What a big win tonight. In the third, we quickly talked about how devastating of a loss this would be after going punch for punch with the Rangers. But these are the 2006-07 Penguins...and these boys can put the vulcanized rubber in the net.

After a good, scoreless first period, the game took off in the second. Jordan Staal scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway to start the scoring frenzy. It seemingly took him 22.6 seconds to get to the net, but when he got there, he dominated. Jagr scored a minute later to tie it. (Who didn't know Jagr was gonna bury that?)
Matt Cullen scored an NHL99 goal on a semi-breakaway to make it 2-1 for the Rangers. Three minutes later, Kris Letang scored the Pens first powerplay goal of the season to tie it. The teams exchanged goals to end the second period with the game tied 3-3.

One minute into the third, another powerplay goal for the Pens, this time it was Ryan Whitney. Rangers tied it at 4, but then Armstrong and Whitney came down on a 2-on-1 and Whitney buried a one-timer. Rangers tied it again at five...setting the stage...

With a minute left, Jagr goes to the box for hooking. Overtime was already dancing in our heads as we watched the Pens powerplay set up and break down. We see Recchi on the half-boards with ten seconds left, playing with himself. 7 seconds...5 seconds...he passes it to Crosby who, Lemieuxly, just gets it to the net. It hits Aaron Ward's skate and goes in. Game.

A picture to savor

Miscellaneous
  • Unorthodox glove save by Fleury in the first period.
  • Ryan Whitney better stop turning the puck over. We counted 5 giveaways tonight.
  • Fleury should stop handling the puck behind the net.
  • Mark Eaton...incredible again...
Things We Learned Tonight
  • There's a new Toby Keith Ford commercial to hate. How we've longed for this day.
  • Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist, according to Bob Errey, covered a puck up in his crease like a frog...
  • Bob Errey was overly irate about the zamboni missing that patch of ice. He sounded like he wanted to rape a seal.
NEXT GAME
vs. Carolina Hurricanes - 7:30
Saturday, 10.14

Two things...

1) Kudos to you, sir. You turned 'Lemiuex' into an ADVERB. Well done.

2)Dan Potash is a tool.

Bonus thing...

B) The NHL 99 reference is spot on. I knew exactly what you were talking about. As always, very entertaining.

Love,
Gmiter
