First things first,
Happy Fathers day to all the Dads at there.

If you really wanted to have kids, you are a better person that any of us.

A special shout out to our dads at Pensblog.

Chicago is making the playoffs next year.

....Face-off factor reports the Pens sign some AHL d-man..
D Ben Lovejoy (6'2", 212 lbs) from Dartmouth. Lovejoy started his college career at Boston College for one year and then transferred to play 3 years at Dartmouth. He was the leading scorer among defensemen for the Big Green with 7 goals and 16 assists.

Check this out going on over at
Apparently some guy found an article from a Russian Newspaper featuring an interview with Evgeni Malkin's dad.

If you are going to Russian websites trying to find stories about Evgeni Malkin, you can't be helped at this point.

Look who the Bruins might hire....

A Winter in the Sun
Game # 25
December 2, 2006
Apparently we played 45 straight games against the same teams.
Islanders Solid. PENS LOSE.

With five minutes left in the game, a glimmer of hope surfaced when Mark Recchi found a way to get it past Ricky DeePee...and all of a sudden, the fans were in it.
That feeling lasted for about two minutes.
Rob Scuderi is a hell of a defenseman, but his (I think it was him) terrible pass was intercepted by the Islanders, and they raced back 3-on-1. Scuderi was the "1". He made a key play to break up a sure goal, but the Pens couldn't get a hold of the puck. Mike Sillinger found it and went top-shelf.
This game runs the Pensblog's record to 1-3-1 this season.
We're going Tuesday, too, so don't expect a win.

  • ...And just when I started liking Ryan Whitney...
  • The Islanders are a solid team. Even without Alexei Yashin.
  • Heyyyyy....Penguins have gotten their act together and are finally showing replays on the JumboTron. It only took them 5 years.
  • Speaking of which, I don't know what to make of that one play where the puck was on the goa-line and there was a big skirmish.
  • Some guy had an Islanders Ziggy Palffy jersey on at the game.

Missed the game tonight but just like to point out the Pens awful record since their early 5-game win streak ended. 4-7-4 (4-11). That's gotta turn around ASAP

Looks like Wednesday nights will be my domain. I'll start digitizing some of my collection... I have 4gb on this hard drive and a ton of DVDs, I'm about to trade for the Pens 2000-2001 and 2006-2007 tapes so I'm sure I'll have some good clips soon.

Stanley Cup today
There are actually three Cups that exist: the original bowl and two duplicates. The original bowl purchased by Lord Stanley is currently displayed at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Ontario. A first duplicate was created in 1963 by Montreal silversmith Carl Petersen, and is the one currently awarded to the champions of the playoffs and used for promotions.[39] A second duplicate was created in 1993 by Montreal silversmith Louise St. Jacques to be used as a substitute in the Hockey Hall of Fame's display case when the playoff Cup is traveling.[43]

Currently, in order to have one's name inscribed on the Cup, a player must have played at least 41 games for the championship team during the regular season (provided the player remains with the team when they win the Cup) or at least played in one game of the Finals. However, the NHL will also permit other reasons on a case-by-case basis.[2]

The NHL had to add an extra rung to the Stanley Cup just to honor Gary Roberts when he won the Stanley Cup with the Calgary Flames in 1989. The player who has been on the most Stanley Cup championships is Henri "The Pocket Rocket" Richard, of the Montreal Canadiens, with 11. Two other Canadiens players, Jean BĂ©liveau and Yvan Cournoyer, are each on the Cup 10 times.[42]

Have any of you seen this?

The Hockey News poll.

To what city would you least like to be traded?
4) Pittsburgh Penguins (18) 7.2%

Pittsburgh Penguins at #4 with 7.2% of the vote? What the fuck?

More players would rather go to Nashville or St. Louis than Pittsburgh. St. Louis!?!?!

You don't want to play with one of the greatest players in NHL history? You don't want to win many, many Stanley Cups in the coming years?

Well go fuck yourselves, we'll have fun without you, 7.2% of the NHL!

Somehow this is Jake Wheatley's fault.

Kenny Melvin said...

You know what Barasso the thing with those polls are that they're usually voted on by the 4th line type players in the league. Those votes aren't calculated from the top guys or even the marginal guys. Who cares what they have to say? We know we're a great team and city and fuck whoever is against us!

Stanley P. Kachowski said...

The reason that other players do not want to be traded to Pittsburgh is that it would be easier for their wives to fornicate with Gary Roberts.

Note, I didn't say it doesn't happen anyway. It would just make it easier.

Absolutely fantastic news about Hull. He was tolerable at the beginning but at the end of the year was so fucking annoying. Time to get an american in that seat. Before you say i'm wrong, yes Hull was born in Canada. Once canadian, always canadian and that's a bad thing

dying alive said...

That hockey news poll was done before the arena situation was resolved. That could have something to do with the results. If not, screw those losers, we'll keep the team we've got.

Oh, and the Senators fired their GM Muckler. I guess they're promoting Sylvester to his job and hiring a new coach. Congratulations on making the Stanley Cup Finals, now go clean out your office. Nice.

Another great example of the fine apparel made available to female hockey fans. Let me just say there are butterflies involved.

rachel said...

Emdubs, wow... wtf do butterflies have to do with hockey or penguins?! First gay pink jerseys now this ugly crap. This is why female hockey fans get no respect.

lis said...

To thenick:

I feel somewhat ashamed to call Ulf Samuelsson my favorite player and at the same time admit that I completely forgot about his "best hit"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My God, that makes me crack up!!

snoopyjode said...

holy crap, emdubs, that hoodie is fantastic. wtf were they thinking?! unbelievable.

dying alive said...

That hoodie is unbelievable. It's not bad enough that it's got butterflies on it, it's also made of spandex. If only it were pink, it would be absolutely perfect.

I saw some girl wearing that to a game I'd advocate someone giving her a sound beating.

dying alive said...

"If" I saw someone wearing it. I have yet to witness the glory of that hoodie in person.

Spencemo said...

The only reason to purchase that hoodie would be to burn it in effigy. What a piece of shit.

snoopyjode said...

dying alive, if you DO see it, let me know - i volunteer to be the girl to deliver the beat down. HA!!! i truly cannot believe that anyone would buy it. but, then again, some chicks do buy those pepto jerseys... UGH!!!!!

Spencemo said...

snoopyjode, you know exactly what girl is going to be wearing that hoodie...she's the one that doesn't really like sports, but, tells the guy she likes that she does. So, to impress this guy, she'll go out and try to get the most 'cute' sports apparel that she can find, and only wears it in his presence.

Unfortunately for our poor following sheep, this guy will see right through her scheme and know that she's just a poser, because, real female fans go and buy real jerseys (replicas count, too, because the authentics are expensive as hell).

For this scam to work, the girl would have to be hotter than the surface of the sun. Then, I'm pretty sure the guy wouldn't care.

Spencemo said...

Oh, and not just real jerseys, but the straight merchandise. No flowers...lace...frills...or BUTTERFLIES!

It's just wrong.

Barrasso35 said...

That butterfly hoodie and the pink jerseys are for the "stick it in my five hole, Sid" crowd of "hockey fans." No self-respecting hockey fan would wear that shit.

I'm going to send that to my friend and see what clever way she finds to type the noises one makes while vomitting in her response e-mail.

snoopyjode said...

LOL!!! that's freakin' hilarious! i've got a real life story of one of those girls for you. at the game on 04-15-07, a girl walking in the mellon arena was rocking a glitter-covered pens logo painted on her face and she was wearing this t-shirt:

"Mike Lang for President"

all she would have had to do was go to the pens' (old) website ONCE to see the ad for the mike lange ringtones or even just fucking google him or search wikipedia or something!!! it would have taken 2 seconds! i wanted to just pop that fake right in her painted face, but i paid a lot of money for those tickets, and it was my husband's and my first ever opportunity to go to a playoff game.

that chick probably designed that revolting hoodie.

snoopyjode said...

HA HA HA! "stick it in my five hole, sid!!!" i had forgotten about the tramp with that sign! oh man, puck bunnies piss me off.

Barrasso35 said...

Anyone notice Jordan Staal is the Frozen Moment on right now?

Barrasso35 said...

Okay, I looked at the poll again and this makes me feel better.

Who is the most hated player in the NHL?
1) Sean Avery (168) 66.4%

Who is the most overrated player in the NHL?
1) Sean Avery (17) 8.5%

Mu-hu-ha-ha! Sean Avery is a joke.

EmDubs said...

Yeah, when I saw that hoodie yesterday I pretty much just stared at the screen for about 5 minutes in astonishment hoping I was just seeing butterflies, but it was actually something else.

Antonette said...

Damn, it's so hard sometimes to be a female sports fan. It's never fair, but most of the time, hockey's okay. Those damn puckbunnies ruin everything.

Speaking of buying jerseys- does anyone know a good place to get a relatively affordable custom jersey? I've been dying for a Talbot jersey, but the salary of a lifeguard doesn't really allow for 'em.

Spencemo said...

Can't help there. Me & the old man made customized, authentics for eachother our 5th anniversary presents...That was back in 2001, and they were about $300 a piece then. I don't know an affordable way to do it.

"Puck Bunnies"?! I hadn't heard that one before, but I freakin' love it!!!

snoopyjode said...

the cheapest way to get a talbot jersey might be to buy the practice jersey from they come in black or white and you can get whatever name you want to on it for $100. otherwise, plan on spending about $150 (for replica) to $300 for (authentic). i checked ebay and couldn't find anything. sometimes you can luck out and get a few steals there, but i could find no talbot sweater today.

Kenny Melvin said...

Look at what the Flyers just did
IMO even though these are two guys we were targeting, they're getting way overpaid from the Flyers. 4.2 mil for Hartnell? 6.3 mil for timmonen, that's more than Gonchar. both got long term deals so both were out of the grasp of us.

snoopyjode said...

shero & company are going to meet with goligoski tomorrow. can i get a "hell yeah" for a right handed defenseman?!

baffles me how anyone could hate talbot.

snoopyjode said...

it says a lot about avery that he got 168 votes and the next highest tally is 14. that loudmouth idiot probably likes being the biggest arse in the league, though. he's definitely got my vote here.

dying alive said...

I also hate the puck bunnies, they give the rest of us a bad name. And they're usually ugly.

Antonette, I'm hoping that once they make the new RBK jerseys available to the public the price of the old ones will go way down because they'll be on clearance. Not sure that it'll happen, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I don't understand how anybody could hate Max Talbot. The guy is awesome.

snoopyjode said...

that one vote for max was probably from dean mcammond! (although i think that's an old survey that was done prior to this game...)

Flyers acquire free-agent gems Hartnell,Timonen

PHILADELPHIA, AP -- The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Kimmo Timonen and forward Scott Hartnell from the Nashville Predators on Monday. They Flyers also hold the #2 pick in the NHL Draft this weekend and can now offically be called Pennsylvania's best hockey team. The Hershey Bears figure to be a close second.

The Predators get a first-round pick -- the same one they sent to the Flyers to acquire Peter Forsberg -- for Timonen and Hartnell. Both players have reportedly agreed to six-year contracts with Philadelphia. Timonen's deal is for $37.8 million and Hartnell's for $25.2 million.

Timonen had 13 goals, 42 assists and a plus-20 rating last season. The 32-year-old player will bolster a blue line that will surely dominate Cindy Crosby and Evangili Staal. The versatile Hartnell had 22 goals and 17 assists. He can play either wing, and will score on Marc-Andre Fleury like Lindsay Lohan scores Coke.

"Kimmo is a tremendous two-way defenseman," Crosby said. "He's smart and he plays around bigger guys. That wet spot on the floor is from me pissing my pants at the thought of seeing him bearing down on me"

The 25-year-old Hartnell was the sixth overall pick by Nashville in 2000. He has 93 goals and 118 assists in six seasons with the Predators.

"He's a hard-nosed kid. He moves good, he's aggressive and he's a tough player, and we are conceding the East to the Flyers" Malkin said.

2G 3A 10 shots +3

0G 1A 2 shots even

What are those?

Those are the combined box scores of Timonen+Hartnell vs. Sid+Geno+Staal from the 2/6/07 mtg when the Pens and their youngsters took a big dump all over the then-NHL-leading Nashville (tee hee) Predators.

Yes, I would have liked to see the Pens land Kimo or Scott. But if the Flyers are relying on these guys to slow the Pens down, think again.

But the Flyers should be better next year. For Christ's sake, they can't be much worse.
