland after going to the game.

Way to make it on the Scoreboard with "WWGRD" even if it was brief. My sister (season ticket holder) now believes me that there is a Pensblog cult out there.

...and her brother is a part of it.

PittHockey said...

what a great game.

although we need to fix our defense / goaltending :\

Anonymous said...

staal may not have got a point tongiht but he was huge on the penalty kills and had a respectable game. In the third period everyone was on acid and going insane

The Seeker said...

Anon: I realize Staal's been doing some little things but for goodness sakes.... he's only got 1 point in 6 games and is a -6 in the plus/minus column. Compared to last year, he needs the Amber Alert.
