Who woulda thunk it? Our Pens are 3-3 to start the season. Way better than last October. What's even better is that it looks to be impossible that the Penguins could have a 6 or 7-game losing streak this year that have become a staple in recent seasons. They look like a hockey team this year.

Thanks to GHOST OF RANDY CUNNEYWORTH in the comments for pointing this out: The Pens are 3-1 vs. the Atlantic Division this year. If we keep winning 3 out of 4 against the Atlantic, we'll be staring the playoffs in the face. Very encouraging.

...Segei Gonchar got NHL.com's #1 star last night...

...Sidney Crosby is ranked 6th in this edition of TSN.ca Center Rankings...

...It's hard not to enjoy the Flyers' woes this season...

...The Buffalo "Indianapolis Colts" Sabres take on Carolina tonight...striving for a 7-0 record...

...The other undefeated team, Minnesota, takes on Anaheim in a late game...

...Thanks to Mondesi's House for finding this gem: Maxim Online rates hockey's toughest bastards. No real cohesiveness to the entire list, but fight your way through the boobies and legs in the advertisements to check out who is #1. (You too, lady readers.)

...And, finally, Ryan Malone showed up last night in Uniondale, NY, deftly killing penalties by killing time in the offensive zone. Our first Ryan Malone sighting of the year.

I'm a North Allegheny guy myself...and thats why people won't let Malone go and he can get off easy with the fane b/c he's from USC.

I went to Canon-McMillan...and we despised USC and Mt. Lebanon like it was our job. That might be the part of me that has disdain for Malone, but probably not because he hasn't shown me enough to get a free ride every year.

Speaking of Malone, he was a hot name at the trade deadline last year (which is why that deadline sucked more than any that I can remember). Does anybody know what, if anything, Patrick was offered for him? I'm curious if the offers just weren't there or if Dave Littlefield was working for the Pens as a consultant.

I remember that trading deadline stuff last year, too. We unloaded Recchi...so I figured we could unload Malone too. But, to no avail.
Even if the Pens aren't in the hunt at the deadline this year, I hope Shero wheels and deals. Bring people in...instead of sending people away like Littlefield.
