Ryan Whitney taunts Gary Roberts [ Post Gazette ]

When the Penguins were split into two groups for a training-camp drill last week, the side that came up short had to do pushups. Defenseman Ryan Whitney, who was in the group spared the exercises, skated slowly past those kissing the ice, chiding them.

"Come on, Gary Roberts," Whitney called out. "Twenty pushups is nothing for you."

At least I show up in the playoffs.

.....................................

You can pretty much close the book on Ottawa's Dean McAmmond.

First he gets concussed by Chris Pronger in the Cup Finals...

And then on Tuesday night...

Steve Downie, some Flyer who will be a Phantom his whole career,
delivers a blow to McAmmond's head. [ TSN ]

Usually we would job.
But no one likes seeing that stuff, even if it is a Senator.
Get McAmmond back on the ice. He's a beast.

Sens fan James Van Der Beek, your thoughts:

We only put this picture in here because this was on the first page
of Google image results for "gays crying."

LuongoBlogo

In a conference call Tuesday, Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo said he would retire if the league used bigger nets.

"If that day comes, I don't think you guys will be seeing me in the NHL," Luongo said. [ ESPN ]

Diagnosis: Luongo is a homo.

This brawl still befuddles us.
Why in the hell was Chris Simon even in the game? Isn't he suspended?
[ Battle of New York ]

And what was Yahoo box scores doing?
Why was every minor penalty being served by Alexei Ildngsgnfjgnjnahbflhg f

Playing the Islanders eight times this year is gonna be a mess.
And that's without Jason Blake gaying up our televisions.

What a joke organization.

Ryan Whitney truly showing the brass of a river boat gambler.

First Pensblog tries to job Gary Roberts PLUS a punk teammate 16 years younger tries to get in the action too in just a matter of days?

I think, unfortunately, Uncle Gary is about to send a gentle reminder on just who the HNIC is.

i'm the guy that posted about the tickets being reprinted for the game on saturday nite. apparently the girl's brother had the tickets e-mailed to her, making the originals worthless, which were the ones that were given to us. one of my other friends said that his grandpa did that one time when someone took his tickets. this would really be a good way to fuck over anybody buying scalped tickets. just a heads-up

Interesting... I was reading This Article and it looks like the new RBK jerseys are complete crap, not like it didn't look that way already with what Roberts said.

How did this whole sweat in the gloves thing not come to light before? RBK=pwned.

I think I'm just going to get an old-new style jersey if I can find one in Pittsburgh... though the new customized jerseys are only $169.99 if you don't get the full-on, badass on-ice version. Has anyone tried one of these on yet? Opinions?

I'm so glad that article about the jerseys came out, it makes me feel smart.

When I was first told about them the first thing I said was "what happens to the repelled moisture? it has to go somewhere."

now they know.

What concerns me about Downie is that he's dirtier than all hell, but he can actually play and he's capable of taking a regular shift. He's a fairly talented forward, but he's a headcase on and off the ice...he almost reminds me of a bigger version of Theo Fleury (for anyone who ever got to witness some of Fleury's meltdowns toward the end of his NHL career). He's got some self-control issues on the ice that cause him to take stupid penalties and completely negate the other things he brings to the ice.

He was still thought highly enough that he was a mainstay on two of Canada's World Junior Championship teams. But his OHL career was marred by altercations with coaches, problems both on and off the ice, and then the bizarre incident with Akim Aliuwhen the two were teammates in Windsor during the 05-06 season.

He's dirty enough and crazy enough that he would probably relish the chance to take a knee-to-knee cheapshot at someone like Crosby or Malkin. I don't know if he's good enough to make the Flyers club this year...it's tough to say with all the "upgrading" Philly did over the summer. But he's already managed to draw the ire of one NHL team with this crap last night and I'm sure it won't be the only one.

Wow...Roethlisberger looks an awful lot like Shrek in that pic.

Heard a hockey commercial on mainstream fm radio today. Goosebump city. I feel like a kid anticipating Christmas morning.

I was happy to see the Islanders lay a beating into those bitches from MSG. They are so overated in my opinion, all their fans seem to be doing is complaining about how dirty the Isles were.

Another solid post today. It's getting to the point... no it's not getting to the point, it is at the point where every morning the first place I go is PensBlog and the second place is James Mirtle. That says something.

For the record, suspensions aren't in effect in the preseason, so Chris Simon is eligible to play. Once the season starts, it's back to the press box for him.

about the new jerseys: i seem to remember sid being involved in the design and testing and actually talking about how great they were. why didn't sid complain then? did reebok just have him do light workouts in the jersey? or is it possible reebok just payed sid a shitload of money to keep his mouth shut?
im not suggesting the kid would do something like that, but how the hell did they not catch this problem earlier?

Whatever happened to Secretblog where Jeff Harr was supposed to help out the transplanted Pens fans? Is it NHL.tv or something better?

nathan, that may be the rule, but that's a stupid ass rule.

yeah, let's suspend a guy for 25 games (or whatever it was) for tomahawking a player in the face...

but the same two teams play in an preseason game where there's already jobbers running around left and right trying to make names for themselves (see Downie, Steve)? sure, let him play!

even hellen keller in her pens jersey can see that's a trainwreck coming from a mile away.

PS why's the header say "PENSUCK"? Is Pensblog under attack again from the lifeless hater?

i give up - i can't take it anymore... next thursday, i'm at the season opener for the Coyotes vs. St. Louis, with the $15 scalper special.

CARCILLO is like Downie, but fun.

also, composite/graphite/aluminium/adamantium sticks are for f3w3lz. get wood. get sher-wood.
