Stunned

" It's so hard to say goodbye. "

Farewell to Dominic Moore.

Losing him today was like when the Apollo 13 astronauts jettisoned their lunar excursion module, Aquarius, prior to re-entry.
You did us extremely well, Dominic Moore. You will be missed.

We won't ask what Shero's rhyme or reason was for it, but it really doesn't matter.
We lost a good hockey player today.

.................................................................................

As rumored Monday night, Gary Roberts is now a Pittsburgh Penguin.
We gave up Noah Welch for him.

We also sent a fourth-round pick to Florida for defenseman Joel Kwiatkowski.
And sent a seventh-round pick to San Jose for minor-league goalie Nolan Schaefer.

And, of course, Dominic Moore to Minnesota for a third-round pick.

...........................................................

But the trade that has given the Pens and Ray Shero a new identity around the NHL is the one that brought Big Georges Laraque from Phoenix.

We give up Italian mafia member Daniel Carcillo and a third-round pick.
LetsGoPens.com people are, uh, were in love with that guy.
Probably a good conversation going on over there.

Georges Laraque breaks the Penguin color barrier.
We're too lazy and time-constrained to go looking for any ex-Penguins that were minorites.
Even if he isn't the first minority to play for the Pens, who cares?
Jackie Robinson was a sick ballplayer.

Jake Wheatley, your thoughts on the trade?

" Represent. Go Pens. Mellon Arena is great. "

.......................................................

If anyone argues with you that someone besides TSN.ca breaks NHL news first, punch them in the ovaries.

Pensblog friend Nick Godfrey knew TSN.ca existed before TSN did.

.......................................

Big NHL Trades
TSN Trade Deadline Page

Most important to Pens Nation:
Ryan Smyth dealt to the Islanders

...Sabres add Dainius Zubrus...
...D-man Aaron Ward to Boston...
...Red Wings get Bertuzzi...
...Mattias Norstrom goes to Dallas...
...Sharks get Billy Guerin...
...Philly gets money-in-the-bank goalie Martin Biron. Remember, he dominated for Buffalo before Ryan Miller took over...

.........................................................

Ray Shero was busier than a 9-year-old male prostitute at The Duquesne Club today.

With the brass of an online poker player, Shero's actions today have resulted in an overcrowded forwards section of the Penguin locker room.

In no particular order and no thought involved:

Recchi-Crosby-Malone
Staal-Malkin-Roberts
Ouellet-Christensen-Armstrong
Ruutu-Talbot-Laraque
Petrovicky-Thorburn-Ekman

You can't crap on Talbot.
Malone.....ehhhhh....maybe if he can tell us ahead of time when he's gonna score a hat trick, then we'll only dress him for those games.
People seem a little too in love with Colby Armstrong, but that is my opinion, and my opinion is shit most of the time.
Bump Christensen to fourth line?
Unreal. No one has any idea what's going on right now.

NOTE: We didn't read the comments in the previous post before posting this. What a great convo in there.

.............................................................

Betsy Ross, get your ass in gear.
You better have Roberts' and Laraque's jerseys sewn up by Thursday.

.............................................................

The smoke from this post has cleared...and a fact remains.
We traded away a face-off man today and didn't get one in return.
But Mike M. points out we basically traded Moore for Laraque. Good trade?

Moore - 51.6%
Crosby - 49.3%
Malkin - 45%
Talbot - 44%

-- Commenter Ellen dominates with face-off stats

Go Pens.
Big Game.
Thorburn getting some action tonight.

......I'm really gonna miss Moore....he didn't even cross my mind as a possible trade. But looking at it now, I can sorta see why Shero did what he did.

We got Laraque, though!!!! Can't wait to see him play and if he can produce as a Penguin.

As for Roberts and D-man Kwiatkowski, I'm just gonna have to wait and see what they do. One of the few things I know about Roberts is that he's a pain to play against and an asset when he's on your team.

Loser Chris,
Maybe Schaefer WILL be the next Moose....

Mike M,
Thanks for the explanation; it does make sense. So on their part, I guess it was a pretty smart decision.....poor Moore, though.

Loralei,
Your paragraph had me cracking up. Thanks for the laugh. :D

so when are we cutting melicar? soon i hope.

Orr vs Laraque on thursday. can't wait for that. hopefully Laraque beats on Avery some too.

No, he's African-AMERICAN. [the titles refer to
continents, not countries] [I'm pretty sure -
remember, I can't see]

more FYI.

steigy said they were OK with letting welch go because they didnt project welch as a top 4 D-man, and if he didnt make the team out of camp next year he would've had to clear waivers since he's out of options.

knowing that, i'll count the FLA trade as a win.

Shero is on crack. wtf

Actually............Laraque's
parents were Hatian immigrants.

None of the pens are going to know Laraque's 'status' either so they'll just take him to a bunch of Spanish restaurants and then in the end we'll find out he's white.

okay anonymous - you win this one.

Wow......I just saw Gary Roberts in the press conference. I'm so psyched to see him and Laraque on Thursday. Laraque seems a bit insane, but in a way reminds me of Talbot because of his personality. :) And Roberts seems a lot nicer than what I've read on the internet. The way he was answering questions and saying how excited he was to be in Pittsburgh...

Woooooo hooooooo!!!!!
Let's go Pens!!!

NJ is so fucking boring to watch. i should have went out with my friend instead of canceling it to watch the game.

Let me tell you how disappointed I am that you forgot about Jim Paek? Shame on you...

I know that you guys saw that little spin-o-rama that Mark Eaton pulled out to avoid a check in the first. It was a thing of beauty.

Ok. I kinda love Colby. I love his kamikaze-ness a la Bob Errey back in the day. He almost ended 2 careers this year and is aces with Max on the PK. (Especially as he just plowed into Brodeurs head..) Whats not to love?

OH and I dont hate Gary Roberts anymore. I was over it in about an hour. I've moved on. I'm now in utter shock that the Oilers gave up on Ryan Smith. That is just crazy to me.

moore is nothing. same with malone, armstrong, oullet, christensen, and ekman. i won't even notice moore is gone.

at least there's some toughness with malone and armstrong. christensen's been good in shootouts.

moore, oullet, ekman....nothing.

When i lived in pittsburgh my dad (working for national steel) got to golf with the '91 pens after the cup and got autographs for my brother and me. We put them in a nice black and gold frame and it's probably my favorite thing i have. Jim Paek's autograph has always been the one i notice most for some reason.(besides tom barrasso saying "to tom, best wishes")
My dad said he was the nicest guy there.

I'm probably his biggest fan.

Loralei, I hear Ryan Smyth couldn't reach a contract agreement with Edmonton so they dealt him. It's REALLY gonna suck playing the Islanders now, especially 3 times in two weeks or whatever it was a couple of months ago. As Snoopy would say, "Blech!"

Andrew said...

you got a barasso auto? he's a dick i've heard. he woln't sign for anyone now.

Moore was my favorite Penguin not named Tyler Wright.

Crap!!! We came sooo close to scoring so many times during this game. Martin "The Cheater" Brodeur couldn't even let ONE puck get past him. The whole team made quite an effort, though. Definitely a major improvement from the last game.

At least Fleury blocked 24 out of the 25 shots on goal. Plus Ruutu was being Ruutu in the first period--with that hard hit and trash talking after he went to the bench (with Errey in between). Then Army laid another huge hit on some bobo from the Devils and Talbot was once again "flopping around like a fish."

Well, looking forward to Thursday. Hopefully they can kick the crap out of the Rangers.

Let's go Pens!!

doesn't the league have regulations on how much padding a goalie is allowed to wear??? broduer looks like he's going to have a baby with all that padding!

Anonymous said...

I love Laraque. he's hilarious I can just imagine the hilarity when he and Max and Army get together.

That fight with Ivanans...classic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvIK-FLJgn4

I watched the whole trade centre thing on TSN today and I nearly fell off my chair when they said that Smyth was traded. that sucks for our pens.

Staff,
Quickly I just wanted to say that this line is hilarious:

"Ray Shero was busier than a 9-year-old male prostitute at The Duquesne Club today."

Hehehe..... :D
